Ugh, I wish I could explore more characters like this. Right now I feel like I'm barely above water online by sticking to Mika exclusively.

I had a lobby where I played FT1 and just picked random characters that weren't Gief for the first time since the Beta.

It was a lot of fun

I am seriously starting to think about ditching Ryu for someone else. Never was a big fan of shotos anyway. Does any character play similarly to Boxer? Used to play Dictator in SFIV but he feels weird without Psycho Crusher. Might still give him a spin.

Gief plays like Boxer in that they both spam cr. jab :P

Cross post from the music thread:

For those who don't know, you can buy the SF5 soundtrack here:
http://www.sumthing.com/p/street-fighter-v/

And, for those who got the collectors edition, you can get a discount (since the collectors edition comes with a 5 track sampler from this site).

Also, I think Steam SF5 owners can download the soundtrack on Steam? (edit: not free, I don't think. But, you need SF5 to get it)

City in Chaos alternate version is my current obsession...

You can buy the OST on Steam as DLC:

This gets you both MP3 and FLAC encoded tracks.

Is Ken's v.Skill run ever safe off of a blocked normal?

When's the best time to use the run, outside of crush counters or hitting st.HP? Is there a way to OS the run?
No it's never safe, even after a st.HP it's Kens biggest nerd from the beta, and we're all hoping he gets back his safe run pressure.

However, it's not the easiest thing to counter if you don't abuse it, so you can mix it up sometime canceling run off lights into lights, I think at worse you'll get jabbed out of it on reaction. If opponent are anticipating it though they might jab into big damage, but that hasn't been my experience.

You can OS run so it only comes out on hit. I haven't practiced it yet, but it's possible, seen Momochi do it.

Good uses for run that's easy

1) on wake up
2) close distance after a lp Hadouken
3) AA with c.HP and run after for a mixup
4)Step kick from max range or when you have V-trigger
5)Hit confirm into step kick from target combo or st.HP

Does anyone play Fang here or is it just me? So far for over a week of playing i only met ONE Fang player, UK btw.

I would love to have him as a third character to play as but so far I am too scared to attempt to play as him in Ranked or even Casuals. He is a fun character. A shame nobody uses him yet. I have only met him once in Ranked. Was a very confusing battle :p

Maybe was you as the player was from the UK? Was pretty high rank too.

Ugh, I wish I could explore more characters like this. Right now I feel like I'm barely above water online by sticking to Mika exclusively.

Take it one step at a time. I am actually dialing it back (I dropped Necalli for Birdie), but I played most of the characters significantly throughout the betas so it wasn't exactly like I was starting from scratch. I do feel that everybody should have a secondary character in part because it helps to quell the frustration that comes from losing streaks, but anything more than that is up to the individual. You will almost definitely level up faster by focusing on fewer characters, and when I hit a wall I dial it back until I make progress.

Does anyone have a good block string for Necalli? I'm having a lot of problems lately now that people are switching styles from rushdown to patient/countering. I need some way to change up my game and apply pressure if needed, but nothing I do feels particularly safe.

Oh to have Rashid's block strings....

I've been going with cr.mk XX lk.stomp (safe) and then following up with cr.mp XX lp.disc to catch them pressing the wrong buttons or if they block I finish with stomp and begin poking with cr.lp/cr.mp. If they get smart and beat the cr.mp then I follow the stomp with cr.lp which I think you can confirm to LP xx DP or EX Stomp but I havent gotten good at comboing it yet.

I'm also trying to get better at timing his overhead, the dude playing necalli on that daigo stream was creating some great pressure with his overhead and cr.mk XX lk.stomp in the corner.

Haha! Is that all you need though like with Boxer?

It is very far reaching.

Although Gief doesn't have dash punches and has command grabs. They both have long, annoying normals and mutliple armored things though lol

I think you'll find characters with elements of Rog, but no real Rog yet until DLC comes. Try 'em out though

I am seriously afraid that Capcom will give Rog the same treatment they gave to Vega. Really don't understand the low amount of charge characters this game has.

Trial mode is coming and you can already smell the struggle

20_ryutrials03.jpg

From Eventhubs

So one of the first things I asked Ayano was how Trials would be different in SF5 and, more importantly, if the DLC fighters would come with their own set of Trials too.
"Fundamentally, Trials in SF5 provide the same sort of functionality as they did in SF4," Ayano said.

"However, this time around as much as possible we'd like to provide more practical combo examples in Trials."

The new focus on practical combo examples could be why each character in Street Fighter 5 only has 10 Trials, down from 24 in Ultra Street Fighter 4.

And judging from the single screenshot Capcom has released for the mode -- which shows that Ryu's #03 Trial challenge requires the player to perform a jump HP, standing MP, crouching MK into a Hadouken -- it looks like the game has also eliminated single-special-move Trials.

Will DLC fighters receive Trials?

"As for DLC character Trials... Naturally, we'd love to provide them.

"With that said, however, whether or not we'll actually be able to provide them... as the Trials mode is still currently under development, I can't promise anything yet," he said.

My heart begins to skip a beat.

