Reposting from the other thread.

Jonathan Cooper is an ex-ubisoft animator. He joined Naughty Dog and said some stuff about his previous employer when the female assassins thingy came to light.

Now with this news, an Ubisoft Montreal dev (creative director) tweeted this to him

He waited two years... all for revenge.

Brilliant. Best served cold. :D

Quick as fuck. So we can honestly move on now.

Based on some posts in this thread you'd think Its an ND policy to just go around stealing

I don't think we can move on until they address the situation. A mistake is a mistake but they should own up to it and at the least apologize to Ubisoft. They don't really owe the fans anything, this is more about the making things right with the original creators

That pretty definitively puts paid to the "its a homage" or "they just licenced the same image" arguments put forward earlier.

I'm sure an apology is on deck. The simple fact that reuploaded it with a different image says as much.

They could have already done that .
Unless you think they need to apologize over the internet .

What I don't get is it would have taken work, even if only a moments, to remove the figure in the original picture. Why not just find a better picture if it was this throw away? Stupid move whoever did that. They should fess up.

Honestly, Naughty dog corporate heads should know better than this. This was stupid. And of course something controversial happened in gaming, Here comes the snarky twitter jokes, I cant wait to see how funny, creative, and utterly miserable everyone is

And done. In super impressively fast time.

I mean, to change the asset, rerender, rerecord, and upload that fast is pretty damned awesome response time by ND.

Bruce Leroy explained earlier how something like this could happen and slip through the cracks

So is this a huge deal, or something minor thats being blown out of proportion and can be fixed easly?

Genuine question, this thread is all over the place

I doubt anyone there knew about it until this all came to light this morning. Except for the person who provided/placed the asset

How would anyone at naughty dog know where that picture came from except the guy who put it there until the Internet blew up?

In our eagerness to get the story trailer out we made a regrettable mistake and didn’t thoroughly vet the art work used for an in game painting. We’ve already updated the trailer. We hold all artistry in high regard and take full responsibility for having allowed this to happen.

We want to sincerely apologize to everyone at Ubisoft, the Assassin’s Creed team, the original artist, and our fans.

Holy crap that's insane. I suppose the animation track and everything for the trailer shot would still be set up somwhere, but they managed to change the texture in the scene and re-record it, re-render the video and get it into the right hands within a couple hours.

Impressive xD

How do you control something like this though ? If one person is just given the task to make an artwork of an island and he decides to copy it from another game, how should I know that as a corporate head?
