Figured this would be a good exercise. Made a quick UI animation concept:

Hear it with sound for that extra OOMPH.
- Contextual actions/buttons
- Click down on left analog stick for weapon wheel
but....what would control the camera?
HDMI cable not included with the NX, confirmed!
Great more shit I have to buy to make this POS work.
games are rendered on a x y axis. curious if anyone has done the math on how much rendered image is lost under the nipples and around the stewie.
if you factor in your hands even more image is lost which means a lot of the units rendering power is going to waste simply to have something that looks unique.
They could have games in the 16:9 area rendered in full resolution but the area outside of that a bit less, I don't know.games are rendered on a x y axis. curious if anyone has done the math on how much rendered image is lost under the nipples and around the stewie.

Add the controller on the desk.
You need a TV, a house to put the TV in and electricity too.
Also an internet connection which is not included
About the "I have to look down!??!" Crowd:

They can expand the area of the buttons like this if they wanted to so one glance down when you start the game and you'll know where everything is.
Seems like a non issue. You don't have to look down to see where the ABXY buttons are
Awesome mockup man, but overall I really hope this doesn't turn out. Just seeing the sword button as a touch command gives me the willies.

Great, thanks!April 27th at the fiscal year end briefing where an insider confirmed it will be talked about in some detail.
They have to, since they're going to be telling investors how they plan on making money they year, which they specified will be mobile and NX.
It's not going to be a full reveal but I'm sure we'll learn about the reveal date, final name, and if it's a console or handheld.
Representing virtual buttonsBut there are no buttons next to the stick on the leaked pictures?!

That's like worrying that this was to happen.

Have we discussed the HDMI cable?

Could it be connected to the controller? What does the string on the connector say?
Is this some Asian charset?
Why have the last pages discussed it as being real? did new info arise that I missed?

The ability to fully customize the bottom screen was great. What else would you have preferred? A fixed menu with stuff you didn't personally want to use crammed in there?Uhhhh
And despite that they had to create the CPP and put a Nub an New 3DS. If thats not a passive acknowledgment that adoption of these changes is "mixed" then I dont know what is
I would have traded that second screen stuff for something better in a heartbeat
This is what I thought was going to happen. The buttons would pop up out of the screen so not sure why people are saying you have to look down on the screen constantly.
does it matter if it's a handheld or a console controller if it plays the same games?

Just for clarification, Nintendo's FY 2015 Financial Results Briefing is tentatively scheduled for April 28, 2016 (JST). I made a countdown a while ago, this corresponds to Pacific time:April 27th at the fiscal year end briefing where an insider confirmed it will be talked about in some detail.

Source: https://www.nintendo.co.jp/ir/en/library/events/160203qa/03.htmlAs for new businesses, we will present further information when we go into details about our forecasts for the next fiscal year. We do not plan to speak about NX today. We continue development and planning efforts for NX in preparation for launch, so it will require additional investment.
Next person to complain about the screen being covered up needs to be banished from the planet
I'm intrugued, I try to keep an open mind with these things so I'd definitely be interested in trying it.
Either way, it would be so easy to accidentally touch a button on the screen that you didn't want to touch. Not good for intense games such as smash bros.

The analog nub was a poor decision. I own a N3DS and I hate the nub, but it is what it is.
Touch controls like this will actually help avoid situations like the nub and ccp in the future. If they can adjust the UI and put whatever is needed in whatever configuration is needed, it'll help avoid adding more buttons or features to hardware updates.
I'm not saying they'll pull it off, but the potential is definitely there. I'm excited to learn more about it.
Hmm. Lets assume this is real for a moment. Seems really strange that Nintendo would get rid of physical buttons in favor of touchscreen ones. They say they don't want to compete with Sony/Microsoft, but now they would just be competing with Apple/Samsung, companies that invest billions into research and development of touchscreen devices yearly. Does Nintendo really think that an oval screen and two joysticks will convince fans of touchscreen gaming to leave their cell phone and purchase this device? Obviously they wont, so the only market left is the traditional console market. But that market wants face buttons. To me it sounds like this device/console would simply be unable to attract customers, so I'm on Team Nintendo Can't Be This Stupid.
Heck, maybe I'm wrong. Maybe this is real, and there really is a customer base for it. I'd be fine with that, a successful Nintendo means a Nintendo making lots of first party games, which I will play with the inevitable pro controller.
That's what I was wondering too. But... Doing something absurd just to look unique really sounds nintendo.
No, it's not.
I think Nintendo wants to go after three markets with this device:
1) Clash of Clans type of games.
2) Traditional games that do not require many buttons or powerful hardware. Games like Final Fantasy Dragon Quest or indie games.
3) Their own games
Having the finger on the button without actually pressing it is pretty crucial in many games. Its like pre-loading the button to make reaction as fast as possible. Touchscreen does not really allow for this option. Once you press it, mistakenly or not, you pressed it.

Not with Apple's 3D-Touch technology, where you have to put force on the screen to press, and then get haptic feedback.Having the finger on the button without actually pressing it is pretty crucial in many games. My iPhone has it. Press hard for preview. It knows how hard ur pressing. If it gives some kinda feedback your on the button, then doesn't activate until you press down, it could workHaving the finger on the button without actually pressing it is pretty crucial in many games.
