Downloading now. Remember, if you have the iOS version, you get the tvOS version free! Will record footage, here's hoping 2 is next!

It was funny to find out why these versions never came to consoles and PC, even more odd though is why it never came out on Nintendo's Wii U.

Couldn't you do this with the Android version since like forever ago?

I don't think it ever got a specific TV android/Nexus release, just mirroring/ dumb compatible port.

This is a fully, native tvOS build made for TV in mind, no mobile reference or features whatsoever. First time I've seen an exclusive home build of this game, which is what a lot of us have been waiting years for.

Now here's to a console release!

Everyone even remotely interested should definitely pick it up; his ports are easily the definitive versions of these games to me now, even better than M2's 3D Classic versions

you're over selling this. It's the exact same interface that shows up if you hook up an iphone to a tv and use a mfi controller. The interface to these games already don't show mobile references if they detect you're using a controller. When you play the android version on a nexus or shield, you don't get mobile references.

"A lot of us," or just you? There's been ways of getting that version of the game on TVs, and this one isn't any more special than those.

Guess I am gonna wait forever for a Steam version or even a console one...nice for who have an iOs device I guess.

Is the android version good and is there an easy to use a real controller?

yes, it's great

you can use any bluetooth controller, or USB controller, including Dualshock 3. They also sell android specific controllers. The game will also accept a bluetooth keyboard as input (arrow keys to move, space bar to jump).

Indeed! i am secreting hoping that Christina Whitehead's Sonic 3 & Knuckles becomes a thing someday too.

A lot of us.

Using a cable on iOS versions introduces artifacting due to the way the lighting HDMI dongle works, airplay causes lag, android versions, depending on fork and hardware, can sometimes have a combination of these.

A lot of us have been clamoring for a PC or console release, at least something that wasn't mobile, a build specifically made for the screen in the living room or desk. This is that version. Better late than never I guess.

Took some quick footage. Cannot wait to unlock Knux in this.

It's no more that version than the Nvidia Shield version is. It's the same damn program.

finally i can play sonic the hedgehog on my television
this is something that was not possible before

But this is the new, wide screen version with a built from the ground up engine

this is like only the third time it's been possible to play that on a TV!

Can't imagine this will work well with the remote, but if I get a controller at some point this'll be one of the first things I fire up.

i guess do u, but like... is anyone actually excited about this other than u lmao

I'd be excited for a console port or if I owned the Apple TV that runs this. Ever since Sonic CD was ported to 360 I wanted the other games rebuilt in the Taxman engine. And they were, but only on mobile.

Same for Crazy Taxi with the real music - mobile only. And I just don't play games on my phone.

You changed the box art to the US?!

Gotta keep that classic Japanese box art.

So 90s:

I really need for them to do 3 and & Knuckles like they did the first two.

Sonic CD also got that treatment.

It actually works quite well with the remote all things considered, though a controller should be used if you have one.

You can either slide around and click, or hold it horizontally and slide around and press the play/pause button to dash and jump.

I am hoping that Crazy Taxi's mobile port comes to tvOS, that would be nice.

Not unless the Nintendo deal allows them to, which seeing as Lost Worlds got a PC port, I can only guess SEGA forgot about these games.

Your post doesnt make any sense since sonic CD is already on steam, x360 and ps3. These taxman versions arent even in any nintendo device, maybe you are thinking about M2 versions on 3DS that are other thing.

Its just Sega being dumb, not anything with Nintendo.

Taxman hinted on Sonic Retro that during the time these ports were made, SEGA had made their exclusive games deal with Nintendo, that left SEGA of America unsure on the matter but they wern't allowed to release these ports on rival consoles/platforms. As to why these versions didn't come to Wii U he never said but the 3DS was because M2 were already working on their versions of the game.

Now, the exclusive contract is over, SEGA Europe ported Sonic Lost Worlds to PC and the status about the Taxman versions of Sonic 1 and 2 are up in the air, he's still allowed to update the iOS and Android versions freely and submit when he wants.

Awesome. Downloading now. :D thanks OP.

I really want Sonic 3K :(

Damn, Michael Jackson Estate.

With Sony buying Michael Jackson's estate, is there a greater possibility of them letting Sega use the original music for any ports and remasters of S3&K? Sony and Sega are on good terms, at least video games-wise.

Also, what is a tvOS? Never heard of it before this thread. I'm still waiting for a console remaster of Sonic 1 & 2.

tvOS is a unix-based OS which is a blood relative to iOS which itself stated off as a fork of OS X. It is what runs the Apple TV 4th gen, and it is relatively easy to recompile iOS apps to tvOS apps.

The widescreen support on this version is a big deal, y'all. You can confidently go fast and see obstacles coming before it's too late to avoid them. It absolutely makes the games more enjoyable IMO
