What's a good way to cheese Survivor with Cammy? Nash and Necalli always wear me down at the end of Normal and Bison bodies me.
Spam heavy Cannon Spike over and over and over and over. Probably one of the easier survivals because that move has so much invincibility, too.

Yeah I think I'm done with ranked for a while, been playing for about 8 hours and I am literally within 100 LP of where I started with most of my wins being against players who had no idea what they're doing, and my losses mostly against people just straight dominating me because they're clearly way out of Bronze league level. I don't mind losing, but I'm learning virtually nothing from any of these matches, like 80% of them are blowups one way or the other. At least in Casual I won't have to deal with constant Rank Up/Rank Down notifications.

I haven't gotten an air grab to connect a single time on a Bison, believe me I've tried. Back roundhouse works but once they get a single knockdown on me they're usually able to jump in and cross me up at an angle where that's either going to completely whiff or I can't even get it off at all. His jump-ins seem to be my main problem, just get crossed up so easily and I've had Devil's Reverse (?) straight-up beat EX SBK which I don't know how the fuck that works lol.

In general though I think my biggest weakness is just getting crossed up on jump-ins when I've been knocked down.

EX SBK only has invincibility on frames 1-8, EX devil's reverse has 16 frames of invincibility. EX SBK should lose out to EX DR in most cases.

Won a ranked match through a time out. It was against a ken and he wasn't paying attention to the time. Nothing feels better than a victory over legion of kens

Of course it's early so some people just haven't played enough to settle where they belong, but there's also flaws in the ranking system since they have account-wide LP instead of character-LP.

If someone switches characters to someone they're not as good at, their LP is still where it is with their main -- MM is broken. After they play some more with the alt and their LP goes down, if they switch back to their main, the MM is broken again until they earn back their LP.

Capcom has every reason to motivate people to play with many different characters, but this does the opposite -- stupid decision on Capcom's part.

I've been saying the same thing since Street Fighter IV...

Ranking should be based per character, not account.
As it stands currently it discourages experimenting with other characters...

Granted, they'd probably invent stupid trophies like "Get all characters to Gold."
Ugh.

I think deducting points and adding a time out period should be enough. Oh, and give the other player the win each time.

Yeah, this sounds fair. Doesn't completely ruin it for someone who's had a legit connection hiccup. W for the guy who stays on the line is a given in any case.

Amen. Been trying to learn a new character every 2 days and it's been tough holding onto 1k LPs!

Had my best night so far. 4 ranked wins in a row though Im still a rookie. Playing Rashid exclusively and enjoying it. I want to play Zangief next. Any competitive reason I dont see any Zangiefs online? Is he tough to play at a high level?

100% this. I just played against a 900 LP player who practically double perfected me and very clearly knew what the hell they were doing. Match before that was a 950 LP Ken who did nothing but push buttons. The pool is way too small right now and it's incredibly frustrating because I don't feel like I'm getting anywhere skill-wise since most matches are just a blowup. One of my friends put it best by saying "When you hit Bronze the game just throws everyone in the same pool and says fuck it."

I dont know I think the game does a good job balancing the few players.

I fought a super bronze Rashid with 12 victories and the first round was so easy that I though he was a ragequiter, but it wasn't the case.

And I face a 1800 something Cammy that destroyed me like it was nothing.

For now I think I stand in 900-1100. I think the 65 points is to differentiate better and faster better players.

I wish I could understand this V-skills app. No idea what S/A/R mean. I guess a minus on Block is bad.

Oh, and I think the "main character" feature should be for Matches where you don't select a character before Time runs out.

Actually got to Ultra Bronze today. Silver is the next goal, but I'm having fun leveling up in the character matchup experience sense even more so.

I got brave and thought I could rush down a Zangief with Vega. That was fuckin' dumb, lol.

Why don't you learn using Casual?
That's what I've been doing with Laura until I feel confident enough to put LP on the line.

Nothing to lose, and some FM if you win.

Btw a new character every 2 days sounds like a chore! I was thinking of trying someone else each month, or each week at most, but damn. Good luck to ya!

Startup (how long a move takes to come out), active (how long a move is out), recovery (how many frames a move takes to recover).

I see.

Looks like Cammy has jackshit when it comes to Health/Stun, recovery and safe moves. She looks like she's far behind everyone else on stats alone, which baffles me.

