Tone is right, Kate McKinnon is amazing in every scene she's in, and Leslie Jones character is actually proactive and more useful that Winston. I dig it.

Does not look good...looks like an also ran reboot where they try to hit all the same lines but in a slicker, faster presentation. Why bother.

Also it seems this will be a rallying cry for certain publications

A guide to telling your family if they disagree with this movie they are sexist

EDIT: And don't forget this is Sony so this thing will be touched so much in post production by execs it will be even worse.

That looked absolutely horrendous. As much as i enjoy watching McCarthy and Wiig, i did not feel this one at all. I got the feeling we were watching 4 women trying to "play" Ghostbusters. Also, the entire tone and look seemed way too saturated...kinda made it look like a Brett Ratner film..ugh.

Good lord that Verge article...

Spy would have been just as funny without the stuff that made it an R film

To each their own and on that one you might be right. Most shit R I dont think should be R anyway. McCarthy with her potty mouth cracks me up. And Bill Murray was the king of sarcasm and wit, McCarthy and her potty mouth is kind of a spin of on that but its not the same clean. Bill Murray could pull it clean but she works better with the profanity

Someone posted this on facebook regarding the trailer and I completely agree:

""I may actually have been in tears about this... like, holy shit guys.
Actual women, being nerdy and awesome. Not sex objects, not classically beautiful, they are not meant to appeal to men. They are smart, geeky, nerds, flawed and human, not at all the "strong woman" stereotype. And they are heroes in a sci-fi movie where batshit crazy happens.
Even if they'd made it an exact copy of the original it would still be completely groundbreaking.""

It's just a bad trailer, I think. I really think it's trying to appeal to people who wouldn't typically be interested in a Ghostbusters movie.

I was kind of ambivalent about this movie until I saw the trailer.

I'm down. That looks like a lot of fun. I mean, I grew up on the Ghostbusters, so I was going to see it either way, but I'm now excited to see it as soon as possible.

Lucille Ball broke that barrier a long long time ago, lets not give a Ghost Busters remake too much credit.

a redband trailer for a pg-13 movie? so like the only two utterances of "shit" in the entire movie and *maybe* a "fuck"? cursing won't save this trailer.

A red band trailer that can be played in front of rated R movies, or horror movies... I don't see why not?

You want to be scared and watch ghost movies, cool, you get this movie trailer about ghosts too.

For the record, it looks like Leslie is playing herself, which isn't at all a negative for me. She's super proud of her persona and it's part of the reason I love her so much. It may look like a stereotype to people who don't watch her on SNL but that's just Leslie. Personally I thinks she's hilarious!

And also it sort of isn't true when two of the actresses are classically beautiful

It doesn't look "horrendous" as some have said nor does it look "amazing." I'm not sure what about this would be considered amazing in any sense. The jokes were bad, REALLY bad, but I actually liked the visuals/how the ghosts looked.

Won't be seeing it in theaters.

Certain parts of that Verge article....

if this is the tone I can expect in return when discussing how the movie feels very lukewarm and middling in terms of quality I might not bother. That's seriously insulting.

I want to believe. But that last scene in the trailer was legitimately terrible. It'd have to play out in an entirely different context for me to like it, and the ghost vomiting slime at the beginning is like my worst fears about this movie coming true.

I'm still going to give it a shot, on the off-chance that the movie is a lot different than the voice of the trailer.

I liked the trailer for a second but the jokes (esp the end) fell really flat for me. It looks super generic, shit CGI, whatever comedy.

But wow looking through Twitter and seeing shit like this

"only people in feed who're 'meh" on Ghostbusters trailer are men; welcome to the sensation of a film that makes no effort to cater to you"

and

"men responding to last tweet w/"but the trailer just didn't excite me" — again, welcome to a piece of media not catering to you"

Like uh, what? Are we dismissing generic comedy reboots just because of a female main cast? I don't know why those tweets irritated me so much. It's Sony pictures for goddsakes. I had the same reaction (a worse reaction) to the goosebumps trailers.

Have you been around since this was announced?

Wow, I am not feeling this one. The comedic timing is awful.
I had my hopes but this seems to be worse than I feared.

Look, the movie looks fucking great. Did you miss the part where someone was wearing a silly hat? Or the joke about a machine being hot to the touch?

Then why are they making a Ghostbusters movie? I don't have a problem with this movie existing I just wish they would have made a clean break and made something different even if it was transparently inspired by Ghostbusters. The movie name-recognition reboot culture in Hollywood really bums me out.

Reading some of these replies, some are going to be super gung-ho into it just because it's 4 women and ignore whether it's good or not.

Like....it doesn't look like it'll be Jupiter Ascending shittiness, it looked average, but some are acting like that trailer = 10/10 movie.

The trailer was average to bad, depending on how much you like neon (neon didn't bother me).

Have you been around since this was announced?

Not particularly. I remember a thread about some fan who was trying to boycott it...?

I mean, I have no nostalgia for the old movies. I caught them on IFC a few weeks ago and I thought they were alright.

This just looks like a slightly better Goosebumps/Pixels. Like, I'll watch it on Netflix but I probably wouldn't pay for it

I've said this a few times now but man, Leslie Jones is all kinds of terrible.

The trailer wasn't very good and the footage was at best okay but Leslie Jones was the only downright bad thing.

Ghost effects look cool, though.

At least two of those people were attractive. The one girl (the "best at physics"? one?) was basically just the attractive one in the trailer.
