PS4K information (~2x GPU power w/ clock+, new CPU, price, tent. Q1 2017)

I don't know how anyone can agree with the sacrifices part.

One thing is getting the standard 1080p30fps game and then ps4k getting whatever they want, I would be ok with this because ps4k is not fucking with me and my purchase.

But sacrifices sound like I'm going to start getting gimped games ala shadow of mordor oldgen and that's ridiculous. If that happens I'm so fucking done.
As soon as we see 30fps games on the PS4K we'll see obvious performance sacrifices on the PS4 versions. Extra power doesn't solve the problem of companies releasing unfinished and unoptimized games that try to do too much.

I guess Dolby Vision or at least HDR10 is a given since games internally already render at HDR

Auro 3D & Atmos would benefit games aswell and guide many of us to upgrade our sound setups

however it would be a huge miss for AMD not to push Sony to enable their fresh Freesync-over-HDMI

All of the "NX here I come", "PC here I come" people are confusing me.

We don't even know what NX is, and it's not as if PC's are future proof either. I smell a culture of moral panic here, when really, when this thing is revealed, it will be nowhere near as bad as some of you think.

That one makes me laugh a bit given I'm setting up to entirely replace my 2012 computer this year to take advantage of all the games pushing their graphics forward.

If people want the static PC experience, keeping the regular PS4 for the full six years should fit. It will just be like playing on low to medium settings.

What really frustrates me (if this is true) is the open admission that devs are already making games for the new hardware and that "sacrifices will have to be made to get the games running on the old hardware".

That just ain't right.
But sacrifices are already being made. Look at games like Witcher and the Division running on PC and then compare to PS4/XB1.

Also there was talk of some sort of VR lounge for the media player app which is supposed to be getting a substantial upgrade.

It was also stated that these games will in fact work for the PS4 but with considerable sacrifices made to performance.
We were also given a list of games that will be available at launch that will directly take advantage of the PS4K where the differences are and I will quote him "Significant."

For the PSVR

Eve Valkyrie
Robinson
GT Sport

For the PS4K

Deep Down (Thought this was dead)
GOW4 (This was the exact abbreviation on the sheet I can only assume its god of war 4)

Wow. 100% not purchasing PSVR now if it's going to run like crap on my normal PS4 and future games might only be PS4K exclusive.

Honestly, this is quite troublesome news. If it simply played 4k movies and up-scaled games that's fine, but future games potentially running terribly on my normal PS4 is no bueno.

I love how everyone ignores GOW4 and Deep Down. These announcements alone are enough for GAF to go crazy. But now ... Not so much xD

Some games, BIG games, could also be PS4K exclusive.

Like...just imagine how much hell there'd be IF (MAJOR hypothetical here) something like GTA6 was PS4K/XB1.2 exclusive. The market would be destroyed if that happened.

Yeah, the most mainstream game of the industry going exclusive to the models that only the hardcore will buy.

Rockstar would love to do that.

Get Vive and full PSVR for about £1300 with a free Rift if it come this year, damn, but fuck it, I'm in if VR success really well in first 6 months.

My concern is it'll be like hyrule warriors which seemed designed for new 3ds primarily and runs like shit on og 3ds.
This. Devs will concentrate on the new machine and optimise to get it as shiny as possible and the OG version will be pretty much ignored provided it runs without bricking your machine.

Would say I'll wait till ps5 but whats stopping that being replaced 3 years later by ps5k? Not liking the idea of iterations with short cycles and no upgrade options.

If true, not exactly a surprise.

Clock speed bumps and adding another GPU are pretty much all they could do without potentially creating big backwards compatability issues.

If true, I just might buy it for the 4K blu-ray player alone. Depends on how good it is of course.

Are the rumors/leaks saying release this year?

Man, so much hardware stuff that might release this year... PS4K, VR, NX, Xbox one+

If this is true, Fuck Sony.

The Ps4 is doing fine why are they going to mess with that with this bullshit?
If it doesn't affect you and can still play less flashy PS4 games vs a more powerful PS4 then why would this elicit extremist reaction?

I'd welcome every console manufacturer do this with reason. Don't alienate the user base and just program different fov or detail values as well as resolution and you're set.

I'd consider trading in my PS4 for this.

Hell I upgrade or build a new PC every year for thousands.

I think it's also worth highlighting the precedent that this will set in that a potential console purchaser now knows that their console will be outdated in X/2 number of years.

I don't like stuff like this. Console must remain the same for an entire generation.

So, bye bye console world. (Nintendo please don't do this :D)

At this point, half the games that I bought a PS4 for are already out (Bloodborne, Dark Souls 3), so I'm only remotely interested near launch if those games get a performance boost patch.

To be honest, a new console gen cycle:
- that's ~6 years total
- that has a performance boost slim version 3 years in
- But all games run on both systems
- And then the next proper gen is a new baseline for game dev...

Makes sense to me. Sucks if you've just bought a console with the old style cycle in mind but times are changing...

$500 without a trade in program?

Sony can't really think that's going to have wide market appeal outside of the more avid gamer demographic, can they? Let's hope MS isn't going the same way if this is true.

How I know this isn't a joint effort April's Fool joke from the higher ups at NeoGaf?

That would be............pretty rude to be honest. Like really messed up and not something I think the mods would do. Purposefully spreading false info on the forum is hella looked down upon and would be really messed up coming from the mods themselves.

So I'm sure you can trust this

It won't be 60 vs. 30 as that would essentially require some studios to make two separate games.

Why multiplatform games already do this on console vs pc? People keep acting like this is something strange but this is just like putting a new gpu in your pc. The old gpu will still work just with medium settings. However some of the vr games may be exclusive since it needs so much more power for some of them.

I'm calling fake. This would be the dumbest and most unnecessary thing Sony could do when they're already making so much money with the standard PS4.

Not saying the OP is a liar, but I'll bet this is either misinformation or something that gets cancelled.

Just so, so stupid.
It's definitely real, I'm afraid.

Yeah, no trust in games running reasonably on the old PS4. And I don't have the money to upgrade to a PS4K, hell, the games alone are expensive enough.

If it wasn't for FFXV, Persona 5, Star Ocean, Mass Effect Andromeda and DQXI I'd sell my PS4. Don't have a good PC either.

Maybe Ill need to buy just the NX handheld and forget about the rest.
