Captain America: Civil War - Final Trailer

Are you for serious with this?

Yes. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is a shit show. I've been watching it since episode 1 of season 1, in the hopes that the show would improve, and while it did, marginally, it's just not very good. A lot of that stems from the horribly unlikable cast of characters. I like a lot of the actors on the show, I just think it's poorly written, with mediocre storylines. Eventually, I just had to drop it. Same with Gotham. I have so little free time after my work day, that I'm not going to waste it on shows that don't grab my interest. Agents is boring. I could maybe handle boring if I thought the cast had chemistry or were charming. Outside of Sky, May, and sometimes Fitz/Simmons, the rest of the cast are awful. Coulson used to be one of my favorite characters in the MCU, but he's written terribly in Agents. Very inconsistent and unlikable. The Inhumans story feels like they're trying to course correct the weak premise of the show, but so far it's not working. Fix the character dynamics, and bring us some compelling storylines that aren't just about Sky or, gag, Ward, and then the show could be something. I think Gotham is actually better than Agents, but that's not saying much.

gotham is great

I haven't watched past the first couple of episodes of Shield but I heard it gets a lot better

there's too much good TV right now I can't keep up with all this shit

I wanted to like Agents so badly. Ultimately, the show that I though it was going to be (basically, the X Files in the Marvel Universe, with the Agents investigating the strange occurrences going on throughout the world in the aftermath of the various MCU movie events), but the unlikable characters kill it for me. It did get a lot better (Season 1 was super unfocused and just not good), but until they get more consistent in writing the characters, it's just not good. To me, of course. I recommend checking it out for yourself and seeing if it's your thing.

I believe his problem was with your "S.H.I.T." part, which makes you sound like a 10 year old.

Gotham? A show that's so afraid to actually stand on its own merits it has to shoehorn in every major Batman villain in his rogue's gallery before Batman even shows up? No thanks. Gotham is trash, but better than Agents of S.H.I.T. Season 2 of Gotham was definitely better than Season 1, but it's still not a good show. I actually think the cast is rather good (Gordon grew on me in Season 2. Donal Logue is always great, and I love Morena Baccarin. Penguin is great as well). But the stories just aren't that compelling. There were a few solid episodes, but overall, it tries too hard to be a TV version of Nolan's world, but with way too many forced inclusions of Batman villains (the Riddler and the Penguin would have been enough, just to set the stage for Batman's arrival in 10 years). And the young Bruce, teen romance awkwardness with Selena is the most cringe inducing shit I've seen in a long time.

So far, The Flash is the best superhero show on TV. Mainly because it's not afraid to be a comic book show. It isn't trying to ape Nolan movies, or do what Marvel is doing, it's just telling fun Flash stories, and the cast is great, with great chemistry(although Caitlin is horribly under-utilized. We need more Killer Frost Caitlin). It wears its superhero origins on its sleeve, a lot like the Raimi Spider-Man movies.

That's one of the things that concerns me about Civil War, is that it feels so grim and dark from the trailers. Then again, The Captain America movies are actually the one MCU series where I think you could do grim/dark storylines well (when not Daredevil or Jessica Jones, of course). I mean specifically big screen movies. Most of the Marvel movies are light hearted. Winter Soldier was a lot darker, and this one looks like it will be too. I guess I'm okay with that, but I hope the other Marvel movies going into this next phase of films continue to be fun and light-hearted.

Killer frost is hot as fuck. She entered the frame and me my girl went dayum!

I was pretty cold on Danielle Panabaker's acting (I thought it was decent to poor, depending on the episode), but her Killer Frost is awesome, and not because she looks pretty. She just plays that menacing personality really well. As much as I love Caitlin, I wouldn't complain if she got replaced by Killer Frost at some point. She seems to have much more fun playing Frost than Caitlin. Overall, Caitlin just needs more to do than moon over her current love interest of the week/season.

