I don't remember hearing any heartbeat at the end with the coffin. The dirt started to levitate though, for some reason. Didn't really get that. Does Superman make dirt fly? Is that a new power that he acquired in his brief time in Hell?

Maybe it's

Do you guys think this film will still anger the same people who criticized Man of Steel's portrayal of Superman?

Is he more of a classic heroic Superman here?

He's still supremely naive and a bit foolish, but he's definitely more heroic.

Batman fans will probably be mad because of No Kill.

It's so funny... I'm a lifelong comic nerd too and I have NEVER made that connection until this movie... but the funny thing is it finally clicked for me while I was watching but before that moment actually happened.
What moment are you guys talking about?

The official comic explanation of the month for Supes' powers, including flight, is that he uses tactile telekinesis to do what he does. He's not actually physically super strong and gifted with flight, he uses a force field around his body to manipulate the environment to do what he does. That's the reason for the levitating dirt and shit. It's also why his cape can get torn up but anything close to his body is protected generally.

So BvS's ending took some cues from the best comic adaptation of all time, League of Extraordinary Gentlemen? :p

Oh God

That was the John Byrne way, which he made sure to remind you of EVERY OPPORTUNITY HE COULD. The comics have ignored it but since Superboy exists, they haven't explicitly dropped it.

For anyone who's seen it...is the Jeremy Irons line of "That's how it starts...the fever...the rage that turns good men...cruel" almost in reference to the methods Bruce has gone to after (presumably) Jason's death and Zod's attack?

Oh God

Ah.

That should tell you how long it's been since I've read a comic.

I'm starting to wonder if Jena Malone is playing the waitress, and that scene got cut from the film for being more or less extraneous.

Didn't that diner set get photographed at some point?

That diner is where Martha Kent works, I believe. But maybe Lex propositions Martha in a deleted scene!

I thought it was revealed that Jena Malone plays Barbara Gordon? Or was that not true?

OOOOH that Jolly Rancher scene

I totally forgot about that one because it was just Lex being a complete dick and force feeding the dude candy

The audience reaction both times to when he licks his finger after haha.

Also, forgot if touched on it, and hope not a new trend, but the movie explaining to us that downtown is barren/mostly empty or he lands on an abandoned island... so we don't worry about casualties... is so meh

It was even more bizarre given that it was totally unnecessary for Doomsday to be giving off gigantic dome shaped energy blasts leveling everything in a mile or two radius.

Why did that need to happen?

Doomsday's existence and incredible Cyclops face beam was bad enough. Didn't need to go crazy with the destruction.

Downtown Gotham was vacant. Haha. Jesus. You're right. That was lame.

I didn't mind that addition to Doomsday since went into the whole he's unkillable because he just absorbs and redirects all of the energy tossed at him.

Where's the OT? It's already opening tomorrow.

Saw the movie this morning at a press screening. We have an embargo until midnight though. 3,5 hours.

Holy shit, didn't know that, either! When did that happen? I know people immediately guessed she'd be Oracle or something, but I missed when that went from speculation to actual rumor to reality.

edit: so she's JK Simmons' kid. That's weird to think about.

I mean they have a sorta similar face.

But, being Kryptonian, he was already as unkillable as Superman. You eliminate the giant energy bursts, you eliminate the need to talk about how everything is empty.

Was just about to post this. It was really lame and took me out of the movie when it happens no less than 3 times in the last 30-40 minutes.

Can't wait to see if Civil War does the same shit and has the airport be empty for whatever reason.

It's really starting to sound like the Knightmare was a cool concept that probably worked way better in Goyer's shithouse script, and the visuals of it were too appealing to let go, but could have gotten cut from this film with zero problem.

The Dark Knight: He tackles Harvey off the building, which kills him. There might be one or two others I'm not thinking of right now, but that's the big one.

The Dark Knight Rises: He kills the truck driver and Talia. Again, I think there's maybe one or two others.
It's true, narratively the sequence only sort of ties into to Bruce's fears of a Superman ruled (or a Superman under Darkseid ruled world). But it is visually AMAZING. The first shot is of Bats walking out of the bunker in IMAXXXXX and it was some Mad Max levels of crazy.

If you're all about trimming story fat then yeah it could probably go, especially since it probably confused the general audience more than impressed, but it to me it was one of the best things Snyder has ever shot.