Heh I thought the same thing. I still have yet to try a second character!

Yeah been doing that today actually. will move to ranked tomorrow and see how I do...

It takes way to long to find a match. I only had about an hour to play tonight and spent a majority of the time waiting. The vast majority of matches are over so quickly too. Not gonna keep playing this game if it keeps going like this.

I came accross this pretty awesome thing I thought some of you might like; a database for local FGC scenes in the 50 US states and internationally:

www.tinyurl.com/FGCDatabase

Apparently Honzo Gonzo is the one who curates it. Good resource for anyone looking for people to play with offline.

Wow... Just beat a legit silver for the first time. Not sure what I did different than any other time, but that was great.

Edit... And then get crushed by an ultra bronze. Ugh.

Yo ma dudes what can i do against Karin as Ryu. That character is ridiculous everything she does seems safe AKA + on block. Even moves that seems - turns out +. My dudes what you can do against that character? I think that's the character i lose the most to. Her and bison AKA mr. Safe AKA mr. Top tier. Any tips?

GG's Flux, I have quite a bit to type. Not too long, but not short either. That was the most SF4-like set I've ever played in SFV. At first I just wanted to do my regular thing. Zone, anti air, and try to play footsies. But then I kept getting mixed up over and over and then I started becoming afraid of anti-airing with my own DP because that splash would make it whiff. I was so afraid of the command throw that I ended up trying back dash or hold up most of the time. I was getting very frustrated and angry because I would build all these leads and end up losing the round because I didn't know how to block Nadesico. And then I started playing that way, that's why I just went balls out after you.

Another thing, I DP'd a lot. And I mean a hell of a lot. But it was clear that no matter how much I DP'd you weren't going to play scared. So I just tried rushing in harder and harder. And that slide, no matter how many times I punished it, you kept using it. And that was a good thing. I was so focused on that slide that I couldn't focus on countering the drop kick. So once more, that felt so SF4-like. I thought those days gone in SF4 but the way you played Mika made me remember all the shit I hated about SF4(though I actually love the game in my own way).

Wow, my streak from Saturday has been cancelled hardcore. It's one thing to lose, it's another to get straight annihilated. Hurts man ;_;

Capcom should do what RT does and make matches bo3. Games take longer and the better player is more likely to win. Valle also suggested this on Twitter, maybe Capcom will listen.

Ok, after watching Winter Brawl, I realized how sucky my Ken still is. I just look stagnant and lifeless compared to guys like Julio, so I'm just about to give rank a break and play sets and watch replays until I feel I've leveled up somewhat. I know I need to be more mobile and I have to learn the shimmy, I also seem to be using c.mp waay too much. Anyway, could use the critique as I try to up my games. Figured good place to start is here on GAF.

Did you win

We played 4 FT5 sets, it went 2-2. Unless I'm mistaken it went

5-3 Flux
5-2 Me
5-4 Flux(last game, last round, I got a crush counter sweep and fucked up by doing regular fireball instead of EX which could have won me the game. Flux won by time out I think)
5-4 Me

That adds up to 17-16 me, but another set we played ended up being cut short because my internet died. Flux was up 1-0 when that happened. So basically it was dead even. 2-2 in sets and 17-17 in games.

Ha, interesting. I'll need to look back on those matches later on. When you were all up in my grill, I wasn't quite sure what to do except focus on blocking or teching the throws, but I spent too much time doing that so the damage accumulated.

I keep telling myself I need to be using command throws with Mika more. Gotta get accustomed to the set-ups for them.

Edit: And yeah, the matches were pretty much back-and-forth, as he listed above.

After realizing even casual matches 4-5 bars were taking too long, I just started creating lobbies, first to 3 or 5, and I have a constant influx of players.

As I don't really care about rank, LP, or FM and only seek experience, I'm ok with this.

olay Moradin he's a gaffer.

And look at Karin and Bisons frame data to at least become familiar with their unsafe stuff. Then, just have sets with good Karin and Bisons in lounge. I learned that nothing beats experience. Having frame data and a general gameplan is the start though.

I'm not sure about Ryu since his zoning is better, but I know Bison beats shotos, and as Ken I generally want to rush him down. Karin you should be able to play her a bit more versatile.
