Would like just the headset, for that amount of money I will most definitely pass. I am not into this motion control stuff, nor room tracking.

If there is no headset only version, I may as well just go with Oculus.

It is a factual statement.

You don't seem to know what a fact is, because whether they are comparable is completely subjective.

All three headsets have had people raving after their hands-on experiences. I obviously don't expect PSVR to be technologically on par.
But comparable in terms of the core VR experience? I'd say they are very comparable, and many people who've tried the latest headsets have mentioned them being as such.

That's only for games with room tracking made in mind. You can still play games seated.

This already includes controllers and trackers.. The oculus motion controller is sold separately and it will make it cost much close to the Vive.

Awsome, price can be overcome eventually so that isn't that bad of an issue.

Just as I already have VR controllers that already work with my PC, I already have a PS4 camera. I'm not the only one. They better have a SKU that's just the headset.
I meant I yield in the way that you can buy a PS VR headset and then not have your DS4 be a VR controller because you don't have a camera which makes the PS VR headset work in the first place.

I also congratulated you on finding a way to not have the PS VR headset work just to prove that the DS4 can also not be a VR controller. Why it would matter if you're not using VR because you lack the camera I don't know but yay.

Oh of course. I was judging solely on specifications. In terms of experience, that is up in the air.

what are people expecting? it's new technology and will probably take about 3-4 revisions to get it just right. that's when you buy it. only enthusiasts will buy this until then. the price will come down in a couple years.

PSVR is comparable to Rift and Vive.

All have same methods, some might have advanced tracking or better screen but I don't see any much lesser on each other.

The tested guys consistently point out that comparisons of PSVR to Oculus or Vive is Apples to Oranges due to their differences. They even go as far as calling it a bit of a "disappointment" when seeing Morpheus after the Oculus CV1.

I was expecting 850, so this is good. Of course, it's going to be like.. 1000+ Canadian. I think people being upset over the price is a complete lack of understanding of what is required to get this to work. Same people complain about console graphics when they're paying $350.

I think I will stick with my Rift preorder. I simply don't have the space for room scale VR. Though the price for the Vive is better than I was expecting and it has at least made me think things over. It's a competitive price for the enthusiast market that is willing to spend the money right now.

ITT: People who think Sony will somehow release a VR experience that will be cheaper but still comparable to the Rift or Vive. You will pay less, but you'll also get less.

Not almost-three-times-less (if rumors are to be believed) less. It's a 25% difference in resolution.

Considering PC has no licensing to recoup loss of hardware, these prices are going to be high. And sadly making it enthusiast market only.

Save VR Sony by pushing the mainstream of affordability. They did comment saying they were not expected to make money on the units, but the software approach like they used to in the past with console hardware.

$400 is max, but I sense $300 after all of this. Then thousands of PC gamers will rush out and try and mod the hell out of that headset for PC use. Sony is also doing an official remote play app for the PS4 on the PC as well.

I find it funny we are STILL saying this. It was like this with the dev kits, always hearing the choruses of 'wait for the consumer version!, it'll be cheaper and better.' and then we get here and its still the same thing.

600 for the Rift doesn't sound so bad now

IMO it's a very nice price for VR sims, etc. unless you're super hyped for the few room scale games there will be in H1 2016.

After that we'll have Touch too and the playground will be more even.

As happens with Oculus, this price, plus the one of the other device that will run the games makes it too expensive to have a decently big enough niche market.

Obviously VR headsets wouldn't be mainstream since day one, but need a certain amount of early adopters to justify the devs to bet in VR, and to justify the investment in future hardware revisions for Facebook and HTC.

PS4 already has a fair enough amount of installed consoles, its cost is way cheaper than a VR ready PC for new users. If PSVR is priced under $450-$500 (AND 450€-500€, since EMEA/PAL is the biggest PS market), it would be the only VR platform that may reach a decent and healthy amount of sales to provide a decent amount from profesional developers and potential profitable hardware in the long run.

Now looking like you may be able to buy a PSVR+PS4 bundle for less than just a Vive headset.

Well this definitely sheds the spotlight now on Sony. No reason to keep their price a secret for much longer....

I think it will be a long while before Sony will announce anything. They have even delayed the PSVR launch now.

