And what's with people playing Ken in this game? They keep spamming the same move over and over. SO FRUSTRATING. I just bait 'em now.

A good Ken is fun to watch in V. Was watching some streams the last few days and some of those V-trigger combos are nuts.

Very few of those actually exist online.

Just completed 30 survival with Karin, ending with a near perfect KO on Bison. Laura is really fun, but Karin feels more... I dunno... functional? Her moves flow nicely and I can use simple combos and change ups to keep up pressure. Plus you can combo into her V Trigger really easily.

An avatar change might be in order.

I had a ken who managed to turn the tables on me by getting some quick cheap hits in, and the health spread was 60% him-20% me. He thought the match was his, but then I hit him with Rashid's "Strong Kick->V Trigger->Critical Art" for the majority of his health. He actually just stood there puzzled for a second after, so I landed a quick soaring eagle to finish him. Best match ever.

Tip for Survival : Keep the match search on and on manual accept. If you're getting beat in survival and you get a match, you can accept the match and get yourself out. When you come back the match will reset.

And you can always pass if you're doing good.

Floating around 2300 with Karin right now. Feeling good about most things, but I absolutely hate fighting Necalli's. It feels like every button crush counters and does way too much damage. Why his best AA is also a crush counter is a mystery to me.

Well, was fun messing around. Was doing fine against most Rookies then suddenly Bronze guys nonstop with lots of wins and I got my ass handed to me. Went from 260 LP back down to 33 LP lol

As a Ken player in V I hate doing Shoryukens. I just can't risk it compared to other games. The only times I do them are for anti-airs but man, the move is so bad. His Hadokens mean more to my strategy than the Shoryken these days.

Man, I just wonder how Akuma's going to be in this game.

Apparently an Angry Joe SFV rant video is coming out according to his twitter, Holy moly !!! brace yourselves for the salt and hate fellas. We are in for another ride!!!!

We knew this was coming from his rant on it being console exclusive. What I hope he doesn't do is waste time complaining about folks that don't care as much about the missing features and disagree with him and just keep it focused on sony and Capcom.

Let me tell you a story. I play Necali and I get around 330 meterless for punishing a DP. Today I fought a Ken. Ken decided to DP the first time I pressured him, and I punished him for 1/3 of his life. He then proceeds to wake up and DP again. I got to drain his entire life bar both rounds by just doing this punish.

Then I proceeded to meet a clone of that Ken player about every 15 minutes and it happens again. People are bad learners.

Yeh, I started using an empty jump and letting the standing fierce(?) whiff

Finally caught up with the thread again - which by the way is still moving FAST. Plenty of disconnect issues still I see, meaning I won't even dare to continue to play the story modes out of fear of losing my FM for one of the last ones and never being able to get it back...

Some reactions to slightly older posts incoming:

Kind of a loaded question to ask here, but I avoid playing fighting games online because I get destroyed, but I really really like Capcom fighters. I'm still not 100% sure what they're adding to the game for free and what's going to be dlc. Any decent single player stuff?

You sir/madam, are a paradox in the flesh - at least according to the many people that started defending the lack of single player content with "I never liked fighting the CPU anyway." In me, you'll find a friend and fellow (mostly) online avoiding Capcom fighter fan though! Apparently we must have patience to get our good stuff these days...

...They STILL didn't fix the goddamn megaboobie glitch on 2P side in the game?!
Are you kidding me

No they have not. If you look closely (using Eurogamer's analysis video for instance, even if they don't pick up on the following themselves) you'll notice that some other females like R.Mika also have slightly more jiggling going on on P2's side still, even if it is far less obvious to Chun's bouncing water balloons. Kidding about "it's a feature!" aside, I really hope they'll fix this along with the hair (etc) clipping through bodies (like Ken's hair, also only on the P2 side) as both significantly diminish the game's overall polish imo.

Managed to finally have a go of this game ... in an arcade.

Heart of Gaming Arcade in London has 4 dedicated 2 player converted arcade machines running this, think there is a tounament this weekend.
/Snip

Cool, I might check this arcade out if I have the chance. Honest question though: what did the screens display when nobody was playing? I mean, the game has no attract mode or intro movie so they'd be stuck on the main menu, which does not make for a very interesting cabinet to look at. Also, this might be the first fighting game in an arcade without an Arcade mode! (Add that in Capcom; no "we might add that", no, just DO It!)

Can't wait for HRAP4 to arrive. Will set up a spot and play more seriously. Gonna also need to practice more with other characters. Was just fucking around with Ryu for old time's sake but he's too predictable these days.

I feel like compared to other characters Mika has to work way harder for her damage unless she gets them in the corner. Her footsies buttons are not scary.

