This is where your nation's thirst for irony and comedy gets you. 2016 Hitler is in the running for US president. Hilarious.

This shit stopped being funny six months ago but you kept waiting for a punchline. fuck

The fuck? When someone says that it's to mock the people who think that way and to point out how dangerous that mentality is, given what's been transpiring. How do you interpret that post to be something to laugh at? People can be called out on their stupidity by pointing to the irony or the fallacy, which is what he did.

The poster was clearly being critical of the actual people who think it would be funny to vote Trump in.

It happens at pretty much every trump rally

Basically if you're not white, don't go unless you feel like getting roughed up or verbally abused

Trump actually watches it happen and encourages the violence

Yes he does, and this is the most heinous part of the story to me. A fucking Presidential candidate is not only completely fine with open racism but actively supports it even when it is right in front of him. And voters are supporting this man!!!!!!????!! o_O

Sometimes I truly hate my country. It just pisses me off.

"so many Sanders faithful"

It's pathetic that this lie is repeated so often.

Hmm... It's been seen more than a few times. I'm sure a lot of the Sanders voters are sane rational human beings who will use their vote wisely regardless of the DEM nominee...

But there are some who aren't sane or rational, going by their potential future voting. :-/

I like to think those loud minority supporters also over lap with those that stay home.

Not sure why that cunty jab at Bernie supporters was necessary.

But yeah, this shit is pretty ridiculous. I've been wondering if any black people were getting thrown out of Trump rallies out of paranoia they would protest.

With every passing day I'm literally... literally, hoping this moron Trump doesn't win in November. It's amazing how he's made people comfortable with their inner racism all over again.

Really hoping Clinton pulls through in the end, I doubt the vast majority of Americans are genuinely stupid enough to vote that ass hat in.

Felt the same. But then again, it's not like we haven't had a pretty significant amount of Bernie supporters on GAF lately say this exact sentiment. Making the rest of us Bernie supporters look bad so, yeah, call them out.

dave is ok

I think it's mostly Hillary supporters confused as to why independents aren't loyal democrats.

I don't think Bernie supporters are going to vote Trump in large numbers, but I don't think they'll vote Hillary either. Jill Stein will probably see some votes from them.

I think that the media is largely to blame for a lot of what is happening. They are glorifying poor behavior at these rallies and pushing it off as the candidates faults. So tired of watching the news and hearing piss poor reporting that seems to go away from the standard and instead tries to invoke fear and hatred in the people by reporting more and more opinion stories and trying to pass them off as real.

Sorry, but you clearly have not been following these threads on GAF. I can't speak about Bernie fans in general, but there are more than a few on this board who have very vocally promised to pivot to Donald Trump.

What surprises me is just how blatant it is really. Even the european far right don't try to venture too far behind the veil of national security. Donald trump and his supporter gladly steps out of it.

Thanks for being honest at least. I've seen it plenty, and it scary shit..

Unless you're a Bernie supporter who has that train of thought, I don't see why you would get offended. I'm pretty sure that comment was directed at those particular people because it hasn't really been observed with those claiming to want to vote for Hillary. If it was prevalent amongst other supporters, I'm sure they would be called out as well.

I've been hearing people say that they'd rather have Trump in there than Hillary. It's really stupid to switch though, just vote for Sanders. If it ends up being Trump vs Hillary then vote trump.

Agreed, and a lot of it is a copy cat mentality by the people at these rallies. Again.. with social media being as big as it is and the fact that the news would rather report chaos than something worth watching... I fear it will only get worse.

You are not sure why people who have pledged to support a racist need to be called out in a thread detailing the very racism in question? It shouldn't be hard to figure out.

Think about it for a second.

I know he was being sarcastic, I was commenting on what happened generally since last year. People ignoring the danger, and just focusing on how ridiculous the situation is. I was probably not clear enough, so fair point. We're on the same side on this man.

I've been following, and there are a small number of people, many of whom identify as independents. Regardless, the shitty shot in the OP was uneccessary, and the regular hilldawg versus the sandernistas derail is hereby canceled. Understood?

In some ways I find it a little relieving. Like cool, make it easier to point these type of people out. Y'all used code words in the last election, but now we know how you really feel.

People make the "moving to Canada" threat every political cycle. I saw it in 2004 from Dems, 2008 from Dems before President Obama won and Republicans after, and from Republicans in 2012. But honestly...yeah, I really get why someone would want to get away from a Trump Presidency. I love my country, but we are so much better than this. Trump shouldn't even be elected to mayor or governor, let alone President.

Is it possible that during the general election the media will actually hold him to account for these things?

You cannot answer accusations of inciting violence with lies and deflections. At least, normal people can't. I feel like he continually gets little pressure because they enjoy the circus so much and there are other candidates to talk to as well.

Hopefully he has to properly answer for his rhetoric during the general.

#JustPretending #NotAllTrumpSupporters

I've been thinking this for a while too, although I'm sure so have a lot of people. The rise of Trump seems eeriely similar to the rise of #GamerGate and #AllLivesMatter. The latter is understandable because of the similar message, but the former is trickier to unpack. Some sort of primal scream is occurring now, and I think we are witnessing the results. Hopefully it passes when Donald is kicked to the curb.

