Since my successful pre-order I have been looking at some VR demo trailers to get my self hyped. And then I realized something...

Since VR is blurring the lines of the digital and reality I hope devs put character creation similar to the Mass Effect Series in their games. One of the best experiences in VR was looking at my hands and body in Elite: Dangerous. Depending on the depth of the game it is going to be jarring for me to get really into a VR world and pick up an object with a white males hands. If the game is really character focused this is not big deal (sorta) But if my interaction with the world is simply a mute avatar please don't ruin immersion for the rest of us! Gender choice and skin tone slider can't be that hard to implement!

Sorry for the derail. Maybe I should have started a new thread! :P
Converse to this, in Elite, it is quite an experience to look down and find you have breasts.

So are there any demos or something I should be watching to get hyped for Vive?

Kinda regretting ordering now after hearing Notch's complaints about seated experiences, considering I am mostly getting it for racing and space sims. Also, the launch window seems super barren for games. It doesn't give me much hope that the coolest thing available is called "Job Simulator"

Is anyone else going for all three headsets?

I've got my Oculus and Vive preordered and I'll be getting a PSVR as well.

I'm not a reviewer but I plan to do a simple comparison once I've had enough time with all 3.

The main thing that will hold me up is having to wait on Pascal as I've held off upgrading at all for the past few years in favor of building a new desktop once VR officially launches.

Still looks like orders are open. I would imagine that they would still take orders and ship when ready like oculus.

Weird, when I look it just says:

Notch's comments are so toxic. The reason he said seated was horrible on Vive was because you had to put the sensor in the correct spot after having it in a roomscale configuration. He isn't saying it's a bad seated experience, he's saying you need a sensor in the right spot to have a seated experience.

Strangely, skin colour is not as important to your sense of presence and immersion as you'd think.

Like... if you wore white skin coloured gloves in real life with a realistic texture printed on it, your brain would acclimatize and accept that pretty quickly at the lower level of your cognition, even if at the higher level, you're thinking - whoa.

Hell, your brain can even accept the abstracted blue dots, white lines connecting those dots shape that devices like Leap Motion use to show your hands.

do you know if you can arrange the lighthouses in a wider area but use a smaller area for gaming?

In my home setup, the PC is in a separate alcove which might just about be enough for standing, but is definitely where I'll do any sitting games. But for room scale (small), I'd need to be in the other half of the room. So ideally I'd have the lighthouses set up to cover the overall area.

I don't know if the process is the same since I only messed with DK1, and I assume Pre and the Consumer version might change things up, but yes, you can have the lighthouses much further than the play area. You map out the play area using one of the controllers within the space that the lighthouses can see, and can change it later through the same setup process.

For 60€ shipping I suppose they'll ship from not Europe and there may still be another random% import taxes on top of that? For that price I hope that they'll at least include a nice dinner within the box.

Why are people talking about taxes/customs? Aren't those included?

Don't want to find myself paying a 22% extra for Vat since i'm in IT
They are included in the EU price, don't worry about that.

They seem to be shipping from Ireland.

I am. But thats because I am reviewing them and their content. If I wasn't I am sure I would pare that down to one of the PC headsets and be fine.

Anything from the Hover Junkers team. They're doing a better job promoting the Vive than HTC.

Have you ever tried reaching Digital River customer service on any of the store sites they run, let alone tried to get a refund? They literally are one of the worst companies in America in my opinion and I would not be surprised if people that try to cancel get charged anyway or never even get a response to their requests. As such, I would only preorder if you are 100% sure you want the Vive.

Eh, if you decide you don't want it you will easily be able to resell for $1000+

Notch went on reddit after his tweeting about Oclus and Vive and did mention

I think in the short term I may just use tripods to make them easier to move around.

wait - that can't be right? That sounds terrible.

Surely something that can be fixed in software though? Just draw a space to be your 'room' and then mark another space that is 'this is me sitting down'.

Almost a deal breaker for me if that sticks.

Hover Junkers doesn't appeal, but I might buy it just because the devs have almost single-handedly sold me on a Vive. Or maybe HTC could donate some of the £50 shipping to them as a thankyou.

I also just bought descent on steam, and marked a few other games to follow. I'd like steam to make it a bit easier to find VR compatible games but it is doable.

Looking forward to the launch threads with recommended software. Want a good virtual cinema app, ideally something that'll let me play non-VR games in stereo 3D on a big screen, and also something like that 80's arcade.

This whole VR thing will never get off the ground unless it cost $150-$200. These companies are simply jumping the gun on this and we won't even be talking about it in two years.

Still not sure about PSVR, depends how the exclusive games look.

Hmm, my "order history" doesn't list my order, but I got a confirmation email :/

Same thing happened to me, it seems like the order didn't go under my account, but I can look it up using the order # and password they sent in the confirmation email.

Also it says: "Please note, your password will not be displayed in this email if you did not use Guest Checkout." I did get a password, so I guess the order went through guest checkout.

I was filling my order 5 min after opening then went afk for about an hour before confirming. Then it said sold out, please remove from cart. Tried it again and the order went through. Hope it's all good.

That means the order didn't go through. And now it's too late to order for April shipment because I saw on reddit that people are getting May confirmations.

Just kidding, sorry :) shit, i need to check order history too..

Im sure people said the same about the iPhone price or said how the iPad was just a big iPhone. Let's give it a few years chance before writing it off

Just preordered. Got to admit it hurt a little to hit the submit button.

Still not sure if I'll keep this or order a Rift instead. Earliest I can a get a Rift at this point is July anyway.

But as someone who has never tried VR, I am very excited to try one of them as soon as possible.

That's too brutal. I would cry on the spot if that were me.

Right, I can look up the order using the data supplied in the email.

Whew.

Things get cheaper to make once they start being produced. Starting now means that in 2020 headsets will be cheaper to make than if they waited 4 years to start producing them.

Totes forgot this was today so I'll prob be a month late..

I can't wait to come back to posts like this in a few years time.

Funny part about this quote, is I heard it said 2 years ago almost word for word

You're right. But premium VR with the best and latest tech will have these kinds of prices for many many years to come.

They seem to be shipping from Ireland.

Shipping Country: Ireland
Estimated Shipping with Tax: 75.03 €

Then that is just sad and they get even more ripped off than mainland Europe.
