Street Fighter V |OT| No Options to Select

For a while now I've been meaning to recommend SF fans to check out Nostalgic Gamer's channel on Youtube, and I might as well do it here.

He's not often talked about but he's made some fantastic, in-depth retrospective videos over the years covering Street Fighter, Darkstalkers and other Capcom and non-Capcom fighting games (next to covering Rareware and other companies if you're into that as well). He even manages to often get info from people who worked on these games and for those companies in many cases, which is quite a feat on its own and truly increases the value of his videos I find.

Just the other day he uploaded a 50+ minute long video on the people behind the SF series. I've yet to watch this one myself but going by his usual quality, it should be thorough and a great watch (for instance while you wait for a match to be found in SFV).

One small warning: he does have a somewhat monotone style of narration that honestly never bothered me but might bother those looking for a very energetic and hyped host instead of a more documentary style narrator.

Enjoy!

Nice win streak bro. It'd be a shame if anything happened to it.

Unrelated: I kind of figured Rashid would be more popular than he is. Cool looking enough, very mobile, seems to have lots of shenanigans.

Thing is that a lot of his shenanigans are still kinda predictable.

Now El Fuerte though...

Will give it a watch later, thanks !

People are right to complain about the character number : 16 is still too much for me to find a main >.< There is not a single uninteresting character in that game.

No wonder the cops are there. They must think he's high as shit.

Actually Dhalsim is
teaching that policeman the principles of Yoga. The policemen is trying to blow flame out of his mouth (and failing)

You could try to narrow it down by picking characters that fit categories you enjoy. Like do you enjoy defensive/offensive characters? Is high mobility a factor? Do you want a character that keeps their distance or keeps going in?

I like my story better. The benefit of hitting the start button between fights and only getting the first scene and making your own story.

I had no idea Birdie was Karins creepy uncle.

Or that Karin is Ken's long lost cousin.

or that Birdie really likes food....
oh wait

Went into survival turned on fight request...played for a bit and racked up an 8 or 9 win streak. Had to take care of something so I exited to the main screen. When I get back I see that I lost a match since apparently fight request stays on...god damnit capcom get your shit together. ..and while your at it let me have my character select screen back please.

I think blocking is my best feat atm so a defensive char sounds about right, no charge character, easy execution of specials.

Hmmmm ... It ain't Laura at least!

Any suggestions besides Ryu or Ken? (I have their moves in the back of my head since the 90s but I'd rather sell the game than to main one of them lol)

Wake up, already thinking about SFV. My F.A.N.G. had a tough time of it last night against my friend. We did Battle Lounge and I went 3-7. Close matches here and there but some ugly blowouts, too. Had a hard time dealing with lack of priority, especially when he used Necalli. Ah, well, will stick with the freak for now.

Laura is more offensive.

Have you tried Dhalsim? also try Birdie as he can be played more defensive and reactionary as well as offensive. Birdie only has the one "difficult" move which requires you to hold down a punch button for a second or two. But you can get by with not really using it that much.

Were you sarcastic?
I like that the Fight Request stays on, you can always make it asks for a confirmation.
It's in the options somewhere

I'd love to master Sim but his flow is so different than what I'm used to...

I used Rose in SFIV and felt I could hold my own with her, but so far no char has really clicked with me in V.

I'll give Birdie a shot tonight!

I'm always being caught in surprise by some Critical Arts / V-Trigger and I didn't know why.
Then I started to think about it and I understood that the C.A and V-Trigger bars are in my peripheral vision:

Sorry my poor editing skills ;-)

Then I started to analyze fighting games UI and I've realized that the inferior part of SFV UI doesn't have sounds (like the revenge bar), or change color (like SFZ2, for example).

I know that I can change this, but I'm curious to see if anyone felt this way. I never changed UI position in my life, but I will do this tonight.

Edit: it seems that makes a sound, but I never noticed it. Still, some better visual cues would be great!

Thing is, you need to change up your playstyle depending on the matchup.

Necalli will always try to get in your face and he doesn't even need to leave the ground to do it so just throw out your trap once in a while and take advantage of your command dash.

AND MAKE HIM TAKE THE POISON.

You make a good point actually. I often don't notice that my V-trigger bar is full. Some (better) sound indication could be helpful, like you said.

You're both right, I've actually had to condition myself to glance over at the V-Trigger/CA bars to gauge how much I and my opponent have. Rarely had to do that in SFIV.
Does anyone know if you still get the Chun Li alternate costume if you buy on PSN without preordering? Thanks.

Sadly, no you can't. The only way to get it now is to wait until the in-game store is patched in sometime in March. They'll most likely have all the pre-order costumes available for purchase/unlocking by then. Maybe a bit later.

I've been maining Ryu since forever, no other character, just Ryu, over and over. Decided to try Gief out in V, never really played grapplers and yet I've been grinding fools into the dirt over and over with the big Russian. I can count the number of matches I've lost with him on 2 fingers. So fun to play and suits my slow, methodical play style nicely. The satisfaction pulling a projectile character in with V-Trigger lariat and then jumping up to slam them back down for the V with an air spinning piledriver, is immense. Or just EX running bear grab through their buttons. Oh and flexing through Rashid's whirlwind, that never gets old.

Today I managed to climb to 600 LP after falling to 280 LP from 480 LP.
Judging by the results I can probably keep climbing higher as well.
That's honestly better than I expected.

actually it does chime when v trigger and CAs become available. You just have to know the sound. Obviously in sf4 the music changes when max ultra was obtained, but it also chimed when it becomes initially available as well.

Daaamn. Nice! How am I much higher rank than you when you have way more LP? And I think Rashid's damage output might just be too low for some people? That and he's kind of hard to get a handle on.

Just broke the streak of a higher ranked Vega mirror and got the trophy for beating people better than you. Feels good!

I actually always played SF4 with the "arcade UI" setting. It pushes the bars closer to the corner of the screen, about where they are in SF5. The default "console UI" settings were pushed in closer in order to get around the then-current "TV safe area" standards and keep things from being cut off by overscan.

Also, there is a sound effect that plays every time you build a bar of V-meter.

Ranking is busted right now. Hasn't updated in hours.

Went on a 8 fight streak lol

Please continue sucking more than my sucky shoto players :(

Lost in the most pathetic way against a ryu that swept me 8 times in a row

Will finally have time to practice in a few hours. Gonna see if I can pull off the v-reversal. It seems kind of hard with a Dual Shock 4. And then I need to be able to constantly pull off Tragedy Assault.

But do you guys know Nash's two other counter crushes? I need them to mix up my game, so that I don't do Tragedy Assault all the time. What are those two?

Hard punch and forward hard punch?
