Batman v Superman Spoiler Thread: Don't believe everything you read, Son

LOL where did you hear that?

There's still one JL member that is missing if they are using the "unite the 7" banner:

Superman
Batman
Wonder Woman
Flash
Cyborg
Aquaman

Honestly, I don't think Superman is meant to be included in the 7. The additional 2 could very well be Shazam and a Green Lantern. We likely won't see Martian Manhunter.

We won't need a standalone Batman movie apparently since it seems Justice League is secretly BATMAN (and friends).

Fuck the friends tho. Those appearances made me even less excited for justice League than I was for avengers (and this is coming off of me feeling meh about Thor, Captain America and practically despising whedon so....wow)

It was anti hype. Batman, despite some moral problems, and Alfred are A1 tho. So to see more of them and Gordon does have me a wee bit excited.

I'm really curious to see if there'll be a fan edit that attempts to salvage it. Let the scenes play out without jumping around so much and also remove like an entire hour from the film. There might possibly be a somewhat decent 90 minute movie buried in there somewhere.
I think you can easily condense the movie to a 1 hour 45 length and still get the gist of it while moving at a decent pace. I am pretty sure if you remove all the JL stuff and the dream sequences you can shave off 20 minutes right there.

The African secret protoype weaponry subplot was also superfluous. Felt like a "Amy Adams is too big an actress to have 5 minutes of screen time, so we need shit for her to do" decision.

I agree. The Senate hearing should've just been about the Metropolis destruction like the trailers were leading it on to be.

NO shit! First good thing I saw Snyder do on the franchise... letting affleck be the main focus instead of the actor that just cant act (Cavill)

I think he can act, but the script and direction he's getting don't work well for the character.

Cavill had lots of charm in The Man From U.N.C.L.E.

They should have gotten rid of that Martha sub-plot, or moved it. It was a smart piece of writing, but it fit as well as the cheery "Welcome to the Planet" fit at the end of Man of Steel; not organically at all.

You could probably do better justice to the characters if you have the Batman/Superman fight play out like it does and have Batman cut Superman's face with the spear, then throw the spear down: "I want you to remember this, Clark", with the whole fight being to put Superman in his place and make him human.

Then you could have Superman confronting Lex, being all "Your plan failed", and pull the Martha card there. "Face your Doomsday, alone, or I'll kill Martha". Then you could have Superman ask for Batman's help, Superman could go off to fight Doomsday and get wrecked, you could draw parallels with the Zod's fight and have him so focused on protecting civilians he gets his shit kicked in. Wonder Woman could help out, then Batman could bring the spear, which would kill Doomsday and cause Superman to succumb to his wounds.

But the film wants to make Batman v Superman happen to the detriment of the characters, and is so scared of the Man of Steel criticisms, that you get this ultra-destructive fight that doesn't have the heroism of Superman slugging it out with a monster that'll destroy a city if Superman can't stop him.

Am I crazy? I thought the movie was quite good! I'm a diehard comic fan.

This gets 30% and Furious 7 gets great reviews? Am I in bizarro world?

Destruction happening all around you.

And somehow you have to wait for your company boss to ring to TELL you to evacuate the building.

Okay then...

I'm with you friend. I love Furious 7 for the pure ridiculousness, but deep down its not very good.

This movie on the other hand, if they add some extra bits to scenes early on with the Ultimate Cut this is a top comic book movie contender to me.

Disclaimer: I've never read an actual comic in my life, but am engaged with the lore of DC and Marvel.

For all it's flaws, F7 is still a very enjoyable movie, because it doesn't take itself serious.
Whereas BvS takes itself super serious, is dour, and never really enjoyable or fun.

The funny part is, I felt more empathy for the Wayne employee who's telling everyone to evacuate, then prays to himself when he realizes that the building is going to come down, than I did for most of the supporting characters in the film.

One of the reasons I love Game of Thrones is because it's so dark and depressing which is one of the reasons I like Man of Steel and BvS. I hope they don't try and make the future movies light and 'fun' like the Marvel movies. Not to say I dislike the MCU, I love them and enjoy them more than DCEU but I do like that they're quite tonally different.

Yeah the didn't make any sense. It's like that shot in Godzilla with people still being in their office building when that MUTO flies by the window.

Wait. The dirt at the end moved, right? I mean, Superman's alive...

Correct. But JLA isn't just going to start with Superman crawling out of his coffin and going "Yeah, I'm not dead."

If anything he'll rise from the grave and go into hiding or something. Or have amnesia. It'll be something that keeps him out of the main plot for a while.

I think there is a place for a dark, moody super hero movie that takes itself seriously and isn't light hearted. And the moment someone makes a good one, I'll let you guys know.

