Rogue One won't be the biggest. Disney is overestimating how much people care about Star Wars.

1. BvS
2. Civil War
3. Rogue One

After TFA I don't think they are. Especially when the franchise's most recognisable character will be all over the merchandise and marketing for Rogue One combined with all that goodwill after TFA.

Which film will be the highest grossing at the box office?

If we're talking worldwide, I'd say Rogue One > BvS > Civil War
BvS will pull in a ton of money overseas and will probably outperform Rogue one and Civil War in China and Japan. Rogue One will win domestic by riding off the success and goodwill of TFA and that rumor.

Which film will receive the highest critical acclaim?

I'm gonna go with Rogue One > Civil War > BvS
This is the one I'm actually most torn on, mostly because so much about Rogue One is still unknown. I actually think Civil War and BvS will settle around the same place, depending on weather the writing team for CW were in a Winter Soldier or a Dark World/First Avenger mood.

If they were all released on the same day, which would you go see first?

BvS > Rogue One > Civil War
BvS is a wild card for me. With Terrio taking over on writing and wondering how they're going to put it all together, it has the most potential out of all three for me.

Which film will be the best received by GAF?

Rogue One > Civil War > BvS

Step into any BvS thread and you'll see why I think it'll be in last. I've got a good feeling about Rogue One and I'm not sure why...

I'm going for Civil War for all of these, especially if Faraci is right.

I've had the luck to speak to a couple of people who have seen recent screenings of Civil War and what they said about it has gotten me so excited for the film. I'm even more excited because these reactions are from different people but what they liked is very similar. When you're hearing early reports from screenings you have to take taste into account - I will never forget that a publicist told me that Zodiac was a stinker - but when you have multiple sources sharing the same opinion you can feel more secure in what they're saying.

What are they saying? That the movie is fully a sequel to The Winter Soldier. I've been telling you this for a while, but now that the film is finished it seems to be confirmed - this isn't Avengers 2.5, but rather Captain America 3, and it truly focuses on Cap and Bucky. I have been told that Spider-Man is great, and that the film doesn't waste time on retelling his origin. We all get it, and the movie just moves along. I've been told that Black Panther is phenomenal, and that Chadwick Boseman is a major addition to the MCU. This movie picks up the pieces of Avengers: Age of Ultron in surprising and human ways and makes us feel the true cost of Sokovia. And I've been told that the last half hour of the film is brutal, both physically and emotionally. One person told me that the last act plays out as an emotional horror movie because the film gives both Tony and Steve solid reasoning, and because it truly makes you feel the depths of this schism.

Rogue One

Definitely not Batman v Superman. I have a feeling it'll be Civil War.

Rogue One is honestly a real wild card, hard to say where it lands in terms of reception with the director it has. The Star Wars tag will probably be enough to propel it to numero uno.

I expect gross wise to be Rogue One > BVS > Captain MURICA.

Which film will be the highest grossing at the box office?
Rogue One, Star Wars power

Which film will receive the highest critical acclaim?
Civil War, if its really as good(if not better) than Winter Soldier like the early reactions say

If they were all released on the same day, which would you go see first?
Civil War, not just cuz it'll probably be the best, but its got the most to potentially spoil. Rogue One is ultimately a prequel to ANH I kinda expect them all to die or some shit, and BvS I mean they gave that away in the marketing

Which film will be the best received by GAF?
Not Batman vs Superman

My heart says Rogue One but I can see Civil War giving it a run. Not sure how Star Wars spin-offs would do. I don't see BvS exploding.

What were the answers to the last thread's questions?

Which film will be the highest grossing at the box office?
Batman v Superman
2 heavyweight brands in the title. Some might not even know what Rogue One is. What? So it's not a Star Wars? A separate film? When can I see Luke and Han again?

Which film will receive the highest critical acclaim?
Civil War. Star Wars was hyped through the roof and received as a great comeback for the franchise. You can't do that twice. Rogue One will either be too different, or too much the same.

If they were all released on the same day, which would you go see first?
Difficult one. I assume BvS will disappoint me and would love to see that trainwreck of a movie. Feel very positive about Civil War, yet the mystique of Rogue One is kinda of a dark horse in the race. Depends on it's trailers. right now:
Civil War > BvS

Which film will be the best received by GAF?
Rogue One. Considering the love shown for TFA, which is kind of a turd, I have no doubt about it.

I don't think people want a Star Wars film every year, and Disney seem to be betting on that.

Based on what exactly? There has never been a spin-off before so no one knows how well it will do in relation to TFA, but SW is mega popular right now so it's bound to make a lot. Did we know how many Marvel movies people wanted after Iron Man? I'm sure as shit no-one was expecting 2 per year back then.

Remember they haven't even released a trailer yet.

It's not like Star Wars isn't in the title though. They're going to make sure people know it's a Star Wars film.

From the toy leaks, it also seems Darth Vader will be quite prominent in the marketing and hopefully the film. I'm speaking personally here, but Darth Vader IS Star Wars.

I honestly think this is a really tough one to call. I think watching Batman and Superman fight is going to be a huge draw for a lot of people, and so far Warner's marketing has been consistently excellent (bar the second trailer). Civil War will be the better film but the only MCU movies that have broken a billion have been Avengers 1, 2 and IM3. I know Iron Man is prominently in this and the marketing has been great, but I'm not sure people care about Cap enough to lift it over a billion dollars at the box office, even if Winter Soldier was arguably the best MCU film. I think Rogue One will do really well and we'll no doubt be swamped in marketing again by the end of the year, but being a spin-off I don't see its box office performance coming close to The Force Awakens. That being said, I can see all three films being of very high-quality and all of them possibly making over a billion, and the order listed above may change depending on what mood I'm in.

