Captain America: Civil War - Final Trailer

Yup. That's why I like it so much more than all of the previous ones. Looks like it came right out of "Marvels".

Glad I wasn't the only one who had that same reaction too. It's impressive they managed to make it not look like underwear despite not having the intricacies and apparent depth and texture of the Raimi suit.

Showed a friend the trailer and he said "when can we have a spider-man where he's not in high school?"

Apparently 30-year old Tobey and Andrew pretending to be high schoolers for half a movie counts or something

It's weird because Spider-Man's major appeal is his partially his youth and his outlook relative to other "big" heroes, and school is really the only environment where his origin really works. It's why I've thought Miles Morales was a good idea to give grown-up Peter Parker a chance at a happy ending or a different kind of role.

I was about to get your back

but nah, not like this

ok james franco's performance was hilarious

when he wasn't angry it was great.

Tobey was awful though, terrible PP. Garfield was a improvement but not that much.

This guy though?

Definitive Parker

It has a lot of the same shit that turned me off to Spidey 3.

-- The "raindrops" sequence is on the same tier of bad as EmoParkerDancing.gif in my opinion
-- Mary Jane is secretly an unlikable super bitch in both movies
-- Villains in both movies share really lame victim of science origins
-- Way too campy in spots (I swear if another woman screams while directly looking into the camera...)
-- Harry Osborne refuses to think anywhere remotely in the realm of the logical
-- Tobey is a shitty Spidey in both movies (his Parker is good though)

And in general I think both Spider-Man 2 and Spider-Man 3 have a bunch of dumb shit that pull me right out of the movie. Whether it being Sandman being jammed into the Uncle Ben origin, Spider-Man's random superpower impotence in #2, or Harry continuing to hate Spider-Man despite knowing full well that his father was a goddamn murderous psychopath. I know that Back to the Future gif of Doc explaining how Spider-Man 3 retroactively made the other ones shit goes around a bit, but that was honestly true for me. Spidey 3 ruined Spidey 2 for me because they both feel like they share a lot of things I dislike.
Hmm, I gotta disagree with you and I'm sorry that 3 ruined 2 for you, but I can respect your points. I don't mind the campy parts at all, any of them, because I felt it was well balanced with the tone they were going for.

Spider-man 2 is a top-tier comic film.
Spider-man 3 is a bottom-tier one. By bottom-tier I mean it's something a bottom feeder cleans up from aquarium residue.

Even a mention of Spider-Man 2 makes me want to go watch for the upteenth time. I remember when Spidey did this. Small moment, sure, but man did I totally feel like I was watching Spidey go.

If there's one thing all the Spiderman movies nailed, it was the web swinging
Mentioned this in the other thread but TASM2 had some great web swinging animation as well. They nailed his web swinging down along with some straight out of the comic poses.

movie Mary Jane is a horrendous human being.

Can't think of many people who weren't the slightest bit dickish in the raimi movies.

They're all total assholes

They were in 3 for sure. And stupid. Really, really stupid. All their problems in that movie, which were Days of Our Lives levels of tripe, could have been resolved so easily.

Harry: "Break up with Peter or I will kill you all"
Mary Jane *calls Peter* : "Hey Harry is threatening to kill us if I don't break up with you, just a heads-up"

Instead she's fucking dumb as shit and we get the lamest break up scene ever on a bridge in a park while Harry hides behind a tree.

I still love the scene in Spider-Man 2 of him sliding on the ground hooked to the runaway train

That whole sequence is phenomenal, now that I think about it

That was an awesome trailer. Lost count how many times I've re-watched it.

It's just so iconic to see Spiderman whose franchise was so big during the early to mid 00's and who pretty much kicked off this whole Comic book movie train and Ironman who sort of took over from the mid 00s onwards to finally seem them in a movie together.

Although, I have to admit. I sort of wish it was Toby reprising his role as Spiderman for continuity sake and seeing that particular Spidy interact with the Avengers.

I'm all for continuity in these movies.

spiderman 3 is funny and somewhat enjoyable when you're not coming into it as your most anticipated movie ever following the greatest comic book movie of all time

that first viewing hurt my soul. prequel-esque disappointment coming off spider-man 2.

Spider-Man 2 has just aged. It's a great movie, but I feel like the casting of Peter Parker just weighs it down so damn much. He's just thoroughly unlike any incarnation of Peter in the comics I've come across.

Yes Silver Age he was always pathetic and trouble-laden, Stan Lee's original concept for him and all. But he always had some INNATE snarkiness or likeability, which Maguire just lacks. There's a difference between empathy and pity, the ideal Spidey for me is the former. Maguire is just the latter... Like so much cringe in Spiderman 2 when Aunt May tries to get a free toaster and gets shut down. Like oh my god so much cringe.

I feel like Spiderman 2 was building up to a third instalment that could have been the definitive Spiderman film; Spidey with MJ, at the apex. But even without studio interference in the form of Venom, he still totally wanted (raimi) the Sandman retcon.

Web swooning should be saved for the solo movie to be honest

given how many characters this movie will have the budget can't allow web swinging.

Can you introduce Spiderman and not have web swinging?

And if the rumors about
giant man are true, we'll probably get swinging there. Plus, a fight between the two insect themed heroes makes too much sense
And the reluctant fact they'll probably actually really get along. Seriously, can see Scott and Peter having a big brother relationship, with Tony being the cool uncle.

I left the theater really trying to convince myself that it wasn't a letdown of epic magnitudes. I kept trying to tell myself it was everything I wanted. Then it sank in and I cried inside.

saw it at midnight and had class early the next morning that I could not sleep through

needless to say I still haven't fully recovered from that tragedy. at least the casting decision of topher grace as eddie brock tempered expectations. could have been worse.

This one is true, yes.

Spider-man 2 is one of the few comic films that is actually a great film apart from being just a cool superhero movie. It has some of the best script writing, pacing, and overall story structure among the entire genre and because of that, best character development. You feel most of the characters being developed effortlessly, the story moves at a great pace, it has and builds up to some of the best action ever shot in a superhero movie, and ties everything together perfectly by the end. It isn't great because it has Spider-man in it or this or that, it's just a damn good movie in general.

However, my gut tells me that most people who actually don't like it, which I imagine tallies somewhere in the handful range, dislike it because it disagrees with their personal "perfect vision" of what a Spider-man movie should be, whether because of diligent loyalty to an incredibly, ridiculously specific version of the comics they prefer or otherwise, as mostly proven by people who dislike Tobey Maguire because they feel like he's "not right" despite giving a good performance that works and jives perfectly well within the entire filmmaking space around it.

Great post and 100% agreed!

You're totally right, it's an absolutely well-crafted movie that goes above and beyond just being a superhero story. But despite all that, if you hate the leads or Raimi's style choices then it's entirely possible to just not be that crazy about the movie. It really doesn't just come down to comic book puritanism.

It certainly has some of the most memorable action sequences and a standout villain performance though. God I love Molina's Octavius.

negative bias aside, yeah this is pretty much how I feel

to invoke Kyle Bosman I just didn't like the vibe. I feel like they swung and missed for the vibe that a spider man movie deserves.

The Peter-MJ-Harry drama was fucking trash. Blegh.
