One day we'll bask in Pyro's sunshine together.
I'm not really a fan of cancer.
I know Squadron 42's launch is at least 18 months away, more likely 3 years away, but I'd like to put forward my candidature for making the OT.
I promise it'll be everything you dreamed of. I'll make Star Citizen great again. These might or might not be election promises.
I can do it too. Since I don't have any free time do something remotely related to gaming and the game will never release anyway, it makes me feel like I'm still active without having to actually do something.jk
Already taken. Is poorly maintained atm sadlyDictator's Tech Corner would make an interesting section at least.
Whoever ends up doing it, I imagine someone already has it reserved. Just putting it out there I'd be glad to help. I did the Elite Dangerous OT.
I did not launch SC since 2.0 is it easier to get in an instance of Port ollisar with a friend now or is it always full ?
How do you mean? Is there an official OT reservation process I'm unaware of?
Interesting. Claimed.![]()
I thought about what would go into the OT, but then I realized how little we really know about S42. I mean, we do know a fair amount, but when compared to Star Citizen, S42 is a black box.

Indeed. Right now it'd be mostly speculation, but that's bound to change in the months leading up to the release. They were talking about sharing some cool S42 stuff in the latest RtV. That vault has gotta start leaking at some point. Honestly, it's mostly official S42 art I'd be missing, if I were to start making the OT right now.
There has been one really large part that has been revealed.
Apparently the game has linear missions you take, but then you also are merely stationed aboard the ship in a system... and can do "far cry esque" open world stuff in a sandbox.
Pretty sure that is a design that has been mentioned by CIG and by press who went to F42 UK.
Yeah, that's my understanding of it as well.
If they get the mixture (and quality) right, I'd say it's pretty much the ideal solution for a modern story-driven space sim.
The possibilities of it, when you consider the addition of EVA / FPS ... Help.
One of the level designers interviewed in the PC gamer Weekender, mentioned that it will be a mix of driven and well paced linear missions as well as more open ended setpiece moments.
It'll be interesting to see how well CIG fares in the design of the missions. We have nothing with which to judge their abilities on that front. Hopefully they nail it, because to a certain extent this will be child's play compared to the design that'll have to go into events in SC. It's a bit apples and oranges, but there's far more variables in play in SC.
The closest we have is the training mission, which when it launched at least (when it worked!), had some nice narrative elements and feel.
Hi guys, to gain access to all the playable stuff so far all I have to buy is one of the $45 ships and the Squadron 42 pass? Arena Commander is now included with the ship, right?
Yes! Or just the SQ42 starter packageas a simple thing (comes with an AUrora)
If you back now you get in the alpha, AC, and future SM modes upon release.
Are you sure that package comes with a ship? This is what I was going to check out.

I linked the wrong thing. Yes. Ignore what I just linked you. I meant to link that. Sorry :/
Cool, no worries!
When you mentioned future SM modes--what does SM stand for?
EDIT: Nevermind, I believe it's this.

I want to upgrade my Aurora MR to an Aurora LN, per this guide's suggestion of the LN being the best value (it's a $10 upgrade).
Is upgrading as simple as going through the process in the upgrade menu and then having your ship turn into the upgraded one in-game?
It looks like a new concept ship is going to go up for sale on friday.

Hopefully it's something I don't want lol. Decided to bite the bullet with a Vive, so ship funds are squashed.
Nice, excited to hear how the Vive works!
I am curious if it will be the new pirate interceptor (Buccaneer) or the two person mining ship. Figured they would hold off on the Polaris until closer to Nov/Dec time frame.
Could also be the Drake Dragonfly space motorcycle thingy they seem to talk about that a lot.
Wait, what's this. ?Could also be the Drake Dragonfly space motorcycle thingy they seem to talk about that a lot.
It's been announced for awhile.Wait, what's this. ?
Drake Dragonfly: You dont so much as climb into the Dragonfly as you do put it on around you. In short, its the closest thing to strapping an engine and a weapons mount to your spacesuit or, as the advertising campaign claims, its the closest thing to riding the vacuum yourself. Occupying somewhere in the pantheon between a snub fighter and an Aurora, the Dragonfly is a speedy, maneuverable ultralight designed to be cheaply constructed in large numbers and to be readily customized by hobbyists. Dragonflys have become the favorite of a particular brand of enthusiast that frequently gather together to share their modifications, off-track race and other less legitimate hobbies.
Ahhh. Cool. It's been announced for awhile.
If it is this, it'll be another good LTI fodder ship as it should be on the cheap side.
Yep. LOL.As I prep for my VR arrival, it occured to me that we're going to need like...2018 GPUs to run this game in the manner we expect in VR aren't we.![]()

. What if when leaving the cockpit chair you're warped out of first person VR perspective to where you're watching a virtual screen of the game? Basically returning to monitor play without having to rip off the headset. This way you have the immersion of piloting the ship in full VR but can walk around / shoot / etc without the possibility of motion sickness.
This got me to thinking about the whole SC animations in VR bit and how the FPS aspects are at odds with best practices for VR. We've had this conversation a number of times now, but an idea just popped in my head that was inspired by the recent Steam VR news. The whole of FPS combat is going to be troublesome with VR, and you can't do that in 3rd person with any real effectiveness due to the limits the game imposes on the HUD.I don't think the virtual cinema switch would be well received. They could just switch to a 3rd person view for the most troublesome animations.
Personally what I was laughing at was the idea of streaming Xb1 video instead of projecting the output of a game running on your VR capable PC.![]()
And people laughed. Little did they know ...Brilliant idea.
You can keep the full immersion mode as an option for those people unaffected by it. Full time 3rd person isn't going to work. The whole of FPS combat is going to be troublesome with VR, and you can't do that in 3rd person with any real effectiveness due to the limits the game imposes on the HUD.

Have you always been able to spawn any ship in Port Olisar or is that only available during the Free Fly week?
Once it ends you'll be restricted to what you own - or what they're giving you as a loaner. For the next week, weve enabled Free Fly access to all accounts FOR EVERY CURRENTLY FLYABLE SHIP IN THE GAME OO-AH-AH-AH-AH!
