The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky the 3rd coming west for PC in 2017

Apparently CS2 is less newbie friendly and makes important references to both 3rd and Ao/Azure. Playing them out of order probably wouldn't be terrible, but skipping one would probably result in an incomplete experience.

That's why we can always replay them :P

I'll take any excuse I can to replay Cold Steel, especially with the amazing fast forward feature.

People mad about lack of portable option

Totally Justified

However its not Xseeds fault and this is literally the best they can do to give us a localized version at the moment

Unless Falcom has some way to renegotiate the rights on the EVO titles... (or finds some other way to expand them overseas) its pretty much not going to happen

Its a bummer but XSEED deserves praise here

Not that big of a deal. CS series was made to ensure that newbies to the series could hop right in comfortably.
Oh? I was told I should definitely play SC before CS because CS can spoil some plot elements from SC...
Since Sky1 -> Sky 2 -> 3rd -> CS1 -> CS2 is original release order (barring Ao and Zero, natch) most would say that it's best to play in that order, though it won't really hurt to skip 3rd before coming back to it.
Ok cool. Well I'll probably postpone CS then and just play them in order.

They can sell their PSP and use the $20 to buy a PC that can run this game. :)
lol

No PS3 version is obviously because the port doesn't have trophies and SCEA are jerks. -_-
And people wonder why I hate trophy culture so much.

Well yeah it does, just because pcs have a wide range doesnt mean people want to play it on them, or they already have a PSP/Vita. This series has been coming to hardheld in the west longer than it has PC, its not exactly surprising people want the full trilogy on handheld.

Complain to Sony or Falcom then. If you don't want to play despite the form factor, then maybe the problem lies elsewhere. This serie is born on PC one could argue. This isn't the problem though, it's about platform viability. PSP is dead not only in term of marketshare, but maybe Sony won't even care about QA.

I refer to Gaijinworks again. The real rub is how bloody long it took SC to come over. I see it as do right by Handheld gamers they do right by you. The Vita isn't known for having a high attach rate and ardent fans for nothing, The system might as well be called Japanese games and Indies Portable system.

Seriously. I'd understand the reverse has not everyone has a specific console or handheld, but pretty much everyone has a PC and it's not like you need a powerful one to run it.
I don't think anyone is complaining about not having the means to play it. Some people just don't like or want to play games or certain types of games on a PC.

Imagine if you could only play trails sitting on a bike seat while constantly pedaling it. It probably wouldn't be a comfortable environment for you to play in for an 80 hour game (though you'd get into great shape).

Some people like to play in bed, on the go, lying on a couch, etc. Some like to be able to resume/suspend within 2 seconds of picking up the console and start playing right away for a 15 minute burst. For these people, booting up a PC or sitting down in a chair at their desk with a KB/M for hours at a time is just as uncomfortable as that bike seat.

Note that I don't have a horse in this race. I just want to help people empathize with why the gaming environment they take for granted as normal isn't the same for everyone.

People forgetting about the importing of your own saves. Smh

Sure I can probably nab a "perfect" save for the GoG versions somewhere. Still wouldn't be my save :(

Woooo! Great news. Own FC & SC on Vita, not sure I can handle having TC on a separate platform. Double dipping imminent.

Comparing orange with apples here. Falcom might not even want to bother with doing PSP related work. The problem is that you think it's a lack of will when it's obviously a lack of options. As for handheld gamers, there are PC handhelds options... and it's getting a PC release.

This is incredible news. I'm so relieved we're gonna get the entire trilogy. Of course I'd love if we got the PSP version too but I understand why it might not be feasible. This is such an incredible series.

And now just to find a way to get Zero & Ao eventually...

I don't think everyone has a PC- I certainly don't, I use a mac at home as it matches my computer at work. More importantly, a lot of people who mainly use portables don't necessarily have the time to be playing rpgs at home for work or family reasons (or both in my case)- they are commute fodder for me.

