Eurogamer: AC art used for Uncharted 4 trailer (Up: Naughty Dog responds)

Why is the new trailer 60fps?
I thought they ditched it.

The previous trailer was 60FPS but the game video itself was still playing 30fps. It's related to the compression/bit-rate that YouTube applies and having it output at 60 means they get a bit more forgiving compression which is needed to see the beauty of this game.

Good point, though it still seems like a silly mistake. Wonder what that guy is gonna face.

It depends on how ND handles something like this. I guess a lot of companies would just fire the guy, but if it's a more family like environment, he could just get his ass kicked and continue to work there.

Because 60 fps can have a better bitrate on Youtube. The game is still running at 30 (the frames are duplicated).

The new one is better.
I think it really loses a bit of an effect now that the picture doesn't show rocks arching over a beach like we see in the game itself a split second later.

Though I imagine the final game wont have a cut like that

Another easter egg popped up

It's all good. Can't wait for the game.

The other video had more than 20k likes already. What a depressing mistake for the marketing team to handle. Now they will rr-uploaded it but it will never get to such highs in views.

not a huge deal. The only reason this seems bigger than it is, is because apologists and naughty dog fanboys will go over the top in their defense. I can't help but point it out and argue why it's wrong. The amount of people who were willing to say it was an "homage" or that "it's just one piece of art" is really pretty sad.

It's not really telling on how we view art, but instead its telling on how far people will go to defend something like they, even if they know it's wrong.
For a chance do you know what does presumption of innocence mean?. Well, is what makes justice better and not a sort of inquisition.

Joking? The game itself looks unbelievable. Anyway, both for me. I am just glad I get to spend some time with Dark Souls before this lands.

As pretty as it looks, I can't be sure how many other assets have been lifted, and I'd prefer not to give my money to plagiarists.

I guess if they had stolen from an indie game instead of an Ubi Soft title, people would be more upset.

Why are people saying "good on them" for changing out a stolen picture they didn't have the rights to use in the first place and just giving a lip service apology?

Most other companies would sugar coat something like this, Druckmann just flat out admits they fucked up.

Naughty Dog still GOAT studio

Maybe it's supposed to be like that.

Now it has this essence of the reality of the island not living up to the fantasy.

Just get Nolan North in a recording booth. "I expected more green". Done.

I don't know, the other image was pretty clearly not the same place. Even the shape of the cliff was all wrong.

This one is more clearly not the same place, I'd say. It goes from this mountainous terrain heavily covered in foliage to sparsely covered.

Is the art based on a real world location? So could someone have googled it + art and stupidly grabbed the first thing that came up without checking?

I assume there will be a statement at some point from ND apologising and explaining. Probs placeholder art that an intern left and got overlooked.

ND apologized and you can't hold the entire studio accountable, given it's pretty much what people were speculating. The problem with google and grab is that there are copyright laws. It's funny because there is even a filter for this called the "creative commons", so whoever did this is incredibly lazy.

I kind of see why this mattered. But this is another case of trolls on GAF blowing up something that really doesn't matter to anyone (except for the artist behind the concept and maybe studios involved).

Tell us who should be tarred and feathered then. Off with their heads!

Could have easily just apologized to Ubisoft in private and waited for the issue to disappear, which it certainly would when the game is released and acclaimed. They corrected the video and apologized publicly within hours. The fuck up was bad but they did the right thing, even if their options were limited

never presumed anything. Everyone wanted to write it off immediately because it was naughty dog and that's sad.

I really want to know if they re-rendered that entire scene with a new texture and re-did the whole trailer because of it or if they have an Adobe Premiere wizard over there who fixed that image

They admitted that it was a mistake, fixed it and apologised, what else are they supposed to do?

I think you are overreaching man. But that's just my opinion.

So is this a huge deal, or something minor thats being blown out of proportion and can be fixed easly?

Genuine question, this thread is all over the place

It was more or less due to the fact ND basically plagiarized someone else's work. It wasn't done out of malicious intent, but rather negligence, since they probably googled "carribean artwork" and then popped a result they liked into the trailer, and they have done it before with that map in the last of us.

Plagiarism is a problem, especially when its done in something designed to be sold, since you are profiting using someone elses work, no matter how minor the inclusion is. As for people claiming it to be an easter egg, or claiming its not a big deal, it would be like writing an essay paper, copying and pasting a paragraph from another essay without citing it or even putting it in their own words. You can not benifit from someone elses work, no matter how minor its inclusion. Its still plagiarism.

And ND owned up to their mistake, but this whole thing could have been avoided if they simply used their own piece of concept art.

Come on. It was a fuck up by likely one individual and look how fast they responded and changed it. But if you want to miss out on what looks to be a mind blowing game and probably GOTY, then more power to you.

Honestly, Naughty dog corporate heads should know better than this. This was stupid. And of course something controversial happened in gaming, Here comes the snarky twitter jokes, I cant wait to see how funny, creative, and utterly miserable everyone is

It's PR for Black Flag and for Uncharted 4. ;-)

Of course it can be a mistake, but that's not a 20 hour game, but a two minutes trailer. So really nobody noticed?

Personally I could see it passing a fair use defense, but it's certainly faux pas for an industry staple to let something like that happen, at the very least.

Alas, apology has been issued and image replaced. A black mark on ND, but harmless IMHO. I think they'll shrug it off and take steps to avoid a repeat in the future.

No it's actually quite the opposite, where people went out of their way to protect their beloved Naughty Dog.

You're right, I'm not happy either not until we burn their office down, or if Druckmann admits his favorite game of all time is Black Flag.
