Is Kotaku in danger of shutting down?

Thinking more on this unless we get another Zoe Quinn scandal probably not. A big portion of the hatred spun out of Klepek strongly siding with Zoe Quinn and anti-gamer gators.

Also When Patrick was apart of Giant Bomb they were all on one podcast. So if you don't like Austin don't listen to the Beastcast.

Is Patrick a guy who hates anime games and always talked about them badly in podcast or am I mixing him with someone else from Giant Bomb ?

Sorry, you don't use that word by mistake or in private unless your racist. Again, it's weird people are standing up for him.

People saying they still like him is weird I agree. I think he's a scumbag, but that doesn't excuse other scumbags doing highly immoral things to him.

Again, private situation. If a person is upset and emotional about something, they might say the craziest things. I've heard completely level-headed people say the most amazing things when under stress or while they were upset about something.

Which one is a better reflection of character: the manner of how one conducts himself for 60+ years, or the one incident where his private life is invaded and videotaped when he's clearly upset about something? I'm gonna say that the first part is more important. (Have to add that I have not seen the video and have zero interest in seeing it. Only know what I have read in the news about the story)

If you don't think so, wait until you are 60. Then think about every private moment of your life and all the situations that you have been in. I'm sure you can come up with something that would make you look really, really bad if someone had videotaped the situation and leaked it to people. I know I would, and I'm only 40 years old.

I'm not sure that's fair. From the sound of it Klepek acted pretty reprehensibly. He should admit his error, apologise, and study up on proper journalistic practise.

From what a couple people said earlier seems Patrick wasn't out of line.

I don't want to see people lose their jobs, but Gawker is shit and Kotaku is terrible.

The one site I would really miss is Deadspin.

Gawker sucks so I wouldn't mind seeing them go away. Patrick is a good egg who will get another good job somewhere else if Kotaku folds.

I repeat my previous statement. I don't care how upset someone is.

It's a shame this falls on death ears to the SJWs.
lol
It was bound to happen sooner or later.

And again: if someone didn't invade his privacy you would have no idea about what he said. It wasn't meant to be heard by anyone else. Remember that when you say something idiotic in your own private life.

Well, Hulk Hogan ins't a TERRIBLE racist according to everyone he's worked with.
He's just an old guy who is maybe slightly racist when it came to his daughter that one time. Its like my dad. Exactly the same. So is my dad RACIST? kind of.....But no more than anyone else from around that time.
If you think black people cant date your daughter, you are completely racist. It means you view them as lower beings.

oh thank god he isn't a terrible racist. he's just your run of the mill racist. whew, that was a close one.

Gawker going down is a net gain for humanity - if that's what ends up happening. I'm sure they still have a lot of slithering room legally. And probably the sites themselves will just get sold, if worst comes to worst.

At the very least, one can hope for a complete editorial/ownership shift at Gawker. People have been warning them about what a cesspit they are for a long time, but they've never bothered to listen.

Well good thing I'm still a good/ok person in private.

The problem with that mentally is that anything you could said can be considered worth of punishment such as violating your privacy, even if you said it years ago, even if you said it out of ignorance, even if you don't consider it was a wrong thing to say.

Can someone provide me with a reputable article or shortly explain what happened with Jamie Walton and Patrick Klepek?

I tried to look it up myself but all I find is GG related stuff like posts on KotakuInAction which I don't trust at all.

I read this article "The Ugly New Front In The Neverending Video Game Culture War" by Patrick Klepek where Jamie Walton is mentioned but I still don't understand the context of Jamie Walton's recent tweet to him regarding the misquoting. Was the part about her in the article the misquote she's referring to? And if so, what was it supposed to be? Is it a misquote at all?

What you do privately is a better representation of your character than what you do publicly.

I hate when people try to defend racist family members by going "everyone around that time was racist"

No they weren't. And many who were evolved and recognized they were wrong.

Ah, I really wonder what type of person you are now.

What the hell are you talking about? Have you seen some of the backlash Hulk Hogan has been getting from people online? Telling him that this thing doesn't matter because he's a racist and that he's a privileged white guy.

Please do tell, what person does my original statement make me?

Because if I somehow look bad in your eyes because I'm calling out people that are trying to twist this around to make it his fault, then so be it.

Where the fuck did this come from?

lol
It was bound to happen sooner or later.

Am I the only one that has seen some of the really messed up comments on twitter and elsewhere attacking Hulk Hogan over this and trying to twist this back on him somehow? What the hell?

I am honestly baffled how I'm being called out like I said something so atrociously bad that you guys are shocked by my comment?

Patrick played and enjoyed Dangan Ronpa. He's definitely open to anime games.

Honestly I'm not sure who you're talking about. Even Jeff really liked Persona 4, obviously. Vinny and Austin both have sordid histories of being into anime.

A lot of anime games are trash and a lot of anime is trash and those dudes rag on it sometimes but... they rag on everything. I think their tone is probably more affectionate than you're hearing.

Your using a derogatory/idiotic term made up by gamergate.
Also, who's doing that stuff your saying?

I mean, there isn't going to be a reputable article about it because it's a bullshit dumb thing.

In one of the emails Patrick quoted from her, she said something like "I don't have time for this" -- even though she went on to respond to a follow-up from him. She's been playing that Patrick published something from her that was off the record... but she never actually said that she was off the record. She never requested to not be quoted. She's made out that she was misrepresented but she definitely wasn't. It's a really weird reaction from her. Papers run "decline to comment" responses all the time.

SJW is a derogatory term? Since when?

I've seen the term SJW way before gamergate even came into the picture. It was never made up by Gamergate. Your "facts" are misconstruing what I said and what is meant by it.

As for who? I've seen a comment in this thread, twitter, and elsewhere. Just look around and you will find it.

SJW wasn't made up by GG o_o. It's pretty old and people who are all for social justice created it to use it themselves. It dates from LJ times, I think.

Anyways, this is kinda off-topic

"The walls have ears." Anything uttered can be taken and used against. As much as you can say otherwise, regardless of law or social railing, this holds true and has held true for all of history. He didn't intend for anyone other than his friend's wife who he was having sex with to hear it, but that's a risk he took by uttering it, knowingly or not. Similarly, people who read about it didn't intend to discover that he's a racist asshole, but since the cat's out of the bag, they go by what information they have to make their judgment. To say people should do otherwise is not only ignorant but completely delusional.

Well I first seen it used by those guys but anyway it's a put down for people who care about social justice issues.
Which unless your asshole you wouldn't be against.

If this means Patrick ends up back at giant bomb I would be happy. I don't care for kataku. Let me rephrase that. I don't care for any site other than giant bomb. Game trailers was cool but they are gone.

I miss Patrick's weekly podcast. He could start up a third part of GB!

I know i m ahead of myself but that's how I roll

They should ask their users to donate the required amount of money, with all the international media attention they have right now, they could easily raise the required amount and get out even stronger than ever before.

Gawker is trying to publicly raise money in order to avoid bankruptcy and to get Hulk Hogan happy - that would be the perfect headline in all international media.
