Yes, that is chip damage.I started trying to block Ryu hadoken's, and Mika puts her arm up, but I still lose a little bit of life bar. Is that normal?

Losing 65LP makes a lot more sense if you lose against someone has less LP/Lower League. Say you're playing a dude with 800LP and you have 1100LP. You lose the match and get deducted 65LP, sure makes sense. Once you hit 1000LP, if you lose to anyone, you get smacked with 65LP deduction. Doesn't matter if the other player has way more LP than you, which kinda sucks.
The problem I have with this is that it's too abrupt and the skill difference between someone with 800 an 1100 LP is likely to be small. That, and there's the consideration that if the 1100 player wins the fight, they will only get 35 LP, but if they lose they lose 66. The risk/reward penalty becomes too big, too fast (AFAIK, ultra bronzes get more than that for beating super bronzes, also a one rank difference), and IMHO it's contributing to the rage quitting problem as well as banking possibly up to 90% of users around the bronze/super bronze boundary.
IMHO there's no point in having so many ranks unless players are going to be well distributed. The Starcraft II distributions that FluxWaveZ posted make a lot of sense: they're a nice curve. At the moment, I suspect SFV's distribution looks like a sharp spike that drops rapidly to an almost flatline.
Yeah I think I'm done with ranked for a while, been playing for about 8 hours and I am literally within 100 LP of where I started with most of my wins being against players who had no idea what they're doing, and my losses mostly against people just straight dominating me because they're clearly way out of Bronze league level. I don't mind losing, but I'm learning virtually nothing from any of these matches, like 80% of them are blowups one way or the other. At least in Casual I won't have to deal with constant Rank Up/Rank Down notifications.
I haven't gotten an air grab to connect a single time on a Bison, believe me I've tried. Back roundhouse works but once they get a single knockdown on me they're usually able to jump in and cross me up at an angle where that's either going to completely whiff or I can't even get it off at all. His jump-ins seem to be my main problem, just get crossed up so easily and I've had Devil's Reverse (?) straight-up beat EX SBK which I don't know how the fuck that works lol.
In general though I think my biggest weakness is just getting crossed up on jump-ins when I've been knocked down.
It's not just you. Crossups are good in this game. Blocking them on wake up is just one of those things that will come with experience as you get acquainted with different jump arcs. Ex SBK loses to a lot of moves that have a downward angled hitbox as well. Go to training mode and look at your options. I think stand short pretty much stuffs almost every jumping button bison has (and probably everyone else's). Crossup devils reverse is only available in V trigger so that's a tell as to when you should look for it.
Yeah it definitely seems that way.One of my friends put it best by saying "When you hit Bronze the game just throws everyone in the same pool and says fuck it."
Yep, there are some pretty bad 1K players and some people at 1.5k that play well enough to be 3k already. The distribution is all sorts of messed up right now.100% this. I just played against a 900 LP player who practically double perfected me and very clearly knew what the hell they were doing. Match before that was a 950 LP Ken who did nothing but push buttons. The pool is way too small right now and it's incredibly frustrating because I don't feel like I'm getting anywhere skill-wise since most matches are just a blowup. One of my friends put it best by saying "When you hit Bronze the game just throws everyone in the same pool and says fuck it."
Alex Valle is currently looking for and accepting sets vs gold level players. Leveluplive twitch channel. Any gold level gaffers want to play Mr. Streetfighter?

Indeeeed. I am Santa clausGifgiving was your true calling :O
Thank youThanks to this thread for bringing up VFrames, great app. I think I'm gonna hold off on playing more ranked until the update drops and lab it up instead.

Oh man, the skin and video turned out amazing! It's so cool seeing 2 of my favorite characters mashed together. I can't handle some of these screens, that expression in the 2nd 4k one... <3

Shit, I'd try my hand if there wasn't an ocean (and then some) between us since it'd be a good learning experience. Connection would probably be way too unstable.Alex Valle is currently looking for and accepting sets vs gold level players. Leveluplive twitch channel. But the ultimate goal for any good match-making is that you always win 50% of your matches, so that sounds like it's working as it should.
Edit: Though being matched against people who are far away from your skill level isn't good, so that should be fixed.
I like the way StarCraft II distributes it:
8% of the players are in Bronze
20% of the players are in SIlver
32% of the players are in Gold
20% of the players are in Plat
18% are in Diamond
2% are in Master
I agree with you that, in SFV, it seems that Bronze has too large of a percentage of the playerbase in it right now.
Why I don't play ranked and never liked it on sf4, the pp system has always been garbage. Takes away the enjoyment from playing the game. So I stick to lobbies but then the lobbies are so terrible in this game because its a guessing game if the room will work or if the player has good bars.. Idk why it can't be a set number, win get 50, lose lose 50, and let it be those numbers forever.
I started trying to block Ryu hadoken's, and Mika puts her arm up, but I still lose a little bit of life bar. Is that normal?
Flux, my internet died for a moment. Can we do one more set?
Of course it's early so some people just haven't played enough to settle where they belong, but there's also flaws in the ranking system since they have account-wide LP instead of character-LP.Yep, there are some pretty bad 1K players and some people at 1.5k that play well enough to be 3k already. The distribution is all sorts of messed up right now.
