No Man's Sky pre-orders start March 3rd, $59.99

That kind of proves my point, though.

I agree with you. I was just saying why a lot of people automatically assume indie = cheap. The Witness is the first indie game I paid more than $20 for and I found it to be worth it.

Wow, really? You haven't played stuff like Soma or Prison Architect?

Day one for me. I hope there's VR support with launch. I'm really excited to give this a shot.

Now I need to go back and read through this thread and see all the bitching about the game's pricing.

Too bad (for the science-factor) that NMS is quite stylised and doesnt feature realistic sized planets and systems and stuff.

Asides from planet size which is a big unknown asides from 'taking weeks to walk around' there is a fair bit of science. Planets spin and orbit correctly within a functioning solar system and they look relatively accurate for the type of star, distance and composition of atmosphere and land.

The lack of gas giants etc. Is a bit more of a downer though, they could have been awesome to fly through for rare materials while avoiding being crushed.

It has to be

Preorders on March 3rd with GDC around the corner?

I think I paid over $20 for Minecraft a few years ago.

Worth every penny. The emergent gameplay and survival aspect were just too compelling.

I remember a time where video games costing $60 was a bargain (looking at you SNES days), and even then that figure isn't the same value it is today after inflation. So for people to bitch about a game with endless hours of entertainment, albiet might not be the type of entertainment for everyone, for costing 60 US Dollars in the year 2016 is just baffling. I can't think of the justification as to what makes people feel entitled that a game is "worth" a certain amount. Just don't buy it I guess.

I've played a lot of indie games (my Steam library can confirm I've at least tried a few hundred of them). I typically find them to be great ideas behind mediocre games. There's definitely some fine exceptions. But a lot of indie games do feel less of an experience than a AAA game.

I, again, don't think this is the case for every game. Soma is an amazing game. Layers of Fear, which I bought recently too, is a game I regret buying because it feels very gimmicky and cheap.

I support good games!

I'm slightly concerned about the UK price now. $60 Digital usually means £50 on the UK PSN store. I really want to play No Man's Sky, but there's no way I'm paying that much at release. I was expecting it to be £30 or less.

I wouldn't mind paying 60 bucks if it's a great game. Am I going to blindly pre-order? No, I rarely do. I will definitely wait for impressions and reactions, trailers looked ace though.

Any game can be branded "endless" hours of entertainment, it's just depends on how much one can repeat the same activities and still reap enjoyment. I'm not making any inferences to NMS's content, only your post.

On mobile but Amazon just updated the date to June 21st. Anyone else seen this?

Yup. My "physical copy" shows this.

I keep reading articles and listening to podcasts saying it's only a matter of time until this is announced for the MOrpheus. It;s a shoe in.

Really? Look at all the VR games running on Morpheus. Very static and basic. Seems obvious to me NMS could never run on it, which is why they never announced it, and never will.

Sure, but how does that fault a game's worth? Whether the enjoyment factor is 10 minutes, 1 hour, or 100 hours, is that how you correlate it's price? What's the exchange rate of time spent of enjoyment per dollar? I don't mean to sound petty in response to your question, sorry if it came off that way. I guess my argument was lost in that one specific quote, but my main point was I don't see the logic in how people felt entitled to brand a game worth a certain amount, and get upset when it's more than they want it to be; sure they are entitled in ithe sense that they can not spend a dime on it. If you want something, you pay the money it's worth because it's how you value it.

A surge of anger rushes through me every time I see people complaining about the price of a game prior to release.

Doesnt matter

Its a useless distinction to make

Let the market decide. Im certainly going to wait for reviews and impressions before i dive in

If this is a VR game though.... whew

You clearly and explicitly stated you didn't understand how people could "bitch" about a game with "endless" hours of gameplay. My point is by that logic, any video game ever made provides countless hours of gameplay. I'm not complaining about nor defending NMS's price, but don't be obtuse when it comes to others' perception of value. It has always been and always will be subjective when it comes to this medium.

And now in your response you're doing time to value math equations. Please stop.

Because some people are questioning if the content (what we know of it) is worth that price.

How is this fair as a thread title? .... Like... Isn't this purposely diswaying buyers by disingenuously adding the price so those can question the value of the game? This is highly fucked up. Quantum Break threads don't have the price in them? So why does this one?

Because no one suspected that Quantum Break would be anything other than $60. That definitely wasn't the case for this game. If Quantum Break didn't cost $60 then you'd probably see its price in a thread title as well.

Oh my god this is hilarious. Posting the price of a game is now a "disingenuous" attempt to dissuade buyers. I've seen everything.

Quantum Break threads don't have the price in them probably because OP decided not to put the price on them. You're a GAF member too, you can make a QB thread with the price in it if you want, there's no protocol being followed here.

People expect QB to be $60. Some had no idea what to expect with this. The Witness thread was similar

isnt Valkyrie launching with it?

I agree though, a game incepted without VR is unlikely to support it. They could have delayed NMS to support it though.

I... huh???

People are going to talk about the price, and there was a lot of discussion already before this thread even.

What a strange complaint. And we're in a No Man's Sky thread even LOL

I mean, to be fair, there were a lot of folks that did expect a $60 price for this game. I included. Sony has said for a long time that they plan to position this game as AAA. To me, that comes with a AAA price.

I didn't say no one expected it to be $60. As you said, there was a lot of discussion around it. I thought it was very possible that it could have been $40 myself.

TIL posting the price of a game in a thread about pre-ordering said game is disingenuous.

"How dare you post facts. Don't you know facts can sway people's opinions?"

Just wow.

I can't find it on Amazon.com

Yeah neither can I. In fact all that shows up is a page for NMS "Digital Code" as well as it being currently unavailable.

I might get this but not before reviews hit. The game hasn't convinced me it's fun to play

I think a lot of people are in the same boat. The cool thing is that you could spend an entire year just watching LPs of this game, wait for a price drop, and then if you decide to pull the trigger you'll still be exploring places in the shared universe that none of us will ever get to see.

I'm not against a $60 price for a game like this, but I would like to know a little bit more about the game. Like an hour-long unscripted playthrough I could skim through. And maybe some mid-late game footage.
