I'm starting to realise how useful Cammy's Hooligan Combo and QSK are in this game. Added a new level of pressure and confusion that I didn't even know she was capable of. Holy fuck.

Sorry for the noobness but I did it guys!!!

3rd try with Bison and I got Normal Survival down yay!!!

I got the story and easy survival done with all characters and Bison was my favourite so I took him to normal and pulled it off.

Super happy!

4 was better at launch lol

Super was where it peaked for me, but I still played all the way up to Ultra. I just stopped enjoying it as much and mainly just played with a close friend of mine.

The more it developed, the less interest I had in developing with it. It was still a hell of a game in it's own right and I respect the high level play a ton, but I started seeing it as more of a system than a game.

This on the other hand, this is a fucking game.

I will say the netcode and online play in SF5 is far better than what it was in SF4. Well, at least in my experiences.

charged st.hk is perfect for someone who is getting very aggressive with their footsie pokes. You also have a fantastic normal AA (the bunnyhop), so you should be using that to shut down people who are trying to jump over your head.

Go into the training room, set one of the recordings to make the AI jump over you, and start practicing reacting to that with the bunnyhop AA. I actually think it makes the opponent flip back in close range, which is perfect for a command grab follow-up.

Thanks, I will definitely try that in training! Getting it engrained in my brain is definitely key. I need to use the bunny hop more. I've anti-aired some players using a well timed cr. HP too which is strange.

I know this is super scrub tier, but I finally made it into Bronze!

Given how I don't recall ever winning a single online match in SF4, I'm really happy with what I've been able to do with SF5 so far

Can any Karin players out there give me some advice? I just started playing yesterday, and here is one my later matches online. I've been doing well in ranked matches, like 15 wins and 5 losses but it mostly seems I'm winning because people aren't accustomed to Karin's gimmicks. I am in the player in Red. Thanks.

I can tell you right now going into the dash when you're not in the middle of a confirmed combo is a no-no. Most think it's free pressure, but 9 times out of 10, your followups will be blocked, you'll still be unsafe, and you'll be in a bad place.

Also, in the first round, you V-Triggered randomly. Make sure you do that in the middle of a combo, or after you knock them down. Look into prioritizing this, because it will be absolutely beneficial to your damage output.

Actually, most of the advice I can give is learn to put the brakes on your offense a bit. Most people have associated Karin with mid-screen Ressen overhead dives, and are starting to learn to anticipate it. It's a recipe for disaster to throw it out without care.

If I can get to silver I will be happy lol. Going to practice forreal this year.

Same here! Once I'm there, I am out! Lol

Well lesson learned I guess. If you're going to bait a dp, atleast block you don't gain anything not blocking in that situation.

It's not because I wasn't blocking, I can block, I wouldn't get to Super Bronze if I didn't. I input a move. Plus I'm FANG, I'm constantly blocking to charge.

I notice you do cr.HP command dash cancel and sometimes you followed up with tenko even when the opponent blocked, in this case the opponent got counterhit most of the time because he was mashing something out, but all versions of tenko are unsafe, and you can get hit out of the command dash when canceling from a blocked normal like that if they react to it. You also shouldn't ressenha fullscreen like that just trying to catch your opponent not blocking high as its pretty unsafe. This guy wasn't really punishing it. Instead just walk forward and pressure with her normals. All versions of mujinkyaku are unsafe on block as well so make sure you hitconfirm it. After blocked jump ins instead of going for cr.HP command dash or sweeping you should go for safe pressure or a throw mixup. Frame traps like cr.MP st.MP, or cr.MP st.HP, cancel into shoulder since it's safe (-2), lights, tick throw. Just anything that isn't as punishable.

Okay, thanks. And to be honest, the empty dash in the middle of a confirmed combo that you see is me missing the input for the punch post QCF+K. It's been awhile since I used my fightstick and my experience with it is mostly with charge characters. I also want to get better at hit confirming a crouching medium kick into a QCB+K. You see me land those pokes and I'm trying to hit confirm it into something better but it's tough.

I think I might ditch Survival (Hard).. I'm starting to get used to this color.

Edit: My internet went out... GG

Definitely done with Survival. Lol

Man I can't decide for a character. I'm super new, but: Laura is fun to play but I'm not a fan of her looks, Karin looks great but plays so bland so far. Mika I just don't get, Cammy seems kinda fun, so does Vega, but both seem way too advanced. Rashid's Design is great, might try him as well.

So far it's a close battle between Laura and Karin, but both don't seem "just right".

Thanks for the advice. I wanted to play as Karin because she seemed to be the kind of character that I normally wouldn't want to play. And I wanted to try something different for once.

I'm enjoying using her. I think I can do better with other characters but it's a lot of fun learning her. It seems her standing medium kick is her best poke right? Also, can you explain as to why her QCB+P >> Up+K sometimes lands into a throw and sometimes she just hops over them? Is it because they are crouching?

decided to take my NecNec top ranked.

got a 3 win streak going which got me back to super bronze (one win against a 1800lp Bison which im proud)

then on the 4th game I got a Karin. First round, she taunts before we engace. I beat her. Second round, I perfect her.

I think he was mad :(

anyway, im loving NecNec, he's kinda perfect for me since im trash and he doesnt need that much execution. And he looks badass

You guys are right tho, Capcom needs to fix that shit, its stupid

If you are throwing out CR. MK like that you should be ready to cancel into QCB+HK. If they are blocking your CR. MK attempts you can cancel it into QCB+LP to overhead (which cancels into super) but if they block that they can punish you hard.

The rest of the advice in this thread is good so follow that.

Ugh these god damn scrubs who rage quit. Just beat a Silver Nash and he quit right as I KOed him. I can't believe Capcom didn't have a rage quit system in place when the game launched. It's like, "Oh? I wonder how this asshole is a Silver rank...it all makes sense now."

To the people who are rage quitting, hold your L's like the rest of us. Don't be that guy. I was just about to get back to Silver rank too.

I think I'm finally starting to get the hang of 2D fighters! Won most of my fights online last night simply by poking, learning/forcing my opponent into unfavourable situations and basically sticking to one combo when an opening appears and not doing anything flashy.

I'll stick with Ryu a bit more as I learn more about other characters online and how they play (yet to see lots of Necali/Rashid/Dhalsim/Zangeif) before I try to learn Rashid himself.

Yeah the command grab followup whiffs on crouchers. st.MK is a good poke, you can just use it to counterpoke and whiff punish although there are more rewarding options, one application of it you can mess with is slightly delaying it after a safe blockstring to catch opponents who try to jump immediately.

yo Moardain holding his own in the 20s, damn dude good job

Had some awesome games with Fersis. The range for Zangief's moves seems huge. :P I'll be around later for more fighting.

BAN CHUN LI!!!
So happy that we can play with our latino brothers. The netcode is the best in the series.

I think im gonna start practicing with RMika. She's so fun!

Which is REALLY annoying by the way. I don't understand the logic behind Capcom's thinking on that.
Both of the follow ups to Rasenha go low. The slide is CLEARLY intended to catch people of guard standing and blocking, the command throw should catch people blocking low...

It's pretty useless as is...
I want to condition you to thinking I'm going low and then mixing it up with that move, but the joke is... There's no mix up, if you block low. You win.
