Yeah, but it's likely going to be to handle increased color support and scaling for 4K TVs, as well as built-in warp correction of second signal to TV for VR.Every source has mentioned more power. Every single one.
Mmmmmm smells like an avatar bet
You got me. We'll see.
Any truth to this one?So from what I was told the unit is indeed a slim. Devs are on board and OK with it. Haven't heard if ps4.0 will see a slim version because I didn't ask. Was also told to nit purchase a ps4.0 and just wait.
My guess is this thing is coming out this year. Should have specs soon. The only problem I see is how do dev teams optimize for this new unit when their primary console will be 4.0?!?
One dev told me he producer told me he doesn't agree with this decision as it is just turning the console into a pc. Who knows. I will update later.
So, is it going to run games better or not?

Now this we know isnt true. Every source including those of you that are going with Zhuge has said that there is a power boost. Also Sony wouldn't be briefing devs at GDC about USB ports and 4k media
Well, if you look at any of my other posts, I was open to more processing power to "boost" game performance. I am not saying that will be included or not. However, my main point I am trying to make is this will simply be the Slim refresh, with a few new features. Maybe more processing is included in that, but will simply replace the standard PS4, it is nothing more than a slim refresh, with some added features or bonuses. This is not some "new" PlayStation that is going to fragment the userbase as has been brought up.
Nearly every console has had a slim version released. This will be the PS4s slim version release, but it may have more than your standard die shrink and smaller console footprint.

The Last of Us 2 - exclusively on PS4K
The meltdowns tho

Pretty much. The question is how improved is the processor? Every source has said there is a power increase. I'm guessing a nice little bump but nothing crazy
We still don't know shit about shit. But probably not.So basically, I do not have to upgrade.
So basically, I do not have to upgrade.
What resource does anti-aliasing uses? Mad AA + an upscale to 4K would look pretty good.
As long as there isn't a PS4K exclusive game, I'm ok with it. Hopefully it will push the price of the PS4 down.

I'm going with it having a 3.68 tflops GPU from moving to 14nm from 28nm & fitting 36CUs where it used to be 18 CUs.
Just a reminder, the PSVR is back up for preorder on Amazon.
This doesn't make sense, if it's just a slim which has been done before then
1. Why wait?
2. Why is it closer to a PC?
3. Why do devs need to be ok with it?
Is that enough for 4K AAA or no?
That doesn't change it that devs will have multiple hardware specs to address and that the current owners are getting something different. Gb color did this. Failed.
It fractured the heart of early adopters, that's for sure.
1. Wait for what?
2. One person said "if sony/ ms is going to go forward with small incremental hardware revisions then they might as well put their games on pc."
3. When games are made they will have to add extra support towards the 4.5 version which I don't see any dev wanting to be since they will focus their attention on the lead platform being either ps4 or xbone. One way I can see a work around is having the pc version be the lead platform for all games.

1. Why wait to purchase if it is exactly the same but slim?
2. A slim wouldn't be incremental unless they've thrown a new APU in it?
3. A slim shouldn't need extra support unless the hardware has greatly changed?
That's not how computers work...If the PS4.5 has roughly 'double' the performance of the PS4, then you're literally talking about running games at 30/60fps.
Given that most modern titles are designed & tested to run at 60+fps on PC, it's unclear why a developer would have a particularly hard time with that?
If the performance is under double, it's obviously a problem... Whereas if performance is much over double, then developers could turn on more PC options if they really want to (but that would require more testing etc).
Or, they could even ship at 60fps, and on the PS4.5 show the full list of PC graphics options.
So, is it going to run games better or not?
1. Well we don't know the specs just know it will be in slim form. My guess is 4.0 will also see a slim model.
2. I completely agree with this but again we got nothing on specs.
3. Added effects, better lighting better textures. That all takes time. The concern is will devs just make the same game for 4.0 & 4.5 or will they put in the extra work on 4.5?
I hope so. Personally, I wouldn't buy it for 4K media alone. I would be all over it if it meant stable framerate. So, is it going to run games better or not?
Ahhh ok I can see that POV and mostly agree with it. I think this will be its "slim" with 4k media support and a nice GPU boost but nothing crazy. Basically I'm guessing 3TF GPU or less because I'm betting they dont want to up the power draw
Is that enough for 4K AAA or no?

They could just increase the gpu clock speed to 1000mhz. Thus 2.3 TFlop GPU, give 4k bluray playback (thus hdmi 2.0). Also hopefully b/g/n/ac WiFi and the ability to fit 15mm height 2.5" Sata hdd. Come on, do it Sony!!!
Don't really understand the purpose of this. They might as well make this PS 4.5 something akin to a PC with modular, upgradeable hardware if they are going to fragment the market.
Said it before, I'll say it again - I don't like this one bit. Makes me extremely reluctant to purchase a console at launch ever again if there's bound to be a superior iteration of it released in two/three years time.