I think Marvel missed a chance with the Civil War trailers (or, perhaps they'll do this with the TV spots?) but one of the trailers should have really been sympathetic to Iron Man's side of things. Focus on the past destruction and the need for registration. Really hit home Stark's hurt as Cap betrays his friendship. Paint Cap as being on the wrong side of the conflict. That sort of thing.

Essentially, cut a trailer that really makes people go #teamstark. And, of course, cut another for #teamrogers. Pull a Twilight with this.

I don't see Gotham trying to be like Nolan's Batman at all. If anything it's gone more over the top in its execution than most comic book shows on right now. I've seen elements of Burton's noirish Gotham, Schumacher's extremely campy and crazy Gotham, and the graphic novel darkness of some of Batman's stories. It also has a setting completely unique to itself, without the digital technology of today and retaining an almost timeless period like Batman: The Animated Series.

Have they revealed any Civil War Spider-Man merchandise?

I remember reading people saying that some companies were waiting for the trailer to drop so they could finally reveal some Spidey stuff but I haven't seen anything yet.

Discounting the Netflix shows for arbitrary reasions, I would put Agents of Shield and Flash as about equal with different strengths and weaknesses. Agents does better plot stuff in general, but Flash is stronger with its main character. Although there are certainly episodes where both fail pretty hard at both. Also, due it's fun and campy nature, I'm more willing to forgive Flash for some of it's pretty notable failings, which in other shows would probably turn me off completely.

I actually thought he was pretty creative. Not sure a 10 year old would come up with that. You knew exactly what he was getting at by just changing the last 3 letters in the show name.

He's right though. I watched the first 10 episodes or so and it was the worst show I had seen in years. Only reason I might get back to it is because tons of gaffers say s2 gets so much better. I AoSHIT is pretty accurate based on those few episodes. :D

Anyways in regards to the movie, I hope for a few things:
- the issue between Cap and Ironman isn't resolved 80% into the movie so they hug and beat the final villain. I want this to linger until Thanos Part I where they are still at opposite ends but have to get together just because Thanos is wrecking house.
- Death that actually stays a death unlike
Nick Fury in Winter Soldier
. That was terrible, and I saw it a mile away. Another one is to make the death meaningful and not predictable
running man in AoU
.. Am I going to care? So either commit to it or don't bother doing this at all. Go all in or not
- 3rd act to be great. Generally falls flat with every single Marvel movie.
- Some real consequences to two teams going at each other.
- Daredevil getting imprisoned by IronJudas scene.

What I actually think will happen is Cap "dies" and comes back in Thanos Part II somehow.

Hey guys, here's an article about the Civil War trailer, should I make a thread about it?

‘Captain America: Civil War’ Trailer Dominates Twitter

...becoming the most discussed trailer on Twitter not just for the week, but the entire year.

I'm not making a thread, just a comment on threads.

Isn't Evans signed for Infinity Wars? I wouldn't hold my breath over the whole death thing.

Last I heard (these are potential spoilers so I'm going to tag them):

Evans is signed for ONE more movie after Civil War. Not both parts of Infinity War, which counts as two movies, but just one of them.

So you think...

Killed in Civil War only to be revived through Life Gem/Dr. Strange shenanigans in Infinity War Pt. 2?

It actually does get better in Season 2. It at least has a focus as far as a narrative thrust for the season. I just don't think it's executed particularly well beyond a handful of episodes (ironically enough, my two favorite episodes of the entire series only feature one of the main characters, Simmons. Those two episodes were legitimately interesting, and then the rest of the crew returns...).

Back on topic, I'm still thinking that that airport battle happens around the halfway to 3quarters mark of the movie, and it will resolve itself when Baron Zemo comes forward as the real big bad of the movie. Then the remaining factions have to work together to stop him, but the Tony/Steve rift will still play itself out until the very end. I can see them all still being at odds in some way until Infinity War knocks them out of their funk. Intergalactic threats tend to bring warring heroes together. I'm one of the few that never had any problem with the Act 3's of any of the Marvel movies, because most Act 3's of most movies are weak (not excusing it, but it really is hard bringing a narrative to its conclusion based off of my own writing experiences). The limited time constraints of film just make every third act feel so damn rushed. It's why when a movie can pull it off, it's like, "damn, now that's satisfying."

