Another Screw Gamestop Thread: Preorder bonuses

I stopped shopping at Gamestop somewhere between not having enough pre-order items and employees gutting my pre-order copies of a few games. Well, unless someone gives me a gift certificate.

Amazon is the way to go. You always get your pre-order bonus and if your UPS comes early (mine doesn't, hurry up fucker I want some Heavy Rain) you can get release day shipping and have the game early in the day.
If they got all the preorder bonuses, I would agree with this.

And no, GS.com is not any better with bonuses than stores are. I've had to go to the store to ask them for a bonus on more than one occasion when I was stiffed by the online store.

when i picked up my copy at gamestop they failed to give me my preorder code. thank god i sat in the parkinglot to open my heavy rain case to embrace that new game smell.

before i left, i realized... OH SHIT where is my code!

ran back in, the guy kinda gave me a hard time at first, because he thought he already gave me one... but no he didn't. he was busy trying to get me to preorder final fantasy. but in the end, i got it. yay.

Well sorry I'm buying stuff from a warehouse of a store you don't like.
You're fueling the scheme publishers and/or said company devised that robs other consumers of "exclusive items". And sometimes those items are more than just a 1337 armor set that's useless after level 20.

I could care less about the warehouse or the sign above the store's front door.

You can always get your money back on pre-orders. If they don't have what you paid for, then get a refund and tell them you are going to BestBuy or something. If you allow them to screw you they will. I guarantee they'll start getting more of their slips if everyone that was supposed to get one just goes to another store.

You preordered for a reason, don't give them your money if they can't follow through.

Speak of the devil, just got a Gamestop email:

The First of 4 GameStop Exclusive Fighters Revealed

If there's one thing we love, it's UFC fighting. And getting GameStop Exclusives. And bringing you late-breaking news. Okay, that's three things; so we'll combine them. Pre-order UFC Undisputed 2010, and you'll get four GameStop Exclusive UFC fighters. We'll reveal all of them in due time, but today we're proud to announce that one of them is James McSweeney, who recently won his bout in The Ultimate Fighter: Heavyweights Finale. We'll reveal another fighter next week.

Ridiculous. I don't care for UFC, but four exclusive characters. That sound like a lot of content. This trend has got to stop. If two people buy the same game at different stores, they should both be able to access the same content.

That reminds me I need to unsubscribe form their emails.

Kind of on topic Gamestop rant...
You seriously have to say "No thank you" 10 times before you get out that store with all the shit they offer you to preorder. Perhaps my problem is the thank you part.
I don't go to Gamestop often, but I've never had a problem with this.

I shop at Amazon now...

Also, I like Amazon's pre-order bonuses.

Free $20 video game credit for pre-ordering Bad Company 2?

Heck yeah Amazon.

Long ago, I preordered Wind Waker at a Software Etc. to get the Ocarina of Time bonus disk.

I never got my bonus disk.

I haven't forgotten.

I preordered Valkyria Chronicles and was told that they never got the bonus artbook. After a week or two, I overheard an employee saying that he had gotten his.

I preordered Demon's Souls CE, and was told they only got three copies and that each of the employee's had taken them. Considering that I was the first person to preorder the game at that store, I was pissed.

Never again.

Just got back with heavy rain and I was talking about the pre-order bonus with my manager and apparently while we had 15 reserves they only sent us 5 codes :lol Apparently they sent us an email a while back stating that any reservation made post 02/11 wouldn't be guaranteed a bonus code and they won't send more. I'm wondering how many reservations we had prior to that date though, but I wouldn't be surprised if this sort of thing happens more often than not and no one reads the damn email.

I knew someone that worked in gamestop years ago, they stole every bonus item that wasn't nailed down.
They all do that. If they see something they like most will take it. Some stores are pricks won't give you anything ever. My friend preordered 5 games after Banjo 360 came out and they had a shit ton of Banjo 64 codes left over. He asked for one since none of the games he preordered came with anything and they refused.

I pre-ordered Mirror's Edge PC back in Summer of 2008 at Gamestop. They were giving away Messenger Bags much like the one seen in early builds of the game and the first mission to anyone who pre-ordered. As I've never had a problem getting pre-order items at my local Gamestop (helps to live in Middle of Nowhere, TN), I didn't think I'd have much of an issue getting my bag even though the console versions of the game came out a few months ahead of the PC version. I even asked the manager if they would have enough and she said that corporate should ship enough bags to match pre-orders.

Winter 2009 came around and I got a call that my pre-order was arriving so I called my local store and made sure the message was correct, then headed down to pick it up. Upon my arrival, they hand me my game sans pre-order bonus. I ask about the messenger bags only to get a dumbfounded look from the same manager I had spoken to when I pre-ordered the game. I raised the issue of being told there would be one with the game and that the entire reason I pre-ordered with Gamestop was to get the bag. She tells me that they ran through their supply when the console versions released and offered a refund on my pre-order deposit. I refused and purchased the game anyways as I still wanted to see how Dice's foray into FP-Platform played. About an hour or so after I got home and was installing the game, the store manager called again. They had called a few of their stores about an hour away and found some spare bags. She said they would be shipped out the next day and they would be at the store in a few days. I ended up getting my messenger bag I so dearly wanted (and an extra since they had 2) and will continue to shop there for any video games that aren't on sale. I also made sure to call the corporate comment line and leave some positive feedback for that manager who made sure Gamestop kept a customer that had shopped their for years prior.

Say what you want about Gamestop, but I have always had a good experience from them (I never trade-in games though so I don't deal with their low credits).

A lot of places gave the discs out at the time of preorder, thats the problem.

*buzzer noise*

You're wrong. They didn't send me my Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon art cell and I had paid tax & shipping for that fucking game...plus the gamestop tax price of $34.99 to begin with.

I preordered Pokémon HG/SS though, and Platinum as well (and had no problem getting the figurine last year). I'll just go there when they open in the morning and I'll be fine.

Gonna go preorder Fragile soon too :D

My cousin snagged my a Dialga & Palkia DS Lite T-Shirt from a while back and I just got it this year. Awesome pickup, he also got me some Sonic Chronicles styluses but I already had them from when I bought the game.

Like he said, I got fucked out of the MGS4 preorder bonus when I ordered online.

I have not preordered anything in a long, long time.

Maybe that's because not much comes with any Wii preorders. Then again, I do try to stay away from GS.

None of them in my area did, even though I thought they were supposed to. Anyway, I ended up going to CompUSA with a buddy and we both got the discs for $5 as we never picked up the game there.

Not the case. I pre-ordered Metroid Prime Trilogy the day the pre-orders went up. Got an email saying Gamestop didn't get any posters so I wouldn't get one. Then I read on here how everyone who pre-ordered in the store got their poster and shirt. Plus they can't pack things worth a shit. One of the DS Castleavania's I pre-ordered came with some stuff, they were completely crushed and the disc snapped. I emailed customer service about it and got a basically too bad they didn't have any to replace it with.

I understand all the problems people have w/ GS. I've had similar problems, but my local GS is actually a pretty decent place. They've managed to keep a handful of employees around for quite a while, so they recognize me and treat me like a person. I think they've realized if they just let me shop and stop trying to force things on me, then they'll keep my business.
