A bigger fan of this then any of the official posters released thus far.

Yup. If I recall the sound mixing guys on the raimi spider films got nominated for an academy award for 1 & 2.

I didn't know that. Yeah, the sound design for both of those films is wonderful. There's some awesome weight to it that adds, on a subconscious level, some realism to the fights, even when the CGI is aging poorly. Most of the time, good sound design goes ignored, unfortunately.

If people only realized that Raimi was poking fun at the idea of making the hero going down a dark path just turns them into a edgelord, I think this part of SM 3 could be forgiven and people would instead complain about the actual bad stuff about the film.

Just think about how much worst it would be if he played that straight instead of in this goofy montage that fit in with the tone of the comedy those movies had. It would have been bad. You can just feel Raimi's disdain for Venom and Sony forcing him to include the character.

Peter under the influence of the symbiote is my favorite parts of Spider-Man 3. There is a legit fun Spider-Man movie underneath the shoehorned Venom plot.

What I loved about Raimi's take on the symbiote influence is that Peter is a huge geek, and the symbiote "enhances the traits of its host," according to Dr. Connors. So it basically just turned Peter into an even bigger geek than he already was, minus the self esteem and self deprecating nature. It's like those "how I see myself" memes. Peter sees himself as this brilliant lethario and lover man, too cool for school, and everyone else just sees Peter acting like a big jackass/jerk.

The montage of his shenanigans cracks me up every time, and I actually think that's precisely the point. "Ms. Brant! That's not the position I hired you for!" Jonah's reactions to Peter's antics are also priceless.

I won't defend the legit bullshit of the movie, but it honestly had some great stuff in it. Harry's diner scene with Peter is also brilliant, and we laugh at his "so good" exactly like Raimi intended. If anyone thought he was trying to make a seriously dark and edgy black suit Spider-Man movie, they really hadn't been paying attention to his first two movies. Raimi's Spidey films were always an homage to the Lee/Ditko era of the character. Spider-Man 3 was like "What if Lee/Ditko had done the black suit story arc instead of the oh so gritty late 80's and 90s?

Spider-Man 3 has a lot of issues, but "Emo Peter" isn't one of them. It's perfectly in line with the Peter of the trilogy.

If only Raimi had gone with a more classic looking costume like Civil War. The Raimi films are Lee/Ditko, the Webb ASM films are like the 90's, and Civil War Spidey is like Ultimate Spider-Man era. Even so, his costume in Civil War looks amazing. I'm really interested in seeing what his first costume is going to look like. I don't think for a second that the shot at the end of the trailer is his introduction. I think it's the debut of his new look, as designed by Tony Stark, and his actual intro scene as Spider-Man is going to be earlier in the movie, with a bootleg costume.

I never cringe. I hate the term.

But goddamn I hated that scene. Especially when it asks me to believe this train full of people will keep his identity secret. Blech.

This sounds like vince vaughn from true detective. It made you cringe. Just own it.

Pretty much. That, and the brilliant idea that just because Peter has the suit doesn't make him any less of a fucking nerd. Instead, he's a nerd trying really fucking hard to emulate what he thinks cool means.

This is how I've always read it, and its absolutely hilarious

Pretty much. My wife doesn't like SM3, but she loves Emo Parker. The expressions of the faces of the women as he struts by is perfect, and cracks us up every time. He is 100% emulating how he thinks "cool people," act. The hilariousness is that it's actually working on Betty and his neighbor Ursa, who continue to be the best parts of the trilogy. I loved his landlord and daughter. So much character for such small roles.

Basically. Look at the perfection that is Peter vs Harry's second fight. This is a schoolyard brawl complete with trash talking and dick measuring galore. Look at the little details like Harry stabbing Peter with the knife he hesitated with in 2, the way the arm blades sing when Harry moves, or the way the pumpkin bomb hitting Harry is a mirror of Peter taking a bomb in one.

Do you think we'll see any surprise characters show up?