It just feels so weird to be in a world where we're getting Batman v Superman (a movie I have no interest in, honestly), Civil War, Daredevil, The Flash, Supergirl, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D (for better or worse), Gotham, Arrow, Legends of Tomorrow, Jessica Jones, and soon Luke Cage, all in the same damned year.

Teenage me of the 90's would have pissed himself with glee over having so much superhero content to gorge myself on. To be honest, 36 year old me is still pissing myself with glee. Even if I don't love all of the superhero stuff being released by the various companies, it still feels great to see a medium that I love as much as I do (I'm a comic book artist/writer myself!) getting so much love on the big and small screen. Oversaturation? Probably. Do I care? Not a bit, as long as the content remains entertaining. There's a lot to choose from to suit your tastes in comic book stuff (I'll also include the Walking Dead in that list; love the comic, the show makes me want to punch kittens; not really).

I would say

With the guy who plays Bucky initially being signed to 6 movies, Cap dies at the end of Part 1 as a cliffhanger, and Bucky takes up the mantle in Part 2 and beyond.

yeah
they need a sacrificial lamb for part 1 and Rogers makes the most sense out of anyone reguardless of contract issues

Shield has become a pretty decent show. I prefer it over Arrow and Flash because the writing isn't as obnoxiously stupid but I enjoy all 3.

Tried the first 6 episodes of Gotham but I never went back.

Watch the last episode and then start season 2.

You will orgasm.

He might as well have said "Agents of Dumbhead", it's about the same level of discourse.

LOL. Definitely turned into easily the best show in its genre at season 2

Now that it knows exactly what it wants to be and feels like fox doesn't mandate anything it's turned into burton-verse fuckery.

Not sure if this was shown yet...

Pretty good edit/alternate suit for what could have been.

I'd rather not have Peter wearing someone else's suit.

Sorry, I edited my statement by the time you posted. What I was meaning to imply was that we could have had Miles instead of Peter. And I think that suit color scheme could look cooler in the movie.

"what could have been."

Nah, not really.

but Miles is black

Peter Parker is the only Spider-Man anyone cares about. Not Ben Reilly, not Miles Morales.

It would have been an interesting twist and an introduction to a version of a superhero who's never been given the movie treatment.

But Peter is a better character than Miles.

As with many things in life this is subjective.

Also, aside from the idea against Miles being in, I just find his suit to fit in better than Peter's bright and colorful one. We're talking about a series of movies that has muted the colors of everyone's suits except for maybe Iron Man.

Miles' suit is better.

It was always going to be Peter.

Pretty much. The next Spiderman reboot will be Peter, and the one after that.

You tryna start a race war bro?! You tryna divide this country?!

I love Miles. He's a wonderful character.

But I'm fine with seeing Peter again. Maybe we'll actually get a Peter Parker that's from the comics, and not whatever McGuire and Garfield were doing (I liked McGuire's Peter, as he had a nice puppy dog pathos about him. Garfield was a terrible Peter Parker, very good Spider-Man. McGuire's Spider-Man wasn't very good, mainly because they curbed the quipping).

If Tom Holland can deliver a likable, underdog Peter, then I'll be very happy.

I also hope they introduce Miles Morales as a supporting character in the solo Spider-Man film, and have him grow and develop over the course of the Holland movies, and then have him get bitten by the Spider as the stinger for the end of the second movie, and have him and Peter both being Spider-Man in the third one, with Peter trying to mentor Miles and teach him to be Spider-Man, with humorous and awesome results. Basically, a buddy movie with Spider-Men. And Miles can spin off in his own trilogy if the character resonates on screen as a supporting role. I just want to see a movie version of Mile's costume. The cosplay stuff people are doing looks wonderful, but I wouldn't mind seeing it in a film, with Hollywood lighting and special effects. His costume is one of my favorite Spider-Man designs.
