The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky the 3rd coming west for PC in 2017

In this thread: Reading comprehension failure!

In more awesome news this is absolutely fantastic. Both CSII and 3rd are coming our way SOON!™

Zero & Ao when?

3rd is more of a linking game between the different parts of the larger stories than just a third part of a trilogy. And fucking everyone has a pc nowadays, and it's not like you need even half decent specs to run it
Do you know if it's possible to run SC on Mac? When I looked on steam SC looked to only be compatible with Windows.

2017 is still a ways away though. Maybe I'll have switched to PC by then.

Even after SC broke the XSEED Second Game Curse I kind of assumed this one wasn't happening (and could hardly blame them if it didn't.) Super psyched about this.

The TITS SC sale is the cheapest it's been yet, BTW, so tell all your friends to jump in.

Virtual machines, bootcamp... attempt WINE perhaps?

Though bootcamp is probably the most user-friendly way. (I don't own a Mac so my advice may not be trustworthy)

Good outlook for the series and happy for XSeed.

Okay, okay. I'll pay one million dollars for just one copy of the mac port of the game if that satisfies them.

If you willing to go that far, bootcamp or vm is an alternative you know. Even with the overhead there not much loss in performance with these older game engine.

You can't understand why people would rather play a super lengthy RPG on a handheld rather than sit in front of their monitor/TV?

I play these RPGs before bed for like 45 minutes. They're great to unwind with, and I don't have to hog the TV for 60+ hours.

I'm disappointed. That shouldn't be hard to understand.
This. So much this.

Not sure if, but as others said there should be ways around it that'll make it work, especially since the specs requirements are so low

It's still a PSP game in terms of development and approval. You're asking them to try and get that done for a game being released in 2017, but it's not necessarily feasible.

The year doesn't make "development and approval" any harder than SC five months ago. You're being arbitrary.

SC came out on PSP less than five months ago.

Because SC was a promise to those who buy FC. I think that if XSEED would have broken that promise maybe SC would have come sooner on PC, because apparently it was a hell of development bring the PSP version.

more like 2020~

but yeah, that tweet from yesterday was clearly confirming 3rd chapter localization. will buy whenever it comes out.

I'm just going to download a PC save of SC. There'll be a way even if we have to create and place the folders in the right place ourselves.

Good call

Man being on PC is going to make this more challenging.... Ive been playing all these games portable at this point

I guess we play differently, I can't imagine playing Trails in such short bursts. I almost never compete an RPG on handheld.

I would say I could understand PSP fans being dissapointed but I genuinely can't, who honestly expects a sequel to an poorly performing, difficult to localise lengthy RPG to come out on a platform that was pretty much already dead 5 years ago. To get this game at all is pretty mind blowing for me.

But it's not coming out today, it's coming out in a year or more from now. And they said multiple times SC would be their last PSP game.

Any people who have already played the Japanese version have an opinion on how it is in comparison to the rest of the series out of curiosity?

I'm disappointed in all the supposed fans who are skipping this just because there isn't a PSP release. Oh well, their loss.

Ive been preferring JRPGs on portable since Vita came out

But its Fine. Ill take getting 3rd localized over the alternative at this point

SO HAPPY

I think these RPGs are perfect in short bursts, as long as you're consistent. Do a side quest or two tonight. Grind a dungeon for EXP tomorrow night and get to a boss. Kill the boss and watch the scenes after the next night. It's all very relaxing and easy to do.

I'm not saying I expected it on PSP; I didn't expect it at all. But it IS disappointing that they're not releasing it on PSP. Not saying they should, I don't know the financials. But I personally am sad.

Nah, I tried to get Ys Ark of Napishtim to run on Mac with bootcamp but failed. I think I'll just get myself a Surface Pro. I've been meaning to get one for quite some time and this announcement kinda seals it.

