But I wasn't mocking his depression, I was legit asking that question. I did apologise since I evidently hit a nerve. I suffer from depression and anxiety myself and do legitimately think he needs help if he's going to resort to internet trolling as his outlet. It's not a good way to go.
I will admit that I am sadly disappointed in him though.
The industry is run by suits who are more afraid of losing customers than they are of losing integrity. They're hoping that by ignoring the problem it will just go away. Clearly, that's not working (and when does it ever?).

I was serious when I voted gamergate as the biggest failure in games for a second year in a row. This stuff is, by far, the most important and damaging thing happening in the industry. It's far beyond the games themselves.
It's hard to even decide what the worst part is. Is it that all of the attacks are thinly veiled hatred for tattoos, progressive attitudes, localization differences, etc.? Is it that they go after some seriously *amazing* voices in this industry, attempting to contort them into villains?
Rapp has been incredible voice for all sorts of positive discussion on Twitter. Body shaming, self care, acceptance and openly loving others, women's rights, and onward. She is participating in great, important subjects and provides a positive message. You can see how she is pretty much the *perfect* target for those who fear progressive opinions stamping out their old conservative ways.

At this point I'm more surprised when someone who jumps right on a GG endorsed hate train isn't a disingenuous lying asshole.
They have a track record with not understanding academia as well.
They still like to pass around the lie that Tauriq Moosa wants to fuck his sister or corpses because of papers he wrote over the morality of incest and necrophilia.

So they're targeting a Treehouse employee, Alison Rapp, whose actual job does not involve localization.
They are attacking her using her graduate thesis, which actually spoke out AGAINST western nations imposing there ideals on Japan.

They've attacked the odd man. But their actual campaigns to hurt people have focused on women.
They tend to find someone to hate for a flimsy reason first, then dig and dig until they find something they can spin into a narrative to sell to other people.
What is up with all the wealthy men recently "coming out" as anti-pc anyway? I half expect them all to form some sort of alliance some day. A Super Gamergate.

I think it's important to identify a pattern. Totally get what people are saying that they attack "random" women, but there's nothing random about these targets in my eyes. They always represent progressive values. And, as you can surely guess, progress is fucking scary to a huge swath of people who will be left behind if they don't adapt.
In my opinion, it takes courage to represent new ideas and give a voice to those who barely have one; feminism, healthy body image, mental disabilities, etc. Conversely, it is cowardly to hide behind some false stories (and often also anonymity) to try and defame these same people.
Why am I not surprised?

GamerGate as a movement has never been about PC culture or anticensorhip considering their prime attack strategy consists on censoring and in this case attacking someone for doing a nonPC paper. It's not ironic either, it's just a movement showing its true colors.
What's the "other side" doing in this case? We talk about issues without resorting to harrasment. Being "neutral" to the situation would mean you don't really have a stance on censoring people and harrasing them.

Not sure whats progressive, she just comes off as someone who really likes Japan and defends things that a lot of westerners wouldn't. Like what is progressive about censoring a game or conversely, wanting Japans lax laws regarding cp to continue?

I don't think GG is about interfering with progressive ideas. I think it's more about pure hate against everything that rejected the losers involved in GG. They're sort of an internet version of mass shooters.
They hate women because it's obvious they are rejected by them. Women obviously rejected those people. GG hate women because the more women are free the more they are rejected.
They hate gays, minorities and disables because society accepts them but still rejects GG's people.
GG's people happen to have found confort in videogames. When people they hate are involved in videogames they go grazy mad. Pure hate and pure envy. Fucking scary.

You are only seeing her most recent tweets. For a long time now she has been speaking about progressive ideas. Again, stuff like feminist concepts, body image, open love (talks about polyamory and more), sexuality, and acceptance attitudes in general. Throw a dart at any one of those and you're going to find frightened conservative types itching to take you down some day.

So I don't see any reason the sex trafficking org wouldn't want her to be fired given the thesis. It's pretty contrary to their stated goals, and I do think that "our employee argues for reducing penalties on child pornography" is a look plenty wouldn't want.
I don't get how this really ties into the GamerGate stuff at all since it seems like it's an issue they'd align with given their love of Japanese creep stuff, but I've sort of resigned myself to their motives and actions being contradictory and self-defeating most of the time.
