I was gonna say, I think that if SS is better received than BvS it might actually pull their focus away from the big three and towards some of their less well-known properties.
I think Suicide Squad will be much better received. Will Smith + Ayers + Joker + a different tone and concept from any Marvel movie or any other DC movie. I think it will be received in the same way Deadpool was, because it'll be something different. A comic book Dirty Dozen about villains? That's new and hasn't been done before

Well, I mean both beating it critically and on par commercially. This is all assuming BvS underperforms or SS overperforms (or both). SS was probably always going to be better liked amongst critics than BvS, though I hadn't expected it to be to this degree, it's audience response that's got me curious.

OK, HOLD THE FUCK ON.

MovieBob's review said Batman lightens up on Supes because he too has a mother named Martha.

Someone here tell me this movie isn't that stupid and that MovieBob missed something.

It gets even better than that when they find out that the first letters of their first names follow right after each other alphabetically they decide to go out on a double date at a local ice cream parlor

I remember ages ago watching DVD extras for the Incredibles, and Brad Bird or whoever was talking about a deleted dream sequence. He said something like 'a dream sequence is almost always you trying to convey something you could do in a much better way'.

Apparently this movie has like 5?

Superman says "save martha", because that's the only thing he can say with bat's boot being on his throat.

Then Bat gets all confused and shit.

Then Superman repeats himself, cut scene to Wayne Mausoleum and you see Martha's headstone, cut scene to killing of Bruce's parents (so that the audience is reminded that HEY both mom's have the same name)

Then while Bats is asking Supes "WHAT DO YOU MEAN BY MARTHA?????", Lois comes in and says it's his mother. Then all the fighting from just a minute before is forgotten and Supes and Bats become friends who trust each other.

It started strong. It really did. I liked the premise, Gadot, Affleck, Eisenberg, Irons and Cavill.

Fucking Doomsday. Snyder has ideas that I like, but fails at executing them. The cameos were pretty fucking dumb, but I am looking forward to Aquaman and Flash. I would rate ot below Man of Steel, 6/10. That can change though, need to sleep over it and eventually watch it again.

The Knightmare scene felt so out of place, like what the fuck. Batman killing didn't bother me, the explosion didn't either.

And fucking Pa Kent gets a dumb scene again.

Worse than MoS? You like MoS though right? I hated it, get the sense I'll like this more.

As with everything Snyder does, it could have worked if it had been properly prepared. Instead he just tries to cram a ton of plots and ideas and scenes into a movie and the result is jarring. It's a shame because I feel the movie would've been a lot better, maybe great, if either (the right) ten/twenty minutes had been cut or sufficient scenes had been added.

Sounds like a fucking SNL skit.

Well, 2 of them are illusions and 2 are dreams.

Wait, was that supposed to be Flash?

I don't know nothin' about the plot. But the time travel bit from Superman 1 was supposed to be in Superman II. If a character is indeed capable of time travel, it just ruins a plot that isn't prepared for it (Supes I&II were filmed back-to-back IIRC).

Yep. Of course it was the Flash. With some mechanical attachments on him.

The whole suite looked weird, so I had no idea who it was supposed to be. Completely unnecessary scene by the way. They should've just cut the whole Knightmare sequence, as well as the various Meta Human hints/scenes. Completely unnecessary. Fuck it, all those dream/vision sequences should've been cut. That fucking Jonathan Kent scene.

Y'know, what if they just like... stopped? I don't mean because of weirdly coincidental comicbook history, but because like... of actual characterization.

Superman only wanted to stop Batman, not really kill him, but when he sees himself losing control and just about to take Bruce's life, he stops, backs up and refuses to fight anymore. Like he just can't let himself do it again. Then Bats, confused, goes up to Supes and just punches him in the face, screaming "Come on! FINISH IT!" And just keeps punching Superman who is just not responding anymore. And then Supes realizes that there's something more broken about Bruce than he realized. This isn't a vendetta, it's a death wish. Bats can't deal with the guilt of having lost not only his "work family", but Jason. And he would rather die facing an insurmountable force out of some misled justification than have to live with his pain.

Like... Supes would just talk Bats down. I dunno.

if flash can time travel why didn't he interfere when the kryptonians attacked

huh

huh

That's what's confusing. Was it time travel? He appeared in Batman's dream, of Batman dreaming of a hellish future. Adding the second layer of dreams muddies it.

