Adult Swim & Production IG Partnering for FLCL seasons 2 & 3

I wanted more when I finished watching this many years ago, so it's quite a surprise knowing that we're basically getting a full series of this.

Wow. I haven't really watched this but Adult Swim funding anime is awesome. There are tons of great shows that died on Japanese TV. Now they have a second chance. FLCL wouldn't have been my first choice but I hope this is a success so Adult Swim does it again.

This is the only way we can get Spice and Wolf season 3.

There's a lot of lore in FLCL to expand on but I'm afraid that will retroactively ruin the mystery of the original series.

Just please. I hope they're doing this because they have an idea for a new season and not just to bring back a classic. Plz IG. Plz.

As much as I like FLCL.

There is absolutely no chance of this matching the original. Those members of Gainax aren't even around and who knows if the Pillows are onboard. Let it go
It's not going to be good.

Please be good.

I'm so torn.

The thing is that FLCL isn't a show about lore. Its plot is super secondary to everything else.

If the new seasons are about "answering questions" they've already missed the point.

Fuck man, with American dollars funding this, if they can get back some of the legendary talent to come and work on this, it actually could be really fucking good.

Exactly. People don't want answers, they want to draw out the answers they develop themselves by rewatching it 3-4 times :P

If the show creators feel that there's more they want to show I'm okay with that as long as they have more to say along with it.

Really doubt the actual creators of FLCL are even involve here. One of the writers is at Bones and the other working at Studio Khara doing the Eva movies a few others in other studios as well. These two new OVA series will likely be helm by new staff.

Anyways not sure why people even want more FLCL? It had a beginning a middle and an end, what's more to do? It was complete. Different from Samurai Jack that was cancelled before getting an actual end.

I really can't believe it's getting a "sequel" after all these years. Is it even possible to capture what made the original great after all this time? Are The Pillows on board? How will they possibly continue the story? What made AS even consider making more episodes? So many questions.

Ehhh

I'm pretty iffy on this. I don't think a sequel is necessary. Not to mention, Gainax aren't even on board (though that's mostly a moot point, since Gainax aren't even the same studio they once were)

Guess we'll just have to wait and see

I read the thread title, scrolled down past it, took a moment to process what I've read, decided that I misread it, scrolled back and re-read it to see that yeah, that's the confirmation of FLCL Season 2 coming. And season 3 too.

I'm not gonna get my hopes up. It's been over 15 years. FLCL is possibly the best anime of all time, it works incredibly well and I don't think there should be another season. But I'm sure gonna give it a shot.

Wut?

Not sure how I feel. On the one hand I think FLCL was perfect the way it was, it didn't need anything more but on the other more could be good?

So the last thing Yōji Enokido wrote was Captain Earth and that was 2014

Anybody have any idea what he's been up to since then?

Forgot Frisky Dingo Season 3.

It's a presidential year so I rewatched Season 2 recently, fucking shame they didn't do more with that show. It's fantastic.

He was working on the anime adaptation of Bungo Stray Dogs, the manga about Japanese authors. Debuts this season I think.

Really hope he comes back, the novelizations of FLCL he wrote were fantastic, and really fleshed out that world.

As long as the action, style, and humor hit the mark we'll be good.

Worst case scenario this is horrible and we forget about it. Best case scenario is more of my favorite anime ever.

Still have my doubts on the quality of a FLCL squeal even after this bit of info. Still worried over that plot synopsis they put out yesterday. There are better ways to do a sequel and I don't think a retread is one of them. I hope I'm proven wrong.

so we get more flcl?
are the pillows involved as well?

No idea, but the Pillows weren't that "involved" with the original FLCL either. All but two of the Pillows tracks on the OST were previously released on various Pillows studio albums. So long as [as] and IG can secure the rights there's no reason they can't do the same thing again. And since the Pillows have been recording for over 25 years now, there's a ton of material to draw from.
