Batman v. Superman RT Thread: like standing ovations in rain

Yeah, I love it. My wife thinks it's too hammy, though. Especially Luthor. But that is just how I want a Superman movie. I don't know, I understand why it didn't do well with the general public, but I am a big fan.

I like it too. Singer was making a sequel to the Donner movies, which I respect. That admiration of the original Superman movie means a lot to me and it was echoed in this review someone posted earlier today:

My earliest superhero memory that I can summon up with any clarity was watching the Richard Donner Superman with my dad, and there’s this amazing shot after Pa Kent dies. It’s Clark standing in a wheat field with Ma Kent talking about how it's time for him to go, to be Superman. My dad, in a not-infrequent moment of poignancy says "People say it’s the yellow sun, but if you want to know where Superman really gets his power, it’s those fields."

I'll write up some thoughts in a few minutes as I just got home

But my initial impression is thats the least fun I've had in a theatre since Battle Los Angeles

It was somehow not as bad as I expected, yet far worse at the same time because of entirely different reasons than I anticipated.

But is it better than a specific Iron Man movie? That's all we really want to know. ;P

Saw it with my boyfriend and sister. Neither of whom are huge comic book nerds but they humor me so they've seen the cartoons and listen to my rants.

We all enjoyed it about the same as the Marvel movies so I don't quite get where critics are coming from? By enjoy I mean, I watched it once in the theater, had fun, and might watch it again if it's on TV. Which is kind of what I've come to expect from both Marvel and DC films. (I also really disliked Nolan's take on Batman so there's that.)

I really don't like Zack Synder either and there was some stuff I really disliked in here. But a lot of it is be being a crazy Batman fan with very specific wants than anything else. Will probably post more detailed response later.

I try to go to all the big releases on opening night. This is the first super hero movie that I can remember not receiving applause when the credits hit. Instead, the crowd loudly shit on this movie. Word of mouth is going to be brutal

Just came back from seeing and it was....pretty good? Like I'm honestly perplexed at how horrible the reviews are for the movie. Feels like it would have gotten around 75-80ish.

I expected this when it ended, but surprisingly about half the theater clapped :/

That shot and scene actually stood out to me as well the first time I saw that movie. Seeing the sun rise from the Kent house and the wide view of those fields really just emphasizes the size of Clark's journey and responsibility while showing how down to Earth he really is despite his alien nature.

Superman Returns is amazing. In a just world we would have many sequels to it starring Brandon routh by now.

I dunno about amazing, but in comparison to MoS(and from the reviews, this movie) it doesn't have to be.

It had plotting issues, but it got the character and tone right on, and Kevin Spacey is the perfect Lex Luthor.

Thing that offended me most about avengers 2 was tony starts the movie in this armor, said to myself as I see him in the opening shot, " what the fuck, did iron man 3 not even exist?

Why wouldn't he be? Iron Man 3 was about him tackling his obsessions, not outright quitting. It ends with him saying, "I am Iron Man."

Zach Snyder wishes he could make a movie as good as Iron Man 3.

I would not watch Iron Man 3 again if it was the only movie showing on a plane, and I was sitting in front of a crying baby, and there was no Skymall catalog, and it was night. I would sit there staring out the dark window listening to that baby cry before I would subject myself to one second of IM3.

Speaking of Superman Returns, even with its mostly positive reviews (if not outstanding) and its 200 million domestic (only 6 million less than Batman Begins, and almost 75mil more worldwide) Warners considered such a result to be unfavorable enough they decided to shitcan the Superman vs. Superbrat sequel Singer had planned, and move down the path that led to Man of Steel getting made.

So if this movie ends up pulling a domestic total that's closer to Man of Steel than it is Dark Knight Rises? I absolutely think Warner Bros would consider putting a halt to whatever they had planned and trying something different. I don't know that they'd do it, but I gotta think it's an option on the table.

Then I hope the one thing they learn from this at least is that people want to see Wonder Woman fight monsters. I'm still kind of surprised I finally saw Diana fight on the big screen.

I saw it. I liked it. It wasn't great but it was enjoyable, definitely not a bad movie.
There are some parts in the beginning where the editing choices were a bit odd, very hopscotchy.
Eisenberg's Lex isn't terrible it's just not Lex, I kept thinking of Jim Carreys Riddler lol.
I also think the movie does a very poor job of setting up Justice League.
