Star Citizen Alpha 2.0 | The 'Verse Awakens

Hey everyone.
Always wondered, is a low UEE citizen number good (in terms of reputation or whatever)? On the official forums, it seems that most people posting regularly are in the 100k, but I rarely see any with a low number (I'm in the top 500 to not be more precise).
Seems a bit weird to me.

Anyway, glad to see this game getting (mostly, not counting the "scam!" guys) a nice reception on those forums.

Doesn't mean anything in game, nor should it.

Cool, thanks for the confirmation.

I should perhaps elaborate that you will get all backer milestone rewards, so it does have some effect in game. The rewards go to anybody pledged before the milestone though. Pledging right before the milestone and pledging in the first minute of the Kickstarter are the same as far as they're concerned.

Those rewards are also little more than trinkets in the grand scheme of things. Kind of like how being a subscriber gets you lots of hangar flare. Even dumping thousands of dollars into the game doesn't elevate your official in game status. (It does get you a lot of ships though. ;p) Reputation is something everybody is going to have to work on from the ground up.

2.3d, the new updated sniper riffle is just mean. I was hiding out in the upper outer ring at the security post. Was able to 1 shot a guy getting out of a SH on the far side. That has to be a good 800-900m away. (measured it out with a 2 ships) around 1270m. Not bad.

* I read the patch notes - push max range out to 1km- So I must have measure wrong.

Waaaaaaa. So now there's a pistol, rifle and sniper? I haven'the played since 2.1. I really want to get in there and try it out.

2 Pistols, 2 Rifles, 1 Shotgun, 1 Sniper. You can get them at Yela pretty easy now, I am finding 2-3 wrecks each time ago. Each wreck has 4 boxes with a mixture of weapons. They show up as glowing green dots from a long way out.

Sounds like the SF is going to be $300 for Hangar Ready but could go up even more when flight ready ($25-50? * just read it maybe $400 when flight ready). Gemini will follow suite ($450?). Per RTV today.

I bet the BMM is going to be at $500 and Caterpillar $350-400 when they get flight ready based off of size/functionality.

Xi'An Scout is also going up $20 today. So if you have any CCU's to one in your hangar do not melt them.

Bought a 6700k/980ti rig from that HP deal so I'll finally be able to check this out when it arrives in a few weeks. Can I jump into someone's game that has a Constellation when that happens? I've been lusting over that ship since the 2001-style commercial.

Yay, new plans for tomorrow morning... Tour the Starfarer! Probably M&KB the Khartu for a bit in the sim as well, but mostly the Starfarer.

The Starfarer is just a massive beast!
Just look at this, like the map of a fps level:

The first of the bigger ships, and just the starting point. Heck, it's not even the biggest MISC ship. The Endeavor is going to be massive in comparison to the Starfarer. Then there's the Carrack, 890, Orion, Reclaimer, Genesis, Hull D/E, and the Idris. Finally starting to see/experience the sense of scale that the big boys will bring to SC.

The Starfarer is stunning!! Never mind exploring the inside, I had to run all around the expanded hangar looking at the ship from every level and angle, because the detail is amazing.

Just as an aside... I noticed a slight tweak to the lighting in the rest of the R&Y hangar that isn't in the expanded part yet. The lighting in the elevator shafts is a softer blue colour that I think looks really nice... (I don't think it was always quite that shade of blue??) You can see the difference in the expanded hangar where it has not been implemented yet.

I'll bet all those crewman animations were made for Squadron 42, so they're kinda showing those off in the video, too. Looking pretty alive!

That's so cool. I love maps and diagrams.

Wish I had that in my hangar so I could get a real sense of the scale. Oh by the way has the updating method been adjusted yet? The only reason I've stopped trying new builds is because of having to download the entire package each time so that's pretty much my most wanted feature at the moment.

Downloads are still in the big packages so small updates are still 8-12GB :( They said they are working on it but no eta yet.

