True, that's a little outlandish. It just didn't look impressive at all. I am no big fan of Ghostbusters, but I did watch the first one several months ago and was surprised by how good it still looks. It has a very charming look, like some of it has aged, but it all still comes together to be very cohesive. This reminds me of the Total Recall and RoboCop remakes.

Yup. I've never thought Melissa McCarthy was funny. I'm still in the boat that there was no need for another film unless it was with the original cast. Since Murray didn't want to do it and then Ramis died, the property should've been put to rest.

Well, that's the case in the originals too, though Winston is basically just some guy that comes in looking for a job and is not played over-stereotypically for an 80s movie.

Eh, I wouldn't call Winston "street smart" in the original Ghostbusters. He certainly was not just a token black man as I see a lot of people stating. He was the voice of reason. He was just a working man doing a job with three incredibly eccentric academics. If you replaced the character of Winston with any other ethnicity I don't think you would have to change one iota of the character (unless I am forgetting something). Whereas the new "winston" character is coming across a bit stereotypical in the trailer. Yes, Winston was not a PhD like the other three, but he never felt out of place or came across stupid compared to them either.

But yeah jokes fell flat for me, too much of that "Explain the shit out of every joke" big budget comedies have been going for lately. Can't say much for the charisma between cast members from a trailer...

Ah, gotcha. Yeah, Aykroyd/Ramis Ghostbusters was their original creation.

But that other cartoon series was still a quick cash grab reaction to the movie based cartoon series.

Now I await for Filmation to come back from the dead to create a new cartoon series with an all female cast to continue their Ghost Busters series.

first, they immediately went with trying to emulate the JW marketing by playing fucking Who You Gonna Call, which is boombastic song in its right, on a fucking piano (that's not how you play up a boombastic song that has the tone of a mic drop. It's the thing you roll in at the end for maximum "we're back, bitches" effect. You have to be tone-deaf to not realize that).
Then, it shows the weirdest awkward cut between CG and practical effect (the vomit) as if it's an action movie.
And then it shows us "jokes" that don't work at all. If this, Nomedy: The Movie, is literally the best your movie has to offer, start writing that fucker down on the finances, because this shit is going to bomb harder than Fantastic Four 2015 (though I suppose Gods of Egypt would be the more current analogy). Jesus Christ, how do you miss the point of a prop comedy by so fucking much?

btw, it had Slimer in it too for maximum nostalgia (as if JW wasn't infuriating enough on that end).They literally just remade the first movie, including that long-legs guy. Why? Who wants a movie that adds nothing? I.... what the fucking hell. And I thought Max Landis's pitch was bad. pfffff

Yes, sorry, I simplified that. What I mean is: somebody (something?) is "creating a device" that's bringing out more ghosts that usual, so I'm assuming there's going to be a final showdown... against a human (device built by human?). Which would suck. Hopefully it's a more powerful ghost and/or entity (like Gozer or Viggo) and not a regular human.

This. I'm not liking people minimizing Winston. He was the best ghostbuster imo. His scene in the car with Akroyd was also the best dialog in the first movie.

The only time they even referenced his skin colour was when he told the mayor "i've seen shit that will turn you white!"

He was just another cast member, his race was irrelevant, it seems the reboots gon straight to the ABC stereotype book for Leslie's character, i wouldn't be surprised if they didn't have her going on about weaves, eating KFC and hating the man and every other racist stereotype they could throw out there!

I mean as MrCunnihgam points out his role was meant to be bigger co staring role(albeit with a different actor) where race was not even a topic of humour and never meant as any sort of caricature, it was intended to be a positive role with regards to race.
The curtailed role unintentionally looked bad and like he was a token black as the character was rewritten, never having the impact intended.

Winston was originally planned to have a much larger role in the original movie because they were banking on Eddie Murphy taking the role. Eddie Murphy had huge name recognition at that period in time, and his character would have been there from the start and not shoved into the second half of the movie. But Eddie Murphy wasn't interested in ensemble cast roles, and he was looking to push himself further into leading role territory with movies like Beverly Hills Cop.

They went with a retaliative unknown actor with Ernie Hudson (I guess they also wanted someone that was an outsider to their group to make it feel more authentic) so they could focus on Murray, Ramis and Akroyd for the first half of the movie. Ernie Hudson wasn't even part of the early press releases for Ghostbusters and was absent from the pre-release movie posters just because he was such an unknown. Though to make up for this, I think Akroyd made Winston one of the first Ghostbusters you see on screen in Ghostbusters 2.

The only really bad part about Ghostbusters 2 is the climax. It kind of just ends.

Overall, I think it's actually funnier than the first one.

Do feel that a couple of the jokes they should in the trailer were so close to retreads (the beginning of the trailer is really close to the library of the first movie, the car being a hearse) of the jokes in the first one that I don't know if it is just nostalgia pushing me to want to see it, or that I actually am interested in it.

Gotta agree with this bit too. The black lady just seemed to be a checklist of token black character stereotype. Granted, Hudson's character from the original was kinda like that too (emphasis on "kinda"), but the movie was made in the 80s and it also wasn't really as obvious.

So to not only see it in today's day and age with the new female black character, but also done with in a very unsubtle manner ("the power of Christ compels you" bit, really?) is rather jarring to say the least.

Dont know anything about the cast so I had no preconceived notions of them but those jokes just werent funny. The sarcastic dry humor of the original was hilarious. Now it's just "lol my hat is funny."

Every part with tech and ghosts in the trailer looked totally awesome and my hype started rising. Then whenever somebody told a joke it dropped like a rock.

Goofy, broad, exaggerated sense of humor. Not subtle or wry at all. Not my thing.

I liked it.

It was better than I originally expected. I'm glad they downplayed Melissa McCarthy's kind of out there style of comedy. The comedy isn't the same as the first films, but I understand that, that kind of funny wouldn't really do well in this age. Things don't seem to be over the top, and I quite like that.

Eh, most of the comedy kinda lost a bit of its edge. There is great stuff in Ghostbusters II, and I actually think some of the imagery is actually more unsettling, which is rad. But the repeated structure "plus a baby!" hurts it a bit. Still enjoyable though.
