Why would you get this over Oculus Rift?
If you want room scale tracking and motion controllers on day 1.

A PS4 is closer in power to a PC than a Samsung Galaxy S6.
It is a factual statement.
That's only for games with room tracking made in mind. You can still play games seated.
This already includes controllers and trackers.. The oculus motion controller is sold separately and it will make it cost much close to the Vive.
I meant I yield in the way that you can buy a PS VR headset and then not have your DS4 be a VR controller because you don't have a camera which makes the PS VR headset work in the first place.Just as I already have VR controllers that already work with my PC, I already have a PS4 camera. I'm not the only one. They better have a SKU that's just the headset.
You don't seem to know what a fact is, because whether they are comparable is completely subjective.
All three headsets have had people raving after their hands-on experiences. I obviously don't expect PSVR to be technologically on par.
But comparable in terms of the core VR experience? I'd say they are very comparable, and many people who've tried the latest headsets have mentioned them being as such.
PSVR is comparable to Rift and Vive.
All have same methods, some might have advanced tracking or better screen but I don't see any much lesser on each other.
Except it actually will have a VR controller compared to the Rift.
ITT: People who think Sony will somehow release a VR experience that will be cheaper but still comparable to the Rift or Vive. You will pay less, but you'll also get less.
what are people expecting? it's new technology and will probably take about 3-4 revisions to get it just right. that's when you buy it. only enthusiasts will buy this until then. the price will come down in a couple years.
600 for the Rift doesn't sound so bad now
As happens with Oculus, this price, plus the one of the other device that will run the games makes it too expensive to have a decently big enough niche market.
Obviously VR headsets wouldn't be mainstream since day one, but need a certain amount of early adopters to justify the devs to bet in VR, and to justify the investment in future hardware revisions for Facebook and HTC.
PS4 already has a fair enough amount of installed consoles, its cost is way cheaper than a VR ready PC for new users. If PSVR is priced under $450-$500 (AND 450-500, since EMEA/PAL is the biggest PS market), it would be the only VR platform that may reach a decent and healthy amount of sales to provide a decent amount from profesional developers and potential profitable hardware in the long run.
Well this definitely sheds the spotlight now on Sony. No reason to keep their price a secret for much longer....
I find it funny we are STILL saying this. It was like this with the dev kits, always hearing the choruses of 'wait for the consumer version!, it'll be cheaper and better.' and then we get here and its still the same thing.
Are all of the gifs laughing at the price, or at the people who expected this to cost less than $600?
I think it will be a long while before Sony will announce anything. They have even delayed the PSVR launch now.
I feel like $800 plus a $1500 PC is a bit hard to swallow for some fancy tech demos.
Delayed?
I did not know there was a date. Hell, there has not even been an official announcement of the retail hardware.
'Delayed' is an abused word now in gaming.

Well, they did say first half of 2016. It's almost March, and we haven't got a single word on price and SKUs. People are rightly starting to suspect the final details will be revealed at E3, with a Fall launch.
It was originally scheduled to launch before the first half of the year. Gamestop just recently said that they are shipping it in Fall.
Oh of course. I was judging solely on specifications. In terms of experience, that is up in the air.
The tested guys consistently point out that comparisons of PSVR to Oculus or Vive is Apples to Oranges due to their differences. They even go as far as calling it a bit of a "disappointment" when seeing Morpheus after the Oculus CV1.

I think you meant to say more accessible and more compatible, and much cheaper.
They said and reiterated many times that it was going to be released first half of 2016, and if the Gamestop guy is to be believed they will release it in the Fall, so that would clearly constitute a delay to me.