Superman tries. First thing he does is say "Bruce, listen. We're being played. I need your help." Batman doesn't listen.

Ok, I don't think the movie is great, but the Martha bit is excellent and I'll take that to my grave

Supes is literally about to die. Batman beat him, got his boot on his throat, the whole nine. He tried to talk Bruce down at first, it didn't work, so he naively thought he could go half-ass when Bruce was going full tilt. All he wants is to save his mom.

Bruce hears Martha, and flips the fuck out because he's haunted by that moment for his whole life, and is completely confused. Lois comes in to explain it, and that snaps Bruce out of his confusion and rage to finally see sense.

It's a fantastic way to end that fight, using a coincidence that's been there for like 80 years.

As a Superman fan, every new information about this movie makes me less and less interested in watching it.

Nah man, you see their moms share the same name.

Makes them pretty much the same person when you think about it.

I much prefer them going that route than just having Lois intervene and fix shit. It's basically a built in way to get one or the other to realize how far they've fallen down.

Also, Bruce literally shits on Clark from a great height once he starts winning because he doesn't see Clark as a human being. Knowing he has a mom changes that.

Who calls out 'Martha', Superman?

Supes does at first (Lex kidnapped her and will kill her unless he kills Batman). It freaks Bruce out because he's a complete wreck of a human

It's not a very good characterization of Superman. Needs more positivity and less, uh...snark?

The whole Martha bit is a great idea, but I don't think it was executed well enough. Yes, I know there were two flashbacks that specifically show his remorse for and inability to deal with his parents' death (and Martha in particular), but the scene felt a bit too abrupt.

So how do Clark and Bruce leave it after the fight? Do they shake hands? Does Bruce help him up and promise to save his mother?

Sort of. Bruce promises to save Clark's mother and tells Superman to deal with Luthor.

Batman is a shitheel in the fight. He wants to inflict as much pain as he can.

Sounds abrupt. Does it flow better on screen? "Sorry for nearly killing you. I'll grab Martha, you grab Lex. Meet you at the Doomsday placenta!"

Not exactly. A real letdown of the film is never getting Batman and Superman as bros. Superman trusting Bats to save Martha is a huge leap of faith. Batman's side is handled better. The killing and branding? He gives it up for Superman's sake. Not handled terribly well.

There's scenes earlier that set it up, notably Batman's flashbacks/visions, but the scene itself is a bit too abrupt. I didn't mind it though and I liked how psychotic/broken down Batman is in the movie and that scene in particular, but I think it's definitely divisive.

Really curious now how the extended cut will be received. So much criticism on the ending or the awkward stuffing together of plotlines... I wonder how that'll play with more time.

Obviously it's down to what you found fault with. If your complaints are the whys of how the fight goes down, Batman killing, that sort. If you like the film and find it flawed, as I do, I believe the extended cut can help tremendously. However, the idea the extended cut is, you know, already cut and rated is worrying.

Btw guys, how do you liked Gal Gadot ?

It think she did a good job, like the two scenes where she's like grinning because she knows thats going to be a good fight.

Saw the movie this evening. As a Batman fan, 36% RT is still too high for this pile of shit. They seriously took away Batman's no-kill rule. WTF. He doesn't even try to save enemies, he kills them without giving a fuck, and also tortures them. And then the scene where Batman uses a gun to kill the guy with the flamethrower. Just a big "fuck you" to us Batman fans.

They also didn't really get Superman. The first time Superman and Batman met, Superman let Batman get away and said something like "Consider this an act of mercy". What. Is this some parallel universe shit? Would he have killed Batman on a different day? And the way he was portrayed in the movie was also just bad. When I think of Superman, I think of a noble and inspiring hero, a beacon of light. Not this.

She was great.

You guys noticed how the doomsday fight was about to start and the milltary evacuated Metropolis in 3 minutes, they then went to a uninhibiated island and went then to the one place in Gotham, where nobody lived xD

Ah, and please tell me who the guy from Bruces Vision was, the timetraveler or whoever he was.

The Flash.

Gotta admit though, the movie got me hyped for the Wonder Woman movie.

The Flash in some shitty mecha-suite apparently. If he wears that suite in his movie I'm walking out.

I hope in JL Henry Cavill actually plays himself. He is the perfect Superman. He just needs to be himself and the thing that people doubt him will probably stop, because he died you know.
