Yeah I thought about it last night, and I still like it.
I know I am in the minority and my taste is probably suspect as a result but I did.
It was an art film with 3 major DC storylines as the subject. Batman, Superman and lex are 3 mentally damaged people who are working out their issues, but I like that. We have Marvel for blind hero worship formulaic films. I love them. This is a very different type of film, full of discordant editing, actions and motives.
The thing that I find strange is so many comic fans not knowing the back story to all of these scenes.
Lex has been manipulating batman, superman and the government for a while, possibly since before mos. He was an abused child with hella daddy issues and a genius intellect. He is also way up on the spectrum and massively driven by his own demons.
Jesse's delivery of him made sense, mopy superman makes sense. He was involved in a fight that killed thousands and is having a crisis of character, his only happiness in life is his Mrs and helping people. But people keep trying to make him into something he's not, a messiah an icon. This is messing with farmboys head! He is a small town guy thrust into global politics and worldwide cultural impact. He needs to get to being the world's biggest boy scout and he has to have that strength of character built. In this universe he's not there yet but you can see they're getting there.
I mean it's on the nose but they literally Bury the old superman.
If that's not a big sign that underlines "We're moving on from this point" I don't know what is.
Batman was great, killing Motherfuckers because he is old mean cruel batman? Driven to do terrible things, paranoid, delusional and was prep time as fuck. Sticking the spear in the ground just to show, this is where this shits gonna end? I don't think you could get more Frank Miller than that.
There are holes in this film, but I like what it wanted to do and apart from aquaman gazing at the camera I understood what it was doing and enjoyed it.
It's empire strikes back, the next film will be an interesting rebirth.