But it is indeed cheaper and better than the dev kits. In fact, much better than before, especially with the new Chaperon system.

Are all of the gifs laughing at the price, or at the people who expected this to cost less than $600?

Hopefully prices come down once there is more software and the kinks are worked out and VR becomes ready for the mainstream.

Said it before and will say it again, PSVR price thread will be lots of fun, simply because there will be heated debate no matter what the price will be. If it's "low" in comparison to the other 2, a lot of people will make fun of other devices saying things like "it's over", the PC enthusiasts will counter saying it's a weak device in comparison. And if the price is high and competitive with the other 2 the revolt will be huge and a lot of people will be called out for saying before how Sony "won the VR war".

Can't wait to lurk for it and not participate at all =)

This is cheaper than I expected, I have my Oculus Rift preorder shipment for end of march and have been excited for it but this seems to give the full experience, I just don't know if I can put down another $200. I think I'll stick with the Oculus and hope there's not too many amazing room scale experiences I'll be missing out on. I also hope Oculus Touch can get close to the Vive experience and comes out at under $200.

I feel like this is exactly what most people were expecting, if not ~$100 cheaper.

Are all of the gifs laughing at the price, or at the people who expected this to cost less than $600?

I think there's a lot of people that really expected these to come out at a mass market price, and think it will flop if it doesn't sell in the millions of units right away.

This is very much buying a hdtv in 1998, or an atari 2600 in 1977.

Delayed?

I did not know there was a date. Hell, there has not even been an official announcement of the retail hardware.

'Delayed' is an abused word now in gaming.

Well, they did say first half of 2016. It's almost March, and we haven't got a single word on price and SKUs. People are rightly starting to suspect the final details will be revealed at E3, with a Fall launch.

You've been listening to the wrong people. Not everything you hear on the internet is true. The sensible people have been saying that the consumer version is better, and they were right. The only people talking about them being cheaper were talking out of their buttocks, and that stinks.

It was originally scheduled to launch before the first half of the year. Gamestop just recently said that they are shipping it in Fall.

Do you have a source? Because they have yet to even unveil the price and structure yet, let alone a date. First half I could have sworn was speculation for the announcement of all of that. E3 would technically be in the 'first half'.

Oh of course. I was judging solely on specifications. In terms of experience, that is up in the air.

Even in terms of specs they are entirely comparable. PSVR has a slightly lower res screen (960x1080 per eye vs 1200x1080 per eye), higher refresh rate (90/120Hz vs 90Hz), similar binaural audio as OR, 240Hz positional tracking via PlayStation camera, better standard controller than OR, worse standard controller than Vive.

Well, I have tried most of them at the expos, but some are might be old models like CV1 and old Vive. And IMO all are very comparable VRs.
Nothing felt big different on movement around, only I could remember the visual are little different to each other. Like CV1 seem more blurry on the edge, other might have smaller FOV etc.

So none of them are very shit, and all are very comparable.

They said and reiterated many times that it was going to be released first half of 2016, and if the Gamestop guy is to be believed they will release it in the Fall, so that would clearly constitute a delay to me.

I think you meant to say more accessible and more compatible, and much cheaper.

Cheaper yes because of inferior hardware (made only worse by the PS4 itself). More compatible no unless they announce PC-compatiblity. More accessible no for now. Or how can I get access to PSVR in April? ;)

at this price its more than a months rent for my flat if we had known the price much further ahead of time i could have saved up for it :/ I might get one eventually, but it looks like i will miss the launch shipment.

Gamestop didn't actually say it officially, it was their CEO during an interview and to be honest, he doesn't really care that much about PSVR like to have the exact release on his head, of course by not knowing the exact release date, he couldn't have said May or June. He wasn't sure so he took a 'secure' timeframe to talk about it and that's why he used the Fall.

In other news, the "first half of 2016" is not over yet.
March, April, May, and June are still ahead.
Sony can delay it, yes they can, but at least for now, it's on schedule.

Competitively priced with Oculus Rift.

Vive $800

Comes with: Headset, 2 VR Controllers, 2 Tracker Base Station

Rift $600

Comes with: Headset, Audio, 1 Tracker Base Station, No VR Controller

When you add those to Rift, the price match evenly.
