Dark Souls III [Import OT] Kindle the fire, one last time

[Silver serpent ring is somewhere in the bell tower that you have to buy a key to unlock at Firelink, right?

about the ring:

[vague]
it's in the upper part of Firelink, you have to buy the key for the tower and explore the area.

[more detailed]
behind a hidden wall on the rafters, same place where you find an Estus Shard.

Isn't that in Dark Souls 2?
was that in the dlc? Haven't played it. edit- oh yeah, it's the same. so it's 1 HP instead of 50% like in Demon's, I guess it's not that good.
Demon's had a very similar miracle, Second Chance, which was abused as you would expect, especially in pvp.

Some spoiler free early impressions for those interested in things like that (although I might have to jump out of this thread because it's filled with spoilers)

- Movement feels so nice, feels like I'm moving about as fast as Bloodborne with knight armor on.

- I got totally lost in the first real area, for a long time. I didn't necessarily find it difficult, except for the limited estus. I couldn't find my way around because the area is big and parts look really samey. I was slightly disappointed by this

- Playing 2H without a shield seems way harder than before, lol. I gotta step up my game, and I haven't memorized enemy attacks etc yet, but I've found myself using my shield.

- Game looks gorgeous but blurry (XBO). Performance is... ok. One time my framerate dropped to some slideshow shit for a couple of seconds, and there were a few other less egregious drops.

I don't really mind the challenge, but it feels like the game is not really designed for a playstyle that relies heavily on rolling, especially when fighting fast humanoid enemies.

I feel like they needed to make that style
more challenging, it might be harder at the start, but enemy A.I. and their moveset wasn't really prepared for it, in past games, specially DS2.

While harder I still found suitable the playstyle, just need to get more time to learn the ins and outs of it, specially of wind up animations that caughts me off guard, parrying knights is something that I'm slowly learning and I see it a very necessary skill for shieldless.

I need this ring.

Anyone know how many souls the
dragon
drops in the first city part? I need to grind 20k and I have the arrows if it's worth it.

EDIT: Where is the best spot to stand to kill him, too.

Yeah you might be right, gonna try to parry more instead of rolling.

Got the game yesterday. About 6 hours in so far.
It's most linear Dark Souls in the early hours.

It starts easy, not much difficulty, specially in the first bosses. Things start getting complicated with the normal enemies that deliver a lot of damage. I lost thousands of souls to stupid normal enemies because of the chunks they take on your life. Its not unusual for a common enemy, that gives like 30 souls, to take 1/3 or your life on a hit.

Dark Souls III Asylum Demon Ashes | Xbox One
Dark Souls III Curse-rotted Greatwood Boss | Xbox One

Frame rate is complicated. Slightly better on PS4 in the Xone. (got the game on both platforms).

Good graphics, nothing absurd, but worked well. He kept the betas and changed some things in the same scenario which was a pleasant surprise.

Dark Souls III Vordt of the Boreal Valley Boss | Xbox One
Dark Souls III Ludex Gundyr Boss | Xbox One

Graphics are good, nothing special, but they do their job well. I liked how they changed some things in the same scenario of the beta. This was a pleasant surprise.

Dark Souls III Ludex Gundyr Boss | PlayStation 4

Still, I can't think that Bloodborne took some of the surprise for this game. Its brand new, and awesome game, but some of the situations just fell like "been there, done that" specially due to the graphics department, as the game looks a lot like Bloodborne sometimes.

God damnit
Abyss Watchers
are hard ... I'm getting outspeeded even though I'm using the dual wielded swords, I'm constantly on the defensive =/

Is there any quicker way back to the boss that's after the A
byssal
W
atchers
? I've looked around the
Catacombs
but only found a gate that's sort of a short cut?

edit: nvm, just killed him second try.

I don't think this is really a spoiler just a question about a game mechanic, but someone totally new to the souls games might not know or want to know.
Do enemies stop respawning when resting at bonfires after you kill them a certain amount of times like in Dark Souls 2?

Really enjoying this so far, my usual magic build seems to holding up alright as well. Just gotta get used to some of these cast times, haha.

No.

I'm very happy to hear this. I got the gold coins hoping to farm a bit but honestly I feel like I'd waste them if I had to rush learning the monsters.

