Last night was great for me, I went on a 10 game win streak and no one rage quitted on me. I was kind of surprised honestly.
You get 2 characters worth of Fight Money very easily. There is also a trophy/achievement for getting 1 million Fight Money which is equivalent of 10 DLC characters. However getting that amount as of now is a grind but after March update it might be relatively easy to get that amount if you just keep playing.
No... It makes sense now.
Karin is definitely the man in that relationship...

How do you unlock story mode alt costumes?
Have they chucked that shit behind fight money? If so kinda glad the sales reports so far are shitty. Look at MK ffs.

For whatever reason, I never got EXP for beating survival with Bridie. Every other character but just not him. Got his color though, weird. Hope that gets fixed.

In the story mode Birdie is definitely her slave lol. So pathetic and always hungry.

How it works:
You earn Fight Money in-game via online matches, Survival, or the Character Stories. Character Stories should give you roughly 100k in Fight Money when you complete all of them which is enough to earn one DLC character for free. They are planning to add more ways to earn FM in March with Daily Challenges and the Trials, the former of which is said to be simple tasks like "Perform Hadouken five times" so presumably they wouldn't have to be done in an online match.
However
If you also play Survival on Easy and Normal with all characters (each character, when you beat survival, gives you a ton of FM) this number can go up to something like 256k or close to 260k in FM -- enough to earn two DLC characters.
This number can then increase even further if you try to beat Survival on every difficulty with all the characters (Easy, Normal, Hard, and Hell). Further increasing the earnable FM.
This is all excluding character level ups which for each level you get 1k FM. So, if you level up Ryu to 15, that's 15k FM just from one character. And leveling them up can be done just by playing them -- doesn't matter if it's the Character Stories, Survival, or online matches.
So you can definitely earn half if not more than half of the DLC characters for free just by playing the game. Some people have posted in here that from playing and completing a few Survivals on Hell (also including FM accumulated from other difficulties and character stories) has pushed them up to 900k in Fight Money.
There's separate currency you can buy with real money called Zenni (or is it with a y?) This cannot be earned in-game and is separate from FM. You can either buy Zenni to then buy premium costumes or DLC characters or you can just outright buy the DLC characters with your actual money.
In addition, there are character costumes in the game you can only get with Fight Money and they are the story alternate costumes. These costumes cost 40k FM each so if you really only want characters and don't care about costumes you can ignore them otherwise keep that in mind if you want to find some balance between getting a costume you want and the characters that get released in the future. (But do note these costumes aren't available until the Shop opens in March).
Note: I do not have the game yet so some of my numbers may be inaccurate this is just based on what I have read. Someone who has the game can feel free to correct me.

You beat the story mode and that unlocks the ability to buy the costume in the Shop with FM when it opens in March. I really want R. Mika's alt now!

Use whatever you're comfortable with. SFV is pretty easy to play on a controller, though I prefer a fightstick.
Challenge mode is going to be implemented some time in March iirc. For now, you're best bet is to look for character specific videos that'll get you started on bread and butter combos. Who are you interested in picking up?
I want this, too. Would be nice if there was an Android/iOS app where you could look up your match history and stats. Speaking of which, are the stats re: hit/block%, etc showing up for everyone? Trying to figure out why it's not showing for me.

Woah .. Just finished a FT10 with a person who joined my lobby ('BenjiReiji'), their Ryu vs my Necalli. And it was damn close! The biggest difference at any point was a mere 2 wins, I think, and we ended up fighting to the very last match (the score being 9/9), ending with BenjiReiji taking the win in the third round and closing the set. The only problem is that since they were on PSN, and I am on Steam, I can't send a more personal thanks for an amazing set than the built in stuff that Capcom provided

Ok guys, I need pointers. I played two online matches earlier with Laura (trying to make her my main, I do enjoy her moveset) but when I go online I just get pummeled. I will include a youtube video I made today of it, I win the first fight quite easily but the 2nd I get decimated. Like totally torn apart. I know I am too aggressive, but I don't think that's the soul reason why I got beat so badly. Any and all feedback welcome!

I really like FANG too. I'm liking the newcomers more than anyone else at the moment.
Didnt lariat beat crossups in SF4? I havent played Gief in that in ages. I couldnt punish crossups earlier with it (in 5 that is). Cant believe I wasnt blocking crossups, see what I mean by I think Im actually regressing? :/

Learned a crazy R Mika reset last night and now I'm very ready for more ranked matches until silver ranking. Looks like I have been sleeping on the character. She has much more potential than I thought.

I've been saying that for years. A Capcom 2D beat 'em up with this kind of engine would be awesome. The appeal for that kind of game these days is so small though. Only hardcore gamers would buy a game like that.

Spaced standing MK (this one I read about here), cr. FP. All I can think of.
Just some basic observations:
-You're jumping too much
-You're using her qcf+mp without confirming it, it's really unsafe so once you start fighting people who know that you're going to eat a lot of damage.
-Utilize your fireball more
-You're sticking out a lot of limbs for no reason, you're going to get crush countered this way.
Does anyone have a video on Karin BnBs and combos ? Really want to improve my game with her.
Also, I fought a Zangief that did the V-Trigger and, once I was close, his CA. I tried jumping from it, no dice. How the hell are we supposed to escape this ?
FANG also irritates me. Can't deal with this character and Dhalsim.

It's the exact oposite of this game. It has TONS of content. And it's about to release it's complete edition.
By the time I'm done with that, SF5 should me in an acceptable state.
Untill then, it can fill the gap.

What! FANG is awesome. Tons of fun and easy to learn but still complex. Plus I love charge characters, so...
The 2 I had were very clearly rage quits. One Mika right when I got the last hit, and a Ryu close to death as I was v-skill sommersaulting over him with Rashid. Both were on long winstreaks. I actually met the the Mika again later today and lost to some lameness, I should have alt f4'ed like he did but meh I dont do that.
I just fought one that seemed like they knew what they were doing.. I have no idea how to get in on dude. Just purple shit all over the screen.