"Although I can't promise you here and now that Trials for DLC characters will definitely be provided, it's something we'd very much like to include," Ayano reassures.

barebone trial mode incoming tbh

then again SF4 had some filler trials at the start with the single special attacks and doing the Super/U1/U2.. plus I don't think some characters have 20+ different combos anyway lol

So what is the "not ranked" part under my name...and everyone else I see? Super bronze isn't the rank?
I think it's supposed to be the Rank number that usually shows up below your name during the actual match; a couple of times that's shown up as "Not Ranked" to me as well.

I think I saw the same part of the stream as you did, cr.mk and lk stomp have been my go to so far, i also like mixing in a standing hk, as it's got great range and comes out fairly quickly. I really need to start using more EX stomp too. I see a lot of high level Necallis using that pretty liberally. I really wish we had even a single multi-hit normal.

As much as I love playing as Rashid, I'm really thinking of dropping him in favor of someone else. It's so friggin' hard to answer with anything on wakeup and keep people off you. If the ex mixer whiffs it's punish city for you.

So what is the "not ranked" part under my name...and everyone else I see? Super bronze isn't the rank?

I think it just sometimes fails to retrieve rank from the server. Last night mine went back and forth between 205k whatever and not ranked even when losing a bunch in a row. So it's not that it shows that if you fall too low. It also went from displaying it back to not ranked after wins as well.

That's definitely his biggest weakness right now. But it's so much dang fun to lock down people in the corner with fierce into ex tarnado

Seriously how do I play Mika? I'm supposed to be the one that is making the other player scared. But every time I play anyone that isn't a complete novice, I get zoned out, and everything I do gets blocked, jabbed, crush countered or shoryuken'd....Once I get knocked down, I just can't get back in the the fight at all. People just keep doing shit on my wakeup where I often end up in loops of "nope, you guessed the 50/50 wrong, down you go again"

3 RQs in a row, and I'm not even that good lol. The salt of lousy 1500+LP Ryus is real.

As you said SF4 had filler trials. Hell over half of them were filler considering you went through all moves and some c.LP > s.LP and s.MP xx Shoryuken stuff. SFV seems to have those just thrown away because they are pretty useless.

Wall jumping down into a cross up into the corner is my favorite thing. I love tricky bullshit like that and it makes this potential breakup so hard for me.

Also can someone tell me how the fuck Mika's f.hp is supposed to be so good? It's litterally shit when I try to use it. Zero range, horrible as AA, get's beat by seemingly everything

You need to use it as a meaty on their wake-up.
If it hits, free juggle!
If if doesn't, it's positive, so you can get the same mix-up as after a charged st.HK (command throw or st.LK bnb combo).

That's the only use? Everyone else seem to have insane crush counter moves in comparrison. The only other crush counter move I get is a l.hk that just knocks down and because of that is damn near pointless. Oh, and a HK which loses to everything...

Wait that shows up for you guys? Every match I've ever had shows it as unranked pre match. Every beta and every retail match.

Yeah, they could absolutely provide a decent set of trials with just 10 in a set. But honestly, at this point I'll believe it when I see it. The best solution would be if they allowed people to create and share their own trials, but that's probably never going to happen.

I just want there to be punishment for ragequitting. That's all for now.

Then, please, release Alex and Lobbies. Please Cacpom.

My rank has never shown on the versus screen since launch. It's always Not Ranked. The game also doesn't record my stats and percentages from in the fighter profile. I'm guessing it's server issues.

Can't you eat a crush counter? I wish there was more frame data on canceled runs.

Some times it shows up but most of the time it says not ranked.

They could be ass for sure but I really doubt they would mess it up. Creating own trials and sharing them would be pretty great I agree.

Had a match this morning against a pretty good Gief. He NEVER used his ground SPD.
And I kept expecting it. It was so frustrating.

I'm only hovering between ultra bronze and silver right now so I don't know how much I can help, but I have to rely on V-Reversals to stop pressure sometimes. There are too many characters that just have better pressure game than Mika and there's not much you can do, so I have no shame about throwing out a V-Reversal the first chance I get.

Mika's weird because she does the most damage up close but staying close is a tenuous proposition at best, and she only has dash, jump-in, charged hk, and cr.hp to close the distance fast. Her normals are so stubby and most of them don't combo, so it's just kind of a grind to get past sonic booms or hadoukens. I've given up on jump-ins on Ryu, Ken, Cammy, and Karin when she has EX meter. For those matches I just try to get the life lead and back off, occasionally fishing with charged hk, and maybe cr.hp at about the same range as s.mk (good for back v-trigger mixups). Trying to incorporate more lp, mp frame traps but no one falls for them :(

I use it to crush counter dps and on wakeup. I find cr.mp to be a more reliable anti-air.

How do you crush counter dps that have invincibility frames?

Sounds like you're pretty much where I am.

I've tried watching the top Mika, and he just seems to go ham with jump in and shit, and will often lose huge chunks of life, then all of a sudden he'll just get in a shave them down in seconds. Ofg course the ryu's he plays never dps on wakeup and stuff...

They really need to let you search Battle Lounges by region. I know it's supposed to show you their flag when you search all, but it takes so long to load that by the time you can identify the connections every room is already taken, so you have to just pick a room and roll the dice on the connection till you get in.