So I tuned in to Peeve's stream last night,

and saw Patches, yep he's back. Someone claimed in another thread that he was onion bro. Does that mean "Siegward" is really Patches all along, or were they making that up? If that's the case, that's the biggest troll ever.

Any advice on a pyro build? I chose a pyromancer and I've never played one in a souls game. So far, so good, but do you need to level both INT and FTH? I'd rather choose one and also level DEX.

There's a ton of great improvements to the game structure. I like the split Estus system and swapping their distribution, and having spell vendors earlier in the game, and having four different spell classes available right from the start. Definitely a right step towards having more builds viable from the start of the game.

What did you guys think of the OST? I think it reminds me more of Dark Souls II than the first game.

Much prefer Majula and Firelink Shrine (DS1) to this game's hub in terms of music; boss fight music is great.

My spoiler-free impressions after 11 hours:

It's good, but it feels like the most "samey" Souls game yet to me. That may be in part due to having played Demon's through Bloodborne lots over the years but it doesn't feel like it's trying anything particularly specifically new or inventive. The first few areas/hours come off as less cohesive in comparison to Bloodborne IMO. That being said, the game still has great combat, a satisfying gameplay loop, and I think the difficulty is pretty spot on in terms of being challenging without being brutally aggravating. It feels a bit harder than Bloodborne, though the first few bosses aren't particularly challenging.

I agree with the sentiment that the areas and game get more interesting as you get into it, but my hype and enjoyment are more muted than Bloodborne and DS2's launches; your mileage may vary. I felt Bloodborne had a much more cohesive and tight first 10 hours, but again, just my experience with it. It's still a Souls game and I think most fans will enjoy it, but I may temper expectations a bit from expecting GOAT, etc. Naturally, take everything with a grain of salt as I haven't beat the game yet.

took about 5 attempts farming the first
black knight
i've come across and i used up all my gold coins but I finally got it to drop something -
black knight shield.
saw someone else using the armor, it looks so good

I don't know what am I doing in this thread but can anyone tell us if the map design towards the later part of the game feels rush and linear compare to the early part, like Bloodborne does? This is what Bloodborne dissatisfies me the most. After finishing Yaharnam, the dev work seems to be rushing to the deadline.

any youtube channel with long videos which are beyond the point orobos is on his playthrough on youtube (
tree boss
boss spoiler)?

Just curious, is there a teacher for sorceries who can be send to firelink shrine, I only found the teachers for pyromancies and miracles, did I miss something?

are you supposed to fight
that giant boss from the trailer
later in the game ?
he tanks everything just like vendrick did
i do like 40 dmg each hit and he has loads and loads of hp

What did everyone start as? I ended up going Warrior and (at work so no progress today) I've only really added a shield to my equipment as of the first area boss.

Yes, in DSIII it scales off of both. For damage you'll want some levels in both, but I don't think there's a faith or int requirement to wield it or to have pyromancy skills.

In other games those just required finding them and having enough attunement slots, and most of your damage came from upgrading the pyromancy flame rather than your stats.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong and things have changed in DSIII though.

I heard it's a gimmick fight. There's a special sword you pick up in the area like storm ruler from DES

Hmmm, I'm at 16 for both and at least early on the firebolt is destroying things. I'll start leveling dex to 16 to use the Ugi and go from there... I always screw up my builds anyways.

Welp had my first crash on Xbox One. Hope this doesn't become a problem (Though I played 12 hours yesterday with no crashes)

I'm okay with this and it's expected as they're going from BB's fresh take on gothic/cosmic horror back to their well-worn dark fantasy style. I love their dark fantasy aesthetic, I think it's truly peerless, but after so many games with this aesthetic and without a break between releases I expect it to feel same-y and offer less surprises than the previous games.

The main thing I get from the impressions I've read is that while the art direction is really good (though too familiar), the gameplay is as good as ever. And that's not a bad place to end a series on. I'm really happy they're giving the series a rest for a while and I'm glad Dark Souls 3 won't be a major disappointment, but I want the next thing Miyazaki and FS do to really surprise me again.

What's the point of raising the platforms at
Cathedral of the Deep
except for the one leading to
Rosaria

Oh, and I know that you can meet (NPC spoiler)
