Why mention the church shooting if the intent wasn't "if only you could have been like the nice people in SC then maybe this could have been avoided"?

Anyway, let's just agree to disagree. This debate should be about the Trump shitshow, not Hilary's recent attempts to pander to centrists.

You say that as if Trump getting even more vicious and wild with his attacks/rhetoric wouldn't make him even more unpopular with a general electorate than he already is, or motivate those in opposition.

God, I hope not. But yeah Hillary reminds me of John Kerry. Might have become a great president, but they automatically bring out the snooze when you think of them as president because of their lack of personality and feeling of roboticness.

We're long since past this friend. We all need to stop and wake up. It's time to face reality and see it for what it is. Whatever happens, whether Drumpf makes it to presidency or not, American politics are going to be tumultuously changed after this year.

Which would be a concern against someone like Kasich. Minorities will turn out in droves against Trump.

Hillary should win but both are so unfavorable that it's going to be close, I agree it will undoubtedly be the dirtiest race we've seen. Protesters are unfortunately even less popular than the presidential candidates so I expect Trump and Co. to only gain momentum for now

she's connotatively associating trump with a murdering racist and her own liberal allies with loving, innocent people who are victims of racially charged violence

or to put it more simply, she wants to portray her allies as "the good guys"

That would be correct if this was a normal election cycle.

However the dynamics are completely unpredictable at this point, especially in places like the Rust Belt. There is also a possibility that many Sanders supporters will be disenfranchised from the process when Hillary wins the nomination.

Trump is also a showman, you don't know what he will do during the general election. He could reverse his positions (as he has done in the past several times) and the question then is: Will the electorate care about substance or do they want entertainment and madness over establishment politics (Hillary Clinton).

What scares me is, are those numbers good enough if 100% of middle class white men show up at the polls and vote Trump even if they are Democrats. I have to assume yes, but it worries the shit out of me.

Places like the Rust Belt aren't going to do shit if Trump's antics basically mean states like VA, NC or FL end up safely Democratic.

Also for every white person who's like "Yeah Trump!" hes probably scaring off like three more.

You think NC and Florida are a lock for the democrats? Have you looked at the kind of politicians these states have elected recently? There is a reason why republicans control both houses of congress and won almost all the governor's races in 2014. Obama was an excellent campaigner but now the progressives don't really have that on their side. If it is Hillary v. Trump, then you are voting against something instead of for something. And that is not exactly the best starting position...

Doesn't trump need an insane number of white voters to vote for him like 70% to win? Need to double check that but I'm pretty sure i read that on gaf. Man is done with minority voters and he's going to need every single white voter he can get and there are only so many racists you can get. At some point you need minority voters to win and he's fucked on that front. No amount of pivoting will help him in the general. He has to hope for low voter turn out amongst the Dems and I just don't see that happening if he is the Republican nominee.

yeah, trump knew EXACTLY what he was doing when he organized that "loyalty pledge" - and he knew fools would trip over themselves rushing to try and justify it away

problem for him is that he's gone too far and you're not going to win the general election with only prejudiced white men

He likes living on the edge, also attacks by protesters help him get votes. That crowd in Ohio was the most enthusiastic group I've seen yet this election cycle or last. The decibel level was off the charts. Surpassed even the fervor of the biggest sanders rallies. Only Obama rallies in 2008 had similar vibes, that I can recall.

but some of the positions he has taken you just can't go back on. there won't be much wiggle room to pivot back towards the center for the general. he won't be able to attract independent voters or undecided voters or anyone who isn't already repulsed by the things he says and does.

the electoral map has looked bad for the GOP since day 1, and they are really close to nominating someone that can't win undecided voters.

also these other guys waited too fucking long to tell him to just knock it off with his rhetoric of inciting hate and violence. they should have been doing this months ago when he's talking about building a fucking wall or banning Muslims.

he has terrible favorability among women - i'm on mobile at the moment so i don't have them handy, but i saw recently on poligaf just how poor his favorability is with women voters

This is correct. Which is why I worry about that 7 out of 10 demo.

No one seemed to mind and laughed off the wall and islamaphobia for the lulz.

Unfortunate series of events this has been to lead up to this reality.

No amount of pivoting will be able to help with all the shit he's said. He's done with the AA community, and he's done with hispanics. He can't walk back from the shit he's said either without alienating the base he built in the primaries that have been incredibly loyal to him. How's it going to look to those voters when he tries to backtrack on all the bullshit he's said? Him pivoting is not going to work in the general, and we are much more likely to see Trump trippling down on his bullshit. He's done with minorities that ship has sailed. He now has to find a way to get an insane number of white voters. Is it possible sure, but it's incredibly unlikely given the map/demographics. Republicans are already fighting an uphill battle in the general, and being despised by pretty much every minority group in the U.S. is a sure fire way to not become president given the current landscape.

I wish I had the numbers but he doesn't do that great with them either. He's mostly popular with older uneducated white men, which does extend into some women but really not heavily at all.