Still, I understand entirely why this is a PC-only release. I might investigate borrowing a laptop or something off of a friend when it comes out. I'm just glad it's getting a localisation at all, it makes the odds of me being able to play it one day infinitely better than it staying in Japan! :D

As far as I'm concerned Xseed went above and beyond in getting SC out of the door and playable on portables, and the Cold Steel games certainly sweeten the deal.

Quite the coincidence that Trails of Cold Steel is getting delivered to my house today. Happy that we're getting The Third and we have a more solid date for CSII. Can't wait until 2017.

An alternative for those not liking gaming on PC is to play on a laptop. I play a lot while in my bed, and thanks to that I was able to play both FC and SC on Windows. Not ideal for those that don't have a laptop already, but it's an option. Also, you don't really need a controller for this game, the keyboard alone is more than enough.

I'd play Trails in the Sky FC on my W10 tablet with my iPega controller, but last time I tried to boot the game, I had to completely restore the OS...

What.

I played through a chunk of SC in my tablet without any major issues (other than slowdowns in foggy areas), and you and I both know that my tablet is way crappier than yours.

Yea, but this is about licensing issues and stuff. Just because Gaijinworks brought over Summon Night 5 doesn't mean they can magically make a PSVita version of TiTs 3rd appear in a poof of smoke.

SC had it issues, because originally XSEED got Andrew and his colleagues at Carpe Fulgur to handle the translation while they were busy with other stuff. However some real life issues (personal/Trails of terminology not lining up since there wasn't a word bible made) etc caused some of the deadlines Carpe Fulgur were required to meet to be pushed back. Andrew even went into a bout of depression in the middle of it and eventually it was offloaded back to Jessica Chavez (main editor of the localization work for First Chapter) and the rest at XSEEDGames.

They didn't want to delay it, but they came through in the end.

This is not some conspiracy theory. If XSEED could viably release 3rd on PSP they'd do so. Apparently it's not and it's a bit silly to question the decision since we are plain and simply missing the necessary information that lead to this decision.

It might be that sales of PSP games - even with the Vita user base - are plain and simply not high enough to justify the effort. It might be that Falcom isn't willing to do the required localization programming effort on another PSP release. It might be that there are issues with Sony in regards to PSP games releasing in 2017. It might be all of it, some of it or something completely different.

I'm not really vested in the series as I'm not really fan of the Kiseki titles, but I'm glad the success of Falcom titles means more of their great games come overseas!

Now, Tokyo Xanadu please.

For those disappointed in a lack of PSP release, there's always another option to try.

I've already tweeted to Gio. Instead of just writing it here, you can always share it to powers that be.

I'll quote this for the people who want the PSP version. Might as well tweet it at Sony themselves.

It must be something with some driver. The Vita LineGAF peeps were online when it happened, they tried to give me directions to get it to run, but in the end, it fucked up my tablet. I'll try again today, but I'm not excited if it happens again...

didnt even FC sell like shit on PSP, and the only reason SC got made was due to steam sales?

I swear thats what I read but I have no source

They started localising SC before FC even came out on Steam.

My hope has been rekindled for Zero no Kiseki and Ao no Kiseki.

Which will also be Steam exclusive based on this decision and the complications around the Vita version... But then, if PC owners want to continue with the series, they'll need a PS3/Vita to play Cold Steel. Just seems like a bit of a mess trying to follow the series around platforms, which is annoying.

So I dunno. Not coming to PSP cuts it down from a definite purchase to a maybe. I already struggle to fit handheld RPGs into my schedule, let alone PC RPGs.

Awesome! Probably gonna be craving some more trails after CS2 lol.

Though i might even hold on CS2 depending on how close to release they are since CS2 references stuff from TC apparently

Ill probably buy CS2 and not start it until after I beat 3rd in 2017 lmao

thats going to be nuts

I might not wait...

As plenty of people have pointed out FALCOM could be a significant issue. XSeed can't do the PSP programming in house- FALCOM has to do it. And if FALCOM doesn't have the resources or desire to do it then no PSP version.

very nice. sucks no PSP version. have to sit down and play on PC then.
