Batman v. Superman RT Thread: like standing ovations in rain

Just saw the film. While it definitely has a lot of issues in direction, I wouldn't call it a bad movie per se. These aren't the exact renditions of the characters you may all know from comic books, but it definitely was a sight to behold.

Got back a little while ago...

It...is...so...bad.

Sigh...I don't even know where to start, and won't since this isn't the spoiler thread. But even going in with very lowered expectations, it was still soooooo disappointing and just trash. Batman and Superman deserve so much better than this.

MoS was way better than this. I don't even...we'll always have BB and TDK (and even TDKR) I guess. I'm done for the night. Don't want to think about it anymore.

Has Armond White ever had to reach that deep in his devil's advocate toolbag before?

I don't trust these positive people. Tell me why it's good without mentioning its needlessly over the top action. 70% of critics wouldn't rate this movie less than a 6/10 if it was good.

Just came back from the film. The film is slightly better than MoS and the final action sequence is cool. Other than that, this was just an ordeal to watch. The editing and pacing is horrible, with scenes just stitched together for no apparent reason. The Justice League setups are just shoehorned in. And Jesse Eisenberg's performance is cringeworthy to watch.

And as I predicted, my head is pounding. I'm so glad it's over.

Jeff Cannata's review almost made me tear up. That guy is always so upbeat even on stuff he doesn't love. To see him so disappointed as if his entire childhood felt meaningless all of a sudden was heart-breaking :(

I thought he was more like The Riddler

I initially felt that way but the way his interactions were with batman throughout the movie ended up swaying me more towards joker. Especially a certain scene which nothing will be spoken of helped me feel this way as well.

Doomsday actually felt like the most dangerous of all of these comic book movie villains. Yes there are plenty of powerful ones in the MCU but none of them actually felt this crazy so I will say that about this movie.

I see it Tuesday. Needless to say this sounds like it is probably the proverbial end of DC movies for a long time. It's Warner's own fault... why did they rush it? Batman/Superman was a great move. Every choice they made, every shoehorn to rush Justice League... was not necessary. Now nobody will give a shit. And DC comics are just in a different league to me. What the fuck.

What do people who have watched it recommend to eat or drink before the showing?

Whiskey? Caffeine? Xanax?

Reposted from OT

I hated Man of Steel, thought it was mess.

I'm indifferent to this, I liked the first half with the blowback from Metropolis getting wrecked and wondering if Supes can be trusted, Affleck is GOAT and dude outacts everyone, he is too good for this movie. Wonder Woman is good too but she's the DOFP Quicksilver of this. Junkie XL did a damn good job scoring this.

But...

-Lexenburg sucks, I could not take him seriously.
-Supes gets his own movie stolen from him and it's easy to see why, dude is bland as fuck.
-The actual fight is okay but how it ends...man, Dusty Finish.
-The climax is okay but it's a clusterfuck. The ending is gonna be up for debate.
-The film wants to tell 4 different stories and trips over itself doing so.

This film isn't a 33% RT, it's not awful but it's not good either, it's meh.

C+

So this was a whole lot better than Age of Ultron.

Honestly, only Iron Man 1, Winter Soldier, Avengers 1, and Guardians were definitively better than this on the Marvel side.

Well, let's see what suicide squad does. It might help with the recovery time.

I had less hopes for suicide squad. The trailers for that movie do less favors than they did for BvS

There you have it folks. BvS is better than ironman 3.

Just got off from the movie. OMG, i can't believe in what I saw. Just stunned at Snyder's work. He understands these characters(granted creates a new layer of myth around them). There were scenes that looked straight out of Batman V Superman Apocalypse, Batman V Superman: Public Enemies, The Dark Knight Returns PartII. He did it! Can't wait for Justice League.

This thread is pretty entertaining in a way because of this, but sad in another for the same reason.

I can't wait to repeat this whole cycle if Civil War gets bad reviews as well.

Nah, Civil War is going to be so safe, it's wearing triple condoms.

Superman Returns is amazing. In a just world we would have many sequels to it starring Brandon routh by now.

Yeah, I love it. My wife thinks it's too hammy, though. Especially Luthor. But that is just how I want a Superman movie. I don't know, I understand why it didn't do well with the general public, but I am a big fan.

Yet none of them are used in the context of actually trying to tell a story. That's always been Snyder's biggest problem dating back to Watchmen in that he'll do these adaptations where the visuals are on key with what's in the comic, yet the actual nuance behind the said visuals is missed in favour of, "That's cool!" Snyder seems to think panels in comics are made exclusively to look cool.

No matter the quality of BvS, Im still pretty excited for Suicide Squad.

Im not gonna lie, Im enjoying the overreactions but I do wish people could be more honest about what they like or dont like.

For example, I really enjoyed ASM2, but I wouldnt tell people its a good movie or even recommend it really. I recognize it for the mess it is even if I liked some parts of it a lot.

They look good together because Affleck’s puffy-chin adult petulance (recalling his role as TV’s Superman George Reeves in Hollywoodland) may be the moodiest performance he’s ever given while Cavill’s virility (so chiseled it may well be from another world—the world of Sean Connery knock-offs) fits him to yin-yang completeness. Their confrontations disprove the delusion that men cannot make love face-to-face, the same way men fight. (Gay political pundit Andrew Sullivan makes a cameo appearance protesting “Every act is a political act!”)

And smoldering Cavill wears the Superman uniform like a second skin. Costumer Michael Wilkinson’s brocade Superman suit is successful fetish gear—textured fabric with sequin octagonals invite you to touch that thin line between drag queen and stud. Male intimacy in this film gives new meaning to the old phrase “iron fist in a velvet glove.”

Phenomenal.

I wish I had read this before I saw the movie. I could have spent my time looking for homoeroticism instead of simply being bored out of my skull.