Interestingly enough, the overall full download package has slowly been getting smaller... the 2.3 download is just under 26GB. This from what used to be +32GB only a few months ago.

**edit to add...
That is because they made some changes to their build system so that it culls more packages that aren't needed. Things like pure SQ42 assets are much more likely to be removed now than they were before.

That's a good plan for all these alpha downloads... at least until they can properly deal with the cryengine "pak" files. Thank you for the info!

After wandering around the Starfarer for a bit, I realized the area where you EVA to the lifts isn't sensibly designed. You come in from the gravity power room to the area where the EVA suits are. The lifts are to either side, but there's nothing to seal off that area from the outside when a lift is down. I don't think it's a good idea to have the area where you put on and take off the EVA suits depressurizing randomly lol. They could make it so there's a door at the top of the lift which segments it off from the main room and doesn't open unless the lift is up. Currently, there's flexible ducting going through where the wall/door would have to be though, so that part would have to be redesigned. The only other solution would be if there was an Idris like force field, but given the main cargo bay doesn't appear to have that sort of advanced functionality, I can't imagine some minor lifts would.

Aside from that, it seems to be relatively well designed. Plenty of clipping bugs to fix and other parts to make operational though. Most of the clipping seems to come from the crawlspaces. Easy enough with crouch/jump type actions to break through the geometry. These big ships with advanced floor layouts are going to take a lot of play testing to get solid. Since they're virtually little levels in their own right, there's just so many areas where they can break.

Also, unrelated to the Starfarer, I had to delete my user folder because the Khartu was spawning without engines.

I had to delete my user folder as I crashed about 3 times in a row just getting in the PU. Good to go after that.

Holy FUCK.

I am in awe right now.

It is silly big inside. Lots of people upset about the price going up to $300-400 on the official forums. The amount of detail(in/out), size, and amount of work justifies the price. Stunning ship inside and out. My hat is off to CIG. Can not wait to see the other big boys coming down the pipe-line.

Those maintenance tunnels give me the creeps though I can imagine the facehuggers loving them....

Newb question
i'm confused why it costs real money for a ship? is it an Alpha thing?

When the game finally is retail will you be able to play and eventually get that kind of ship with ingame currency?

I'm mostly interested in the S42 i think.( singleplayer or coop wingcommander story driven game part)..but thats not gonna be done till 2017 ? so i got lots of time to wait..or have I gotten that all wrong.

It's a crowdfunding thing. You buy the ships to support development of the game. As every ship sale says, you'll be able to buy them in game using in game currency, so nothing is needed aside from a base level pledge. That said, buying SQ42 now by itself or a SC starter ship no longer gives access to the other. So if you wanted to spend time in the SC alpha until SQ42 hits, you'll want to get one of the combo pledges.

Also, SQ42 will be out at the end of this year if they hit their goal.

So glad 2.3 went live, did a tour of the Starfarer and it is one beautiful beast. I got lost in it so many times, but damn is it something else. Can't wait to fly it with a whole crew and whatnot.

This Starfarer. Ohhhhhhhhhh my. I love it. I can't wait to tour the other big ships when they come out.

Since they raised the price of this ship to $300, any chance that they'll do the same to other ships as well? Like, should I jump on unmelting my Hull-C before they decide that it's worth more?

If you have the full ship melted (not a CCU to it) you are locked in at what price you paid for it originally so no rush. I have a Hull-B and Reliant Sen sitting in my melt pile that I will eventually buy back.

It's amazing how tiny you feel the closer you get to the Starfarer. Then tinier still when inside it. Especially in third person camera mode.

I can only imagine how imposing the Idris is going to be when walking up to it on foot. The cap ships in this game are going to be a sight to behold.

I'm looking forward to seeing how they handle the agriculture domes on the Endeavor. Walking through one of those greenhouses and looking up to see the star you've positioned overhead should be quite a scene.