Which film will receive the highest critical acclaim?

I think Rogue One is going to have a different feel to the other Star Wars films, and if it's sufficiently individual while still retaining the feel of SW I think fans and critics will lap it up.

Which film will be the best received by GAF?
- I think this will be a close call between RO and CW, but I can see RO just edging it provided it's a fun fast space adventure. It'll be nice to have a Star Wars film not focused on Jedi for once.

Sorry, Civil War.

It is hard to say for Rogue One. It is the first spin off, can really land anywhere between decent performing to showering with money.

Highest grossing:
Rouge One>Civil War>BvS

Best reviews:
Civil War>Rogue One>>BvS

I'd see first:
Rogue One>>Civil War>>>BvS

Gaf reaction:
Rogue One>>Civil War>>>>>>BvS

I'll see all three opening night.

I almost feel like Civil War could take it, seeing as it's basically an Avengers movie in all but name. Going with Rogue One as the safe bet, though.

I've never even heard of Rogue One until now. Weird.
But it's Star Wars, so it'll make all the money. Doesn't matter if it's good or not.

I do think it's possible (likely) that all three end up in the top 10-15 all time at the box office.

I mean, just last year JW, TFA, and AoU all got in the top 7.

and you're missing Furious 7. 2016 will add probably another 3 films to the all time list and theres gonna be a couple of wildcards.

The momentum for Rogue One will pick up as the year goes on and marketing steps up, I would imagine they'll make it abundantly clear that it's THE STAR WARS. I think it will gross more than BvS however I hope BvS grossest mostest just for the reactions here.

Ah, forgot that one. Thanks!

Yea I'm not sure if 2015 was an anamoly or just a combination of ticket prices, more interest in movies, higher populations etc. but I'd guess the latter. The box office charts are going to look WAY different a few years from now.

In most cases, I believe its China. Yeah theres pretty much gonna be a shakeup every year now.

Civil War will gross the most followed by batman vs superman followed by Rogue One, Civil war will review the best, I think it's really up in the air regarding how batman vs superman will review but if it reviews are really good for it than it will gross over a billion.

Rogue One will do very good but not as good as either of the other movies and I would go see civil war first if they were released same day.

If Rogue One was Episode 8 I could understand thinking it was going to be on top but I don't think so. It's a spin off story and a prequel as well. I think people are overpraising just how well it might do. It will still do really well but I think some are in for a surprise in regard to it.

Well, I think it's pretty likely that Darth Vader is going to be all over the marketing for this movie, which will have a huge boost, and it's coming right off of TFA. Everyone is high on Star Wars-love right now. It could absolutely have an Iron Man 3 affect, which was a film that grossed absurdly more than it's predecessors because it came right off of The Avengers.

---

My predictions is that:

1. Rogue One is in the lead. With a 1.1-1.4 Billion gross.
2. Batman V Superman is the runner up, with 1.0-1.2 Billion Gross.
3. Civil War takes third, with a 800 Mil - 1.0 Billion Gross.

Also, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them should probably be in this conversation. Although, being a spin-off, and a few years removed from mainline HP films, I would see it doing closer to 500-700 Mil.

EDIT: These numbers are WW, for clarification.

It's fascinating these three movies.

They are within franchises and some are even sequels, but I feel like so many factors at play hard to gauge success on what the most recent film(s) have done.

Like Captain America: Civil War. Will it play like a sequel to The First Avenger/The Winter Soldier? If that's the case, it may... may struggle to crack a billion.

Or does it play like a sequel to Age of Ultron/an Avengers movie then it should have no problem cracking a billion.

Does Batman v Superman play like a sequel to Man of Steel... then a billion isn't guaranteed. Does it play like a solo Bat-film. A billion is within reason, but not much more. Or does it play like an "event" film with two of the biggest icons in pop-culture?

Rogue One is the first ever Star Wars spin-off. I'm sure the Star Wars brand will carry it well, but does it come close to The Force Awakens?

Well that said, gonna do my best to make some picks

Which film will be the highest grossing at the box office?
I'm gonna go out on a limb and predict... Batman v Superman
BvS>Rogue One>Civil War

Which film will receive the highest critical acclaim? Civil War

If they were all released on the same day, which would you go see first? BvS

I think the film will play as the former, but will be marketed as the latter. I think the floor on Civil War is Iron Man 3 numbers.

Uh... Batman v Superman

Marketing is in overdrive and its kicking out the summer blockbuster wave. Plus Superman and Batman have the most visibility with general audiences despite Marvel killing shit.

I don't want to underestimate Star Wars fever but I think Superheroes take it in a battle with a spinoff side story

Which film will receive the highest critical acclaim?

Civil War

Gonna be an extremely tight knit story with a lot of conflict among the marvel camp. Plus Russo Bros heading this one with the good will of Winter Soldier. Its going to be an awesome parallel to the happy go lucky Marvel stories

If they were all released on the same day, which would you go see first?

Civil War

I need to see who is getting whacked. A lot of heroes to balance in Marvels lineup, somebody gotta go

Which film will be the best received by GAF?

Civil War

I want to say Star Wars because the premise is intriguing but Ill stick with Civil War

Civil War
Days of Future Past
Rouge One
Batman V Superman

In that order.
I will see them all on opening night though.

Highest grossing? Rogue One - we've been through this before - it's STAR WARS!

Highest critical acclaim? I'll say Civil War right now, only because we know nothing about Rogue One

Which would I go see first? Star Wars

GAF's favorite? BvS
