I went into SFV intending to primarily use Nash, Cammy and Karin, and while I'm still set on learning Nash and Karin, I've found myself using Vega a lot in the past few hours. I'm pretty ass at Street Fighter (always been more of a Vs. Series/Marvel guy, to be honest) but having to manage between both Vega's claw and clawless stances, I've been learning a lot about footsies, space control, and especially baiting out moves. I still get my ass kicked a good bit on Ranked/Casual, but more often than not, it's a learning experience. For example, yesterday I was having trouble with Rashid, but I'm figuring out that just waiting his assaults out and punishing those dive kicks seem like a reliable way to get around his nonsense. That being said, there's three characters I just can't seem to get around for whatever reason, at least with Vega:
Necalli - I chalk this up to character unfamiliarity. I run into a bunch of Laura's, a few Rashids, and even a handful of F.A.N.G.'s now and again, but I've only ever run into Necalli maybe 4 or so times, and every time, I've been deolished so quickly, I don't even have time to process where I went wrong. Hopefully release day sees a bit more usage so I can actually get more familiar with playing against him.
Ryu - I know, I know. Figuring out how to get around Ryu's fundamentals is one of the most basic steps towards becoming a competent SF player. I can beat the scrubby ones for the most part; It's the hyper-aggressive, perfectly parrying ones I seem to have issues with. I probably need to use footsies and learn when to throw tech, though.
Chun-Li - I feel completely overwhelmed with the Chun Vs. Vega matchup. I try to mindgame with Flying Barcelona, get knocked out of the sky with her V-Skill, Try to footsie and godlike sweep reliably crush counters me. And god forbid I get rushed down, 'cause then I end up panicking and just shut down mentally.
All part of the learning experience, though! Currently recording my matches and viewing the to see where I've made mistakes and where I can improve.