Counterpoint: will his base give a fuck about what the media has to say? It's not like this shittiness is being buried. Hell, I've done like a dozen Today in Trump threads. Media apathy will ruin us.

I don't think his base will, but that base right now is still a minority compared to registered voters. While he's bringing in big crowds at primaries, the crowds will be bigger for the general and the spotlight will be focused on him rather than on a (fake) 3 way race.

My assumption is that his support isn't going to grow much more than it already is right now for the general, especially if the media actually does their damn jobs.

I've made a lot of wrong assumptions this election cycle though.

When you see a push, there's always going to be pushback as well.

Only this time it's a pushback against minorities who are pushing for equality.

Trump actually watches it happen and encourages the violence

Herr Trump last night: "theres's some bad dudes in that crowd" and if "they have to be taken down, well...."

Strange then that every video we see, the violence is one directional and its coming from Trump supporters.
Check out some snippets of this NYT article:
http://www.nytimes.com/2016/03/11/us/politics/riskiest-political-act-of-2016-protesting-at-rallies-for-donald-trump.html?_r=0
A cat-and-mouse game precedes each Trump appearance. As audiences filter in through security checks, campaign aides scrutinize those in line, trying to spot groups of protesters by their matching shirts or other telling signs. People seen as likely disrupters are often ushered out before Mr. Trump ever takes the stage. People ejected from a rally in Concord, N.C., on Monday included a man in a shirt that read “Fascist Trump,” and a group of men and women in black and white shirts who had linked arms.
The response when a protest breaks out can seem almost biological.

Trump supporters typically begin shouting, pointing, jeering — and sometimes kicking or spitting — at the protester, surrounding the offender in a tight circle, like an antibody trying to isolate and expel an unwanted invader from the bloodstream.
Mob dynamics are scary as fuck.

Was just discussing this at breakfast. Where's the proof? Where's the video? Why is this the first we've heard of this? This shitbag claims that two hulking brutes were attacking his supporters. Seriously, how is this the first we're hearing of this? The media better fucking go after this shit..

Absolutely disgusting that even called out on the debate stage, all of the candidates treat violence against political protesters as no big thing or as self defense. Horseshit. Absolute and utter horseshit. The fact that no one is bothering to follow up on it is even fucking worse, fuck this election season.

You nailed it. It even came up during last night's debate. The fact that they had to address it during a major debate tells you how messed up this is. Trump blamed the victims, said they were big nasty guys who were starting trouble. Pretty much what you would expect.

Isn't that actually slanderous?

Assuming it's untrue, of course.

This is, one of, the astonishing things in this cycle. Trump tells blatant, bald faced, and verifiable lies but the media never follows up on it. They just slide right into the next question.

Scary shit.

Even scarier to me is the people that downplay how scary/awful it is, and also claim to have a diverse group of friends. Will people like that ever see reason or have empathy?
wtzgU.gif

I am now legitimately afraid for the future of my country now, especially as a black person. The fact that trump has such a huge following of people who are just being straight up disgusting and violent towards black people and they do not get punished half the time but encouraged to do so says all that needs to be said about what might happen if trump is elected into the White House. I'm so fucking worried about this...just what the hell.

But Trump so down to earth and he understands the poor and uneducated people (although born a millionaire).

Not as simple as that. Some people don't see it as big a problem as others. I don't see it as nearly bad as gaf does (it's still a very bad thing). But it's been said, Trump gives a bunch of racist the freedom they want, which says two things:

1. Progress was being made that racist were getting more regressive and keeping that shit to themselves if they feel then need someone like Trump as president to express their racism.

2. Trump could probably use this control over his followers to do some good but doesn't, regardless of what he says in interviews.

My depression has been at an all time worst and this election has been hurting me so much. The amount of hatred to fellow humans has me in an almost constant state of anxiety lately. Just typing this is making my chest tight and my eyes well up. I just want people to love eachother :(. My mind just can't calm lately. My depression swung from being a cynical sarcastic jerk for a while to the utmost empathy I've ever experienced. I've never felt so personally hurt by other people's suffering as I do right now.

I'm trying to act shocked, and in a way I am, but what gets me is how these attacks keep happening, yet it feels as though no amount of coverage ever helps these attacks gain any meaningful traction for change.

I have not watched any GOP debates for a few weeks, but are these attacks ever being brought up at the debates? I'm just incredulous that it really boils down to, "Oh look, a black person was attacked, must be a Monday!" Then it's on to the next news story..

Maybe an arrest here or there, but no REAL condemnations from anyone meaningful.

wtf that first video the black guy got sucker punked in the face and the police didnt bat an eye at the white dude and kept escorting the black folks out.

If a black guy punked a white guy all those cops would have jumped on home.

If a black guy sucker punched a white guy he'd be shot 15 times before the white guys pain receptors goes off.

My bad I meant to say if a black guy stared menacingly at a white guy. No physical contact needed whatsoever.
