ggs. I'd have suggested that you be willing to wake-up SRK more often to keep me from doing what I wanted on a knockdown, but your defense was pretty good regardless.

Was the netcode good for you? It was basically perfect on my end.

If I was spacing c.HP properly, you actually *can't* punish it. It's +1 on block at maximum distance. (But I'm not super consistent at getting +0 or better.)

Anyone want to critique my noob ass? I'm hot/hobo Ryu.

http://youtu.be/ULPSEDTM6zY

I posted two of my worst matches and these are only my 4th and 5th match playing ranked. I had never played a Bison at that point and was scared as shit, hence my obvious panic. I know I suck and most things I do will get stuffed by better players but I'm just looking for pointers before I develop bad habits. I haven't played any other fighters online, outside of messing around with friends but I'm having so much fun with SFV and I want to get better.

I just went on a 6 game win streak and the rush this game can provide (especially close matches) is insane. I finally moved up to Bronze and am preparing myself for my inevitable losing streak. Also, if anyone, around or slightly better than my skill level, wants to play, it me up. PSN is Ehjee.

my biggest problem right now is knowing what to do when the opponent is constantly blocking or what I can do to punish after I block. Any tips would be appreciated as this community has been amazing.

lastly, I asked this a few pages back but does anyone know if sfv, or any other fighter, has leagues and seasons with built in playoffs or tourneys like EA sports games. That would be super cool to battle for points and face your league rivals in a playoff or something.

Thanks, in advance

I'd love to be wrong! To be clear I'm not saying you can't play a good Mika, I just feel like she's pretty limited compared to most characters. What's your ID? I'm Noray87 (anyone can feel free to add me for Lounge matches)

The best I can do is EX peach, which has 1 hit of armor, but it doesn't even beat a normal grab. It has slow startup. I tend to either block or jab on wakeup because idk what else to do. Sometimes I get frisky and go for her vortex command grab but it's super risky.

I feel as a Birdie main Mika absolutely wrecks my shit. I'm gonna try to pick her up to figure out who has a better matchup. I feel she's high tier, but I can see why people think she's bad with limited mid range options

yeah not bad at all, definitely down to play again

agh, good to know about the cHP. I was losing my mind thinking it's -4. you're using that move really nicely, it's pretty scary. my friend plays mika and it's not part of his game. it's much harder being ready for the drop kicks with that c.hp actually putting me on notice

Just had a particularly frustrating losing streak.

I love R Mika so goddamn much but I'll be very surprised if she isn't in the bottom tier of characters. Her anti-air is mediocre, she lacks invincible wakeup options (even EX), lots of low prio moves, no range and average mobility. Everything comes down to how good you are at mindgames and footsies, because you HAVE to get in close (or bait the enemy into coming close). I could be totally wrong because I'm a scrub, but this is my feeling atm.

Gotta learn how to maximize your normals. Once you're good at using the right ones at the right ranges it becomes easier to sneak in a sHK or cHP to close the distance.

According to the Prima guide, sLP, sLK, sMP, and cMK all have favorable hitboxes that extend beyond the hurtboxes of those moves, so if you space them at max range they can actually beat out a lot of things you might not expect and not necessarily lose the trade in a clash against normals of higher strength (unless the normal they're trading with has a similarly favorable hitbox of its own).

This applies to cHP too, but only in the later half of its active frames. Its earlier frames are easier to stuff.

EDIT: And once you're good with the basics, you can start with the shenanigans:

But they aren't and never will be. We couldn't even get hit/hurt box indicators in the versions of Marvel 3 that actually sold.

At the end of the day, the community is going to do a far better job showing people how to play than Capcom ever will, which leads them to not even try. That's a little frustrating, but it is what it is. Never rely on Capcom for extra.

We're releasing a mode in our March update that has a ton of tips for players of all levels. I'm working on getting a video made that demos what it looks like in game -- I've seen it and its pretty cool. :)

Had this guy called Techno 4 times and everytime they're being beaten in the first round it suddenly gets all laggy. Cammy having faster distance specials gets a benefit from this (as I know, won several when I was Cammy!) but it's happened too much to be a coincidence. The connection never recovers like if it was a WiFi issue or anythng.

Her cross up is fucking terrible too. But, I love playing Mika. She's my first grappler truthfully so it's taking me forever to adjust but I don't mind playing low-tier if she falls under that category.

That's interesting. Where would it be located on the current menu? Under challenges?

thanks for the update.

thanks for the update.

NP, a full list of all the stuff coming in the near future can be found here:

Combo trials will be included which I think will help a lot of people as well. We've just been busting ass on the tutorial videos on this end in the meantime but we plan on having a ton of stuff in-game to help people out.

Hey I'm curious - are you guys planning on trying to sneak in any last-minute changes to characters before CPT starts? I know once things are rolling the plan was (at least as messaged) to wait until the CPT season was over. But this March update is going to land before CPT really kicks off.

That's good to hear though, looking forward to it

Any news on dc penalties?

Why do so many people with over 2k LP have the absolute worst fucking connections ever dude was all over the screen from one moment to the next I couldn't even tell what was going on. How do you play like that?