This is a movie that probably benefits from reading as many spoilers as possible. Not only to stifle expectations but also to understand what the hell is going on, especially with that Flash / future dream stuff.

I'll never understand why Flash appeared to Bruce in a dream though. Time traveler, fine. Dream walker, why?

Watchmen worked.

But then again, it was the end of things and nobody tried to build a cinematic universe out of it.

We already had those...

They are called the TDK trilogy and Watchmen (Director's Cut).

I thought it was fine especially regarding the Batman vs Superman itself, through the third act stumbles in place, and the Justice League shove ins were kind of bad. That scene with Diana looking over the goods sent by Bruce was just... lol. That type of scene should have been left as a post credit scene, rather than stalling the battle that was going on. Honestly I was kind of meh at least half of Diana's appearances actually, but hey the trinity being together was still cool.

Crap, I forgot they actually pulled a wake up from a dream only to still be in a dream bit. Like, why did they do that?

Jesus no one told me how GOAT This is my world and Wonder Woman's guitar theme were. Hans the Don. Seriously TDK level breh's

The score was another aspect that was really half-assed. They just keep repeating "What Are You Going To Do When Not Saving The World?" over and over again. During Clark's sacrifice, all the scenes with Lois, the flashback... I kept asking myself where the actual score was.

The WW theme is admittedly damn good, but it's practically the only new cue in the film. TDK was light-years beyond this in terms of music. Hell, Junkie XL turned in amazing work on Fury Road, but it just feels so muted and unmemorable here.

Because time travel is one of the worst concepts in fiction and this gives them something of an out.

Although everything Flash told him was completely meaningless in this film, given Lois had no use in the film.

I RESPECTFULLY disagree, Furious 7 is absolutely stupid. It's ridiculous and laughable. Sorry, I LOVE 5 and 6. 7 just pissed me off.

BvS does take itself too seriously. It's also too long in the beginning and pontificates a bit.

BUT,

I thought the motivation for the big fight was one of the most tense I've watched in a while. Affleck was really great in the role. And Superman was presented as a tragic character, which was interesting to me. Also, Lex was well played. He's definitely seen some shit from Darkseid.

I don't know, but the movie was quite sinister, which raises the stakes in my opinion. I mean there's a fucking suicide bombing and they nuke superman.

I love Marvel and they make great movies but I just know everything is gonna be hunky dory by the end.

As a matter of fact, these are all tragic characters, WW has been through WW 1 and seen the worst of humanity, Batman has become disenfranchised with his own justice code and Superman feels completely alienated from the world. He's constantly looking for acceptance and gets none.

I'll be thinking this one over for a while. Which is good, right? Ha

I feel like we saw different movies. The motivation for the big fight was "But Superman is super strong and I had a bad dream where he ruled the world."

Are people pretending Cavill had a lot to work with? Halfway through the movie his conversations are never more than 2 sentences long with him staring pensively.

Either that or yelling.

lol the people getting upset at Zack's comments about JL straight up feel like
No, I genuinely don't like what he is saying. I already had little hope for the DCCU pleasing me, but the the response to BvS and the shit Zack is firing after the release make me upset as a DC Comic fan who was excited for a DCCU at first.

Hell no.

As much hate you can place on the movie... the dream was not the main reason why Batman was motivated to take on Superman.

The plans to steal the Kryptonite to take on Superman were WELL IN MOTION before that dream even took place.

Batman wanted to take out Superman because Superman wiped out a damn near city by just fighting. Batman has gone through 20 years of Gotham where good guys kept turning bad (like say Two Face). Coupled that with the loss of his employees at the hands of Superman and the Senate bombing in which Superman was presumably involved (from his eyes) and with Luthor egging him on with the mailed messages ("you failed your family" works on multiple angles for Batman)... Batman was more than ready to take on Superman well before that Knightmare sequence came into play.

To Batman, even if Superman is good now... doesn't mean he will always be good. To him it's very likely that Superman is one bad day away from killing millions. And he doesn't want to take that chance.

There was an entire dialogue with Alfred where he goes over why he wants to do this just so the average movie goer is able to pick it up in big bold letters. That's why the nightmare sequence could've been taken out entirely... Batman was already well on his way to take on Superman by then.

God damn this movie was hilariously bad...

The amount of completely idiotic plotholes and writing left me ,i swear, speechless!

Holy shit that was bad. Yes i know it is a super hero flick but I have seen good super hero films and this isnt one. And before i get the "marvel fanboy" treatment, i will add that i consider Avengers pretty much shit as well.

If you guys want to have fun on this, a friendly advice, turn of your brain once the movie starts...