It's never been a secret that SC was going to be XSEED's last PSP game. The fact that we're getting 3rd at all is a minor miracle in and of itself, and it's really depressing to see people flip their shit over it not coming to PSP.

SC was a show of good will toward folks who bought FC on PSP and were looking to finish the duology.

I think it's fine to be disappointed as someone who'd rather play it on my Vita as well. But XSEED already said a while ago that they wouldn't be working on PSP games anymore a while ago so being disappointed about this decision now seems a little odd. Were you just holding out hope that they would still bring the PSP version over, or did you miss the statement where they said that.

I don't have a PC, nor do I have the time to play a 50hr+ RPG at home when I have a young family to look after. Portables/mobile pretty much are gaming to me.

Still, much as it means I won't be able to play 3rd, I understand their reasons entirely. Knowing that Cold Steel 2, and possibly 3, are up ahead takes the sting out in my case.

I'm disappointed in all the supposed fans who are skipping this just because there isn't a PSP release. Oh well, their loss.
Not by choice in all cases.

Especially when the game will run on any potato PC anyway.
Is it really that hard to understand that not everyone has or wants a PC? The next time a game is 3DS only, I'll have to remember that saying 'it'll run on any potato portable!' is guaranteed to calm the ire of our home console brothers :D

That's exactly how I play mine as well and would love it on psp but at this point I'm just happy to get this game at all, I'll be there day one. Might be time to invest in an old nvidia shield for the portable play lol

It's babyish, and I say this as someone who has played all the Trails games so far on Vita and way prefers to play JRPGs on portable systems. Expecting anyone to release a PSP game in 2017 is asinine.

Any people who have already played the Japanese version have an opinion on how it is in comparison to the rest of the series out of curiosity?

It's more of a dungeon crawler than the other titles. However, there are some really cool overarching narrative concepts that were introduced in this game and expanded on in Trails of Zero, Trails of Azure, and Trails of Cold Steel 1 & 2. It also has multiple prominent characters who you'll recognize as being a big part of Cold Steel.

Some people love it as their favorite, some don't like it as much as other entries. What I do know, however, is that it has the least amount of text in the franchise, and has about a third (no pun intended) of the text that Trails SC had. It's not gargantuan like SC.

From Tom, via XSEED forums:

To address some common questions thus far:

  • PC version only. Sorry, but we couldn't swing the PSP, PS3, or Vita versions of the game (and all for completely different reasons, to boot -- none of which I'm really at liberty to talk about in any great detail, so you'll just have to trust that we tried our best!).
  • Localization duties are not being handled by Carpe Fulgur as with SC, but by more or less the same team responsible for the Trails of Cold Steel games. So if you liked the way Cold Steel turned out, you've got nothing at all to worry about with 3rd!
  • Nothing is being edited out or removed. In fact, as others have said, I believe Sara will even be attempting to add the previously PSP-exclusive elements to the PC release -- though of course, nothing can be guaranteed there, especially at this early stage. It's just sort of an idea/goal at this point.
So, yeah... to all y'all who said there was no way in hell 3rd would ever see the light of localization, all I can say is, EAT IT. ;) Heheheheh...

-Tom
Oh yeah, one more frequently asked question to quash:

  • No Japanese voices, sorry! As with FC and SC, 3rd will include English voices only, as once again, the rights to the Japanese voices were not available. (Wait'll you hear the English voice for Gilbert, though -- sooooooo good!)
-Tom

I really wasn't expecting this to ever get localized. I'm glad the tease and turn around on localization reveal was this quick.

It might be disappointing for some people that only the PC version is getting brought but really, it's not unexpected and I feel we should just rejoice that XSEED is bringing it over at all.

Thanks XSEED, you keep exceeding my expectations.

Yeah and Xseed has went into exhaustive details about how tricky it would be to port the Vita versions

Hell even getting a PSP game in 2016 is a miracle in itself.

I am curious as to how the PSP version of SC did for XSeed. Did they ever reveal anything about that?
