Miitomo Launches March 17th

Judging by the lack of replies to this thread it looks like GAF people aren't really interested?

I'm interested, but nobody knows what it is really, or it seems like a social messenger app for the world's smallest social network (the few Nintendo fans left), and it's also still 2-3 weeks off.

The exciting thing is less Miitomo and more Nintendo's new ecosystem STARTING with Miitomo.

I mean, it's just a phone app, and one that we don't know THAT much about.

Hopefully Nintendo communicates its purpose well. I think it has a lot of potential with the Tomodachi audience.

It seems it's concurrent, but I'd like to know for sure as well. I've been holding off on eShop purchases until we've seen what the new account rewards system is like.

They... have the technology....

If my eshop purchases from whatever date Club Nintendo ended until now don't earn me some kind of "coins" or whatever the fuck, I will be beyond pissed. beyond.

I NEVER call CS and give a hard time, as I have worked support for many years, but in this case I will. Not acceptable.

I'd be shocked if they do. I hope so, but I really don't expect them to.

Exaftly this. I'm not worried, I know Nintendo won't hip me over on purchases in between Club Nintendo and MyNintendo.

For whatever it's worth, when Club Nintendo first started in the US, all your old registered games from the original My Nintendo carried over and awarded coins. Granted, it's a bit different now that there's no way to register physical copies of games anymore, but the point is that Nintendo historically hasn't shied away from rewards programs retroactively awarding coins for previous purchases.

I'm not necessarily counting on it, but the good news is that the old Wii U Digital Deluxe Promotion awarded me rebate points retroactively for purchases tied to my NNID before I ever registered the device or logged into the rewards programme. Still, I'm wary—and actually, the reason I'm holding off on small digital purchases isn't so much that I don't trust their scheme to cover them, but rather that I don't want to spend on anything that shows up immediately as a reward—especially when things like Fire Emblem DLC or 3DS themes already have a reward code system built in that has yet to be activated by anything, as far as I'm aware.

Has it been pointed out yet that it appears My Nintendo will only reward for digital purchases and not physical ones? I've had this suspicion for a while but no real confirmation until seeing this page below where it explicitly calls out digital games / versions:

It's not really that surprising but it certainly sucks.

(this seems like the closest recent thread as people are anticipating the My Nintendo launch with Miitomo)

Gold coins are just used for eShop coupons (I think?), so it's basically just a permanent version of the Digital Deluxe Program. Physical goods and bonus stuff all cones from platinum coins.

If that's the case, it still means the rewards for purchasing physical games (like Club Nintendo had) are absent. I dunno, maybe I'm in the minority, but I feel like most would be going into the new system expecting that to be the same as before. It's been portrayed as a successor to Club Nintendo, not the Digital Deluxe program.

EDIt: This is assuming that Plat coins are not rewarded from playing said physical games. The same image specifically calls out "apps on your smart devices" so I'm guessing that's not the case.

Well, that sucks. No more rewards for buying expensive Collector's Editions then? :(

Ow well, once a decent account system and stuff is in place I'll probably buy plenty of VC games so there's that

Yup. I even mentioned this in another thread.
I know they're doing this to encourage people to go digital but granting literally zero benefits to those who purchase physical (which, to this day is where most of their sales come from) is incredibly short-sighted.

If they give 60 Gold points for a full priced digital game they should give at least 30 if it's physical me thinks.

So, I'll never get any of those points or whatever they are. Whatever, I still don't want to buy digital copies of games.

As someone in the UK, if the only way to get Gold Coins is through digital purchases, then I will have very few Gold Coins. The pricing on the eShop is silly. Twilight Princess digital is £39.99 ($56) but I was able to get the damn Collector's Edition for less than that from Amazon.

My Nintendo launching in time for the Nintendo Selects in UK this Thursday. I plan on getting Tropical Freeze (£19.99) and then Pokken Tournament on Friday both Digital, so hopefully I'll earn Gold Coins for those purchases.

Do you know any online store from the UK, where you can preorder the new Nintendo Selects?

No. I think retailers are keeping the games that make up the Selects at full price right up until they have to drop the prices on Thursday.

I'll just buy Tropical Freeze on the eShop on Thursday. I'll have a quick scout about to see if anybody is doing a download code cheaper on the day but I'm not expecting too much.

In absence of any further announcements, you shouldn't assume that this is launching anywhere other than Japan on Thursday. According to the schedule Nintendo gave, Japan is supposed to get this stuff first.

Ah, I see. Yeah, that sounds like something that they would do. And fully understandable, guess I'll check back later then.

This is actually a good point.

I haven't had my email from Nintendo about the UK launch of Miitomo or My Nintendo. And the Miitomo website (UK) says nothing.

So yeah, this so far looks like a Japan only release this Thursday.

That's not the big problem with Nintendo trying to go Digital-only. The big problem is that the Wii U has 32GB internal fucking storage.

If you still don't have excess to any kind of external storage nearly 4 years in Yiu are doing it wrong. Hell I have been using a 64gb thumb drive for the last 2 years.

Looks like I won't be getting too meny gold coins lol. Hope the indie scene is healthy on NX at least and that Platinum coins can get some cool stuff.

Nintendo have been enticing people for awhile with digital bonus stuff, 'get this blah blah discount when you buy digitally', or 'free theme when you buy digitally int he first week' etc.

It's obviously the way they prefer people to buy stuff, at those ridiculous prices and no ability to re-sell or lend it to my family though, no thank you.

Gonna really suck if they stop offering things for physical releases too, cause that is all I purchase. :| Zero interest in digital when I can get a disc copy.

It's a mysterious social app rather than a straightforward sequel, so obviously it has a different level of interest. But I guarantee you that Facebook will be flooded with this mii editor photos for some type of period.

Happy that I got rid of this kind of FB friends during the Farmville epidemic.