I agree with this. Her medium kick is a very good poke but she has a hard time getting in against projectile characters. Her drop kick charged is a good option but you need to time it. Her command grab isn't that great either, imo. Been having so much trouble against half the cast with her.

I used to feel like this until I did some reading and experimenting and now I feel her pokes aren't too bad, but dear sweet heck is fighting Zangief a struggle. All his normals beat hers and you can't really go in on a good gief because they live for the SPD, so it just turns into a really long slog fest of you prodding at him and hoping to heck he doesn't press a button that beats what you're up to :P

some general tips though: Crouching light kick has a fairly surprising range and comes out pretty quick, at certain distances you can even do light kick into standing jab into jab peach-shooter :3 While not a combo I've seen some people do light crouching kick -> medium crouching kick -> command grab, which is an entertaining bit of cheek XD

Jab is her fastest attack and stuffs out a lot of things you wouldn't expect, plus you can do jab -> jab -> jab peach-shooter.

Medium punch (not holding forward), while not on the same scale as her medium kick, still has some decent reach and is a lot safer, plus it combos great, going right into forward medium punch for the passion press if you're close enough, while if you're further away you can either do medium punch -> medium punch -> medium peach-shooter, or even medium punch -> fierce punch -> fierce peach-shooter :D

A fully charged roundhouse should be terror incarnate for pretty anyone as you have the advantage on block, so you can mix them up by either doing light kick into combo if it connects or command grabs. Just don't miss with it completely or you might be in trouble :s

Seeing as this somewhat relates to fireballs, if someone is getting projectile happy it's actually surprisingly easy to just slide kick under them (I have a lot of practice at this from my ibuki days admittedly :3 ) and if they're daft enough to do it too close, EX peach shooter is armoured and has much more step-forward than most people realise. I've clotheslined several kens right through their fireball this way :P

It's REALLY worth knowing that rainbow typhoon (half circle back, punch) has a much, much better reach and damage than brimstone (half circle back, kick), especially the EX version. Had one local player going "what the heck is the range on that???"

If you get a chance to breathe, it's always worth just doing an instant mic drop if you can as just activating the v-skill without even charging it still grants a damage bonus to all of your throws.

Not sure how much of this is stuff you already know, but I figured i'd drop it here in case it helped anyone else :3

I didn't know angry Joe was still alive, much less that people still watch his videos.

Somehow, I don't think that's gonna happen.

This game is an emotional rollercoaster. I got to a point to where all of a sudden I was getting it handed to me and I unconsciously started playing more conservative and getting worse results. People started seeing my fear and just rushed me as I jabbed in the corner. This was last night.

Today I decided that I need to find a safe way to get in and do heavy damage when I do. I needed to stop playing this game like it's Street Fighter II. I found one sure fire way inside and learned some more combos. Once I used my one way in and put them on their back, it usually opens up a couple other ways in.

Now I can be a little more aggressive and confident in what I'm doing, until I hit the next plateau.

Also, put the training dummy on level 8, make everything "normal" except health and just spar, spar, spar. Try to find ways to get in close or zone or whatever your character is built for.

That's all the advise I halfway feel I'm authorized to give right now.

Man I've done normal survival with 8 characters and I just don't know if I have it in me to do it 8 more times. This shit is a snooze fest unless I'm going for a high score.

I think I'm doing hard and hell with only one or two characters. And I'm waiting until they stabilize the servers. Already made it to 43 once just to get booted.

Yea, I need to just focus on one character and learn them well. I'm edging towards Mika and possibly Karin. Might try Cammy and Laura again. Once I can do their moves at a more consistent rate, it should be less of a spanking online. Some of the losses were from execution errors.

Angry Joe is fine. I enjoy his stuff. He'll probably complain about some of the same stuff we mentioned here.

It will be interesting to see where he goes with it...

I imagine what we are going to get his him ranting about the servers being down, the lack of single player content, and Capcom rushing the game.

However, he could also go the route of a pure moron and parrot that nonsense about new characters costing two thousand wins online. He may also choose to neglect to mention that the online is working substantially better now.

*shrug*

We will see... It certainly wouldn't surprise me if he tackled it like a sleaze bag and was super misleading.

Try playing them like training mode. Practice combos, figure out setups, investigate what is punishable... That stuff...

That is what I do and it is a perfectly good time.

Holy shit guys, this exists.

First match online - first victory but Vega couldn't handle it and dropped before LP were credited *sigh* - Welcome to Street Fighter V !!

Took revenge on few Kens with Laura if this can make some fellows feel better ...

After playing Story mode, I appreciate the English VO way more. They're all great. Birdie's VO is amazing. But everyone was great. Makes me excited for the real story mode and all the characters we saw as cameos.