For the wi-fi warriors themselves everything looks fine

In actuality, I don't think it's all that necessary to go to ridiculous lengths in tutorials. For one, how bout actually just figuring some shit out on ya own, lol. Everything doesn't need to be broken down to an Nth degree just for some folks to get an understanding of things. Live practice is the best teacher anyway. At the end of the day, it's just a game. It's not par the course for a job, EVEN if one was to get a job in the game industry.

You can still figure things out on your own. These tutorials don't go super in depth with every single possible combo and are great to newer players who haven't played many fighting games before. Pretty much all fighting games these days have in depth tutorials to help people get up to speed. Not everyone has years of experience of fighting games to just pick up SFV and discover tech in one lab session. Most people that want to learn are usually forced to go to youtube anyways to look up bnb and tech videos on their characters. Giving them an option in game to view these tutorials is a great step. Having these types of official videos makes it easier for new players to find solid, good sources of information.

Live practice is the best way to learn to the play the game when competing with others and in everyday real life scenarios but live practice isn't going to teach you game mechanics and character breakdowns. You can't have the attitude of "how bout actually just figuring some shit out on ya own, lol" to get people into the game. It is hostile and toxic and doesn't do anything good for anyone unless you are trying to prey on weak players to get your win streaks up.

Have you guys seen the videos of the "ALT+TAB lag switch" bug floating around?

I think that's kind of important.

How long does it take to find games? Causal or ranked. I've been playing offline since I got the game, but I'm curious to now play others online. I gave up after 2-4 minutes of nothing happening.

I hope you don't mean that you aren't signed into your CFN. Lol

Day 8

Battle lounges still don't fucking work. It's been over a week and I still can't play with any of my friends. Get your shit together, Capcom, seriously.

Usually not that long. Are you in training mode?

Because I find that constantly pausing and restarting training mode causes the game to not find matches so quickly.

Rage quitters in this are a real problem.

The worst part is because they rage quit they get a higher ranking and lose more often.

And the better you are, the more you encounter them.

Cool, thanks man. Hope the solution to ragequitters comes out soon!

I'd stop playing ranked if I were you. I am not touching ranked until that stuff is dealt with, not gonna waste my time.

When are the TE2 sticks getting supported? I'm starting to blame the lag from having to use emulators for my terrible play. Getting super frustrated.

I think the easiest fix for ragequitters is to just say "if you get disconnected from the match in any sort of way, it's treated as a loss". But that would probably backfire right now with the server instability

That's what I was saying. They can't really give losses or LP reductions for disconnects until the servers are stable. People would a lot more pissed getting unwarranted quitter penalties than they are just not getting wins currently. Both suck, but that's the lesser shit sandwhich until the servers are stable.

Bump, anyone know this? Include Chun-li's EX upside down spin thing in the question as well

Are you asking about HK or charged.HK. Both are identical moves, with different properties.

HK is punishable by most LP/LK->Special as she's -4
charged HK is a frame trap as she's +2. I discourage mashing reversal, but in this case, Mika will either want to
1) Command grab you
2) LK-MP Target combo
which both lose to invincible EX reversal (Chun LI's EX Helicopter kick)

Your best bet is to not be in the situation to begin with by neutral jumping her when you see her charge

As a Ryu player what should I be trying to do against Necalli? His normals eat me alive up close and he can just berserker barrage through fireballs.

You definitely don't wanna be throwing fireballs from too far where he can react with that move. However, since it's a charge move, as soon as you notice him moving forward, you're safe to throw a fireball. Of course, you also don't wanna be throwing them when he has super.

All normal versions of the berserker charge are unsafe (-6). If you block one you can punish it in many ways. Target combo is an easy one. St.MP > LK tatsu > Super, if you have full bar, is very painful.

It's true that Necalli's normal will beat Ryu's on paper. I think the ideal range here is just outside his longest buttons, like st.HK, where you can throw fireballs and he can't just jump or berserker charge on reaction. Treat your fireball like a poke. Don't be predictable and vary your timing.

Once he starts respecting the fireball, you can get closer to him and start using your other normals. That's kind of Ryu' gameplan in every matchup, I think.

A lot of Necallis I've seen like to dash in to start their offense. Stop that with st.mp. It's a safer move to whiff than cr.mk and can lead to big damage if they just run into it.

Necallis like to do cr.mk > LK stomp, which they can confirm into super. A lot of people don't know LK stomp is slightly unsafe (-4) and needs to be spaced correctly. Move in close and block one of those, you can punish with st.LK > LK/MK tatsu. With super, you can punish it even if they space it correctly.

I've had a difficult time meating Necalli because his jabs are so fast. If you're also having problems with that, it pays to go into training mode and make sure you have the timing of your meaties right.

Protip: turn fight request on in the options menu. That way you can mess around in training mode (or survival, though you obviously risk loss of progress) but you aren't just sitting at a load screen

As far as I'm aware, finding matches was sorted out release day. They were fairly slow, but working. The next day onward they were extremely fast, regularly finding matches within a minute from one another

There's been issues with matching up players of way different levels and failing to send results to the server, but actual playing hasn't been an issue overall. (Speaking solely about Ranked, have never tried Casual beyond release night when everything was fucked)

The worst rage quitters are always guys higher level than me. What does that say about the game? smh
