Star Citizen Alpha 2.0 | The 'Verse Awakens

Did any other Aurora owners get an email just now about an offer to upgrade to the Origin 300i for a $5 discount or something? Is that a good deal?

I backed this game out of hype back during the Kickstarter campaign, but never really followed it since.

Thanks!

I feel quite lucky in that I got one of the special packages with a 350R. The double engine in the back and mounting options will make it one hell of an interceptor when I can fully outfit it.

350R is fun to fly. Hopefully with 300 redesign it will have a few storage units like the original brochure said it would. Will make for a great high value small volume smuggling ship.

Update, 2.2.0e is out. It is fix many of the other issues with the port doors and spawning ships. However it has introduces a sweet cry engine cant get next frame bug. I have crashed about 8 times this morning.

I got this as well. I have an Aurora LX though which I think was a limited offer? Is it still available for purchase? Seems like I should keep the decommissioned one as that will be valuable as a collector's item?

The chances of an Aurora being valuable in any way shape or form is quite low. They're extremely cheap starter ships with tons sold. Even if a variant was truly rare, how many people would actually spend much on one? Given how little use they have, it would have to be one hell of a ship collector. Either that or an Aurora fanatic - assuming those even exist. (Can't say I've seen anybody crazy in love with the Aurora online.)

I agree. A "rare" Aurora is like saying "rare" brand new Toyota Camry.

Too me it is just not a fun ship to fly or look at. For those that want to start off flying one and earn better ships using it, more power to them. I could not make myself do that, not in that ship anyhow.

The Aurora is such an ugly ship. It's the Honda Element or Nissan Cube of Star Citizen.

It looks the part it serves. A cheap, no frills daily driver for space flight that can accommodate a number of tasks. Of course people don't aspire to fly daily drivers in their make believe space sim - they get enough of the mundane in real life. This leaves the ship merely as a stepping stone that'll be dumped ASAP in the pursuit of better things. I doubt many will even look back on it with fond nostalgia.

Still makes plenty of sense for the ship to exist though, as there will be plenty of NPCs to take up the role of the common man.

Have you been getting a ton of the Cry Engine expecting frame errors and crashing to desktop? At least the built in error reporter catches it.

Yeah, that is the one. But like you said, the error reporter catches it.

Also, I finally spawned with my Gemini LH-86 in the room. I hope they eventually let me choose to spawn with it on my person.. I mean... I do own it!

I am not sure if the slide is really working.

Didn't see any more PTU invitations mentioned yet - are they still on the initial 1000? Weird considering they're up to version E.

it has some absolutely brutal stability issues and gameplay issues at the moment tbh. I am constantly losing my hud and ability to control my character correctly on top of cryengine animation errors.

It needs those to go away. hah

This is 100% correct. In E today alone I have prob crashed over 100 times.

Most ship collectors in games like this are completionists so it really doesn't matter if it's cheap, if they're missing that variant they'll buy it. Basically It doesn't have to be worth a ton, it just has to be worth more than the 5000 or whatever UEC premium to be better to keep.

Hitched a ride on a Freelancer last night and boy, those guns pack a punch!

It's nice to see that the game is slowly starting to take form. I'm getting a good feeling about it.

No, waiting for the game to come out IS the game.

Stealth too! :P

Sneak on ships and shoot people while waiting in the cargo hold or their bed

If you already managed to get in the ship, why not commandeer it when nobody is around? Kind of pointless to twiddle your thumbs waiting for the pilot just so you can kill them. It's also needlessly dangerous in the case of multicrew ships where you can end up facing multiple opponents.

At any rate, once locks get implemented, I don't see lone players getting far with hijacking other ships. Nor should they. It should ideally be an act that requires time and the coordination of multiple people. If it was something that remained trivial, then there'd never be a point in buying your own ship. Just go jack one for free.

Love shooting them when they are going to EVA.

It is also pointless to take a vending machine back to Olisar, but we do it anyway! :D

Spoilers:

In SC (or SQ42) you're going to get plastic surgery from Triss Merigold.

Sounds like that would be the beginning of SC (which would logically be after the end of SQ42). Going by the content, I'm guessing we're going to be locked to a non-customizable main character for SQ42. Then we'll rebuild ourselves for SC in ME2 style lol. It would give them the benefit of being able to ship SQ42 without having to have the character customization pipeline completely in place. Would make having a set narrative easier as well. Could have anything happen to the MC throughout the campaign without having to worry about how it affects them in regards to SC.

IMO it is before SQ42. At the end they talk about the two options, the first of getting medical discharge (but no citizenship) and the second of joining the academy.

Good catch, but with that in mind, I think it would be before both. An account based character if that gets imported to either. SQ42 isn't required for SC and as such you aren't necessarily a citizen upon starting SC. (Citizenship is supposed to come from the SQ42 campaign or obtaining it later in SC proper.) Having that scene detached from either game leaves them with only having to make one character creation set piece, and the "choice" effectively becomes what game you want to play. As a bonus, technically it would allow them to distribute a character creator to anybody with an account regardless of whether they bought the game.

All true, but I doubt that they'll do a Black Desert, they already seemed unconvinced when that was proposed by somebody.

hah
Anything that looks visually pleasing, on top of being a good mechanic, is alright with me.

Oh, I'm fine with concessions on reality for gameplay purposes. This isn't even really a thing that's outside of reality... The concept of running at higher than normal power or out of rated spec is fine. It's more the appropriation of a term that has a rather specific meaning in the real world. I guess they couldn't be bothered to think up a new term for it when "afterburner" is something the average person understands... Well, understands in an "Afterburner makes you go faster!" perspective. I doubt many know how an afterburner achieves that, or even the first thing about how a turbojet engine works in the first place.

Not that I'm an expert on jet engines / rocket motors / etc. Just know enough that the term clashes in my mind.
