Is the PS4K a threat to PC gaming?

Because the only reason I play on PC is because of the graphics, OP.

You are right, it's the end of days.

(Nothing you said made sense.)

Consumer choice is going to be driven by consumer values

PS4k changes nothing outside of offering an upgrade path instead of the DIY option on an open platform like PC

And hell even with PC you can choose to pay for a mindless upgrade and do nothing yourself

Paradigm isnt being shifted folks

"What about other games? A lot of PC gamers only play a handful of games for years, mostly f2p. That's the reality."

Dota and LOL are still PC games.

Seriously some of post in this thread make me want to go insane.. also reason hl3 isn't out is because it needs that 4k on consoles. E3 gonna be great.

No, the gap in performance will be shortened for awhile but there will always be faster/better/bigger hardware to come on the PC.

For the PC gamers that want the latest, most powerful rig? No.

For the guy that builds a low or even mid tier PC, that's tired of tinkering? Sure, I can see those people showing interest.

Of course that all depends on price, reception, compatibility, and rate of new hardware releases.

PC isn't losing sleep over it, that's for sure.

exactly

Their is no threat on wither end of the spectrum. There will always be choice and space in teh market for those who care to have options and for those who want it built ready out of the box

Oh I love you GAF.

Is the inverse to me, the possibility of a PS4K makes me more and more tempted to build a PC Gaming machine.
Qft, though I already have a decent gaming pc.. My likelihood of buying an 'upgraded' ps4 is a lot less than buying a new gpu /CPU

I mean.... All the real advantages of PC remain intact:
Cheap games
Free online
Customise your settings to suit your needs
Choice in peripherals
More types of games (bigger indie scene, mouse and keyboard games etc)
Can use it for way more things
Mods
Cheats
The list goes on.

What ever the ps4 adds it will still be a closed system and come with the same advantages and disadvantages that differentiate it from a PC.

Literally all of those things are higher on the list of reasons why i play on Pc than graphics. So true it hurts.

So what? There are a lot of good f2p games out there. And if anything, the massive amount of money those games generate proves that PC gaming is alive and well.

Maybe not on Gaf but gaming PC is already dead in a lot of places. Tablet, smartphone and console are much more preferable to the majority of people. PS4k changes nothing as most of the general public would opt for the cheaper PS4.

The opposite is true. The growth of mobile has been an period of unprecedented popularity of pcgaming. It's been growing the whole time and it keeps on growing.

A lot of console gamers only play a handful games for years, mostly FIFA, Madden, COD.

Man, I'm having fun in this thread

Its clear the the market is so large that all sectors appear to be growing are able to serve the tastes and preferences of any type of gamer

You know I remember back in the first few months of the PS4 release. There were quite a few gaffers questioning why anyone would buy a gaming PC when people have the PS4.

"All the indie devs will flock to the much easier to develop for PS4."
"Multiplatform games on PS4 will look just as good as any high end PC because reasons "
"Consumers don't care about choice"

Fun times.

Can't say I remember any of that.

I can basically asure you the ps4k won't play games in 4k other than mabye a few indies with simple graphics

This is where consoles come in, a device that can play game better than their portable devices.

I wish all the teenagers about to try and convince their mums to buy them a slightly better playstation then the one they already have instead of a laptop to help with their homework the very best of luck with that.

No unless it had native mouse and keyboard support. My entire group of friends from PC made the move to ps4 / xbone because of larger lobbies w/ the help of the xim4. Of the twenty I been playing with since QuakeGL only one logs more on steam (CS GO) then on the ps4 / xim4. It makes for alot of overclocked 390, 970, 980ti, fury x rigs collecting dust.

I honestly think if Xbone 1.5 or PS4k had native mouse/ kb built in, the majority of PC players who play FPS multiplayer games would make the switch.

If all games are backwards compatible going forward, I'd probably not invest anymore money in PC gaming other than the few exclusives that might interest me.

First post gets it.

Sony is just releasing cheap, living room ready gaming PCs that have closed ecosystems. Releasing a mid-gen hardware bump is a defensive move against the rapid spec advancements enjoyed by modular PCs, not a threat per se.

Someone gets it

How quickly we forget that even within the PC space such distinctions are made

Of course the Ps4k would make PC-Gaming non-existant. Most people want dont want to sit in front of a monitor like a monkey, patching, looking for drivers, having problems all the time, playing with inferior Mouse and Keyboards. They just wanna sit on the couch and relax, not work. And you will have most Indie-games on PS4k soon, superior Online system with free games!

And with the PS4k you will have great graphics, so most people will buy the PS4K instead of a PC now. Face it. The PC will be dead.

So it's almost like a PC, but the main advantages (dirt cheap games, Steam sales, resolution/graphics/framerate options) aren't there. And you can't use any input method you'd like.

So it's not like a PC at all. It's like a console.

I'm just trying to keep up with this thread. I'm dying here...is this the hillbilly equivalent
of the "will you purchase PS4K" thread?

Wait, let me play with you guys:
Now that PS4K will reach power parity with PC plus the fact that you can play PS4K while sitting on a couch. PC is dad!

No.

A slight bump in graphics / performance is not going to be a "threat" to PC gaming when the myriad of benefits of PC gaming remain only in PC gaming.

It's more of a threat to console gaming.

Probably.

Anyone thinking the PS4K is going to be reasonably priced & play proper 4K games is outta there heads. It's gonna be a bluray player with a few indies (and that's just fine).

Can you imagine AMD putting some new secret sauce into the PS4 making their PC GPUs look redundant by comparison & killing off their core business? Can you imagine Nvidia supplying ANYTHING cheap to Sony?

So you're saying its a PC but without any of the advantages? And with all the downsides of a console? Sounds great.

With that logic, they wouldn't buy anything as they probably already have a sufficient device for homework at home.