Also I did some research on BP because he looks so bad ass and could possibly become my 2nd favorite character in the MCU movies after Hulk. Seems like he has a deep relationship with Storm in the comics. Is it possible for Marvel to use her in their MCU because of it? Maybe not in this movie, but in future movies? To me it doesn't sound that much different than the Quicksilver/Scarlett Witch loophole, but I don't know.

No chance.

Quicksilver's and Scarlett witch are Avengers which lends to the loophole as long as they stayed away from calling them mutants and any connections with Magneto being thier dad.

It's up to Fox on whether they can use Storm for Black Panther, but it will most likely end in vain.

It would be pretty cool to see Storm with Black Panther, but since Fox own the rights it won't happen.

Storm is an X-Man first and BP's squeeze second. Scarlet Witch/Quicksilver were Avengers first and mutants second, hence that rights squabble

It'd be like asking for Wolverine in the Avengers movies because he's been on the team before

You see... this shitty fight scene is why I'm so excited Tom Holland can actually do acrobats. Tobey Maguire without his suit becomes a regular emo joe and can't do shit. Tom Holland would flash kick the shit outta Franco.

The timelines are off as well. Singer's Storm is adult/near-adult in the 1980s, unless BP digs older women.

His attitude works with Betty and Ursa because he really does emanate confidence. Even the way he talks to J.J. has him speechless when Peter demands a staff job and double the pay. Regular Peter would have just tried to not get shortchanged while J.J. would try to walk all over him. He has some genuine moments of cool in all the goofiness but It backfires when he ends up pushing away the two women that actually care about him because he's not being himself.

It's hilarious that people got mad about "Emo Parker" at the time, as if Raimi was really trying to pass off this emo, edgy Spiderman as cool, when he even combs down his hair when he first walks by a mirror as if to show the transformation to "evil" in an over-the-top way by brushing it into an emo look. That's totally a reflection of Peter's idea of dark and cool, not Raimi's. I was surprised to hear that so many took that scene at face value and felt it was a misstep by trying to make Peter emo.

at least jumping attacks tend to follow the movement of the body

in this case he flies straight and kicks sideways, so the force of the kick is entirely on the force of his legs alone.

It's not a normal kick, the force helps him spin so it's as if he's stomping on those guys.

Who cares? it looks cool.

Great scene.

The arc for Peter and Harry's friendship was one of the best things about 3 and a satisfying pay-off for me for build up from the first 2 movies.

Too bad the Goblin II suit looked how it did instead of Harry just taking over his dad's suit and glider or something closer to it.

it looks cool?

You know who else thought "who cares it looks cool"?

Thatt doesn't look cool, that's why everyone posts it to make fun of it.

It doesn't even look very effective for whatever purpose it's supposed to have.

Falcon is doing an attack. How effective it would be in a real fight is a moot point.

Black Widow keeps doing crazy hurricanranas but I don't care how effective it would be in real life, it looks cool and makes enough sense for me.

This is now a Sam Raimi Spider-man thread.

I still liked Venom... but he should have had his own movie. Spider-man 3 is NOT a "terrible" film, but it's just stuffed full of way too much, crammed full of way too much. It can't breathe. How can it? It's got THREE villains!

Back on topic, I'm actually AMAZED that we haven't seen one iota of Civil War's actual main villain:
What, Stark is part of 30% of every trailer mate.

Daredevil is the best MCU related anything, and Ant Man is in the top 5.

This thread is nuts.

Edit: Sorry you meant the Daredevil movie. Wait... That's even crazier.
The show is infinitely better than the movie for sure. It's just that Ant Man remains there only part of the MCU that I've actively disliked. I don't have a problem with the character. I just disliked the writing, villain, and side characters so much that I couldn't enjoy the movie at all.

Fair enough. Supporting cast is what made Ant Man work for me (Luis is the best), but if you don't like them, you're left with a pretty by the numbers superhero movie.
