PS4K information (~2x GPU power w/ clock+, new CPU, price, tent. Q1 2017)

I'm OK with the idea of a mid-cycle hardware refresh, but it does seem a bit early to be hearing about this. PS4 hasn't even been out for 3 years.

This is interesting. Sony has managed to create something that is the antithesis of console gaming

It's even better than that, really. It has all of the cost of the PC ecosystem, without any of the benefits(besides performance). At least with a desktop/laptop, you can somewhat justify purchasing something nice because of the fact it has so many applications outside of gaming. This doesn't really apply to consoles. Also, with a PC, you're able to upgrade parts, without having to spend on everything all at once.

They don't even have a trade-in system planned, amazing. With phones, you can subsidize the cost significantly, not so much with this(so far).

The fact they plan on screwing over millions of people who recently bought a PS4 for the holidays will not go down well.

I predict it selling well initially, but a lot of people will be pissed. You'll have many, many moving to PC. They'll see the cost of VR and Sony planning to upgrade every 3 years and ask themselves why not just build a computer?

Also if HD almost killed Japan, you can be sure 4K will be the final nail in the coffin. Just count how many devs are still developing games nowadays in that country. There's a reason most of them now develop for mobile. I can't imagine what the costs of making a 4K game will be. This will actually limit the creativity in our industry. Less developers = less products and less innovation.
.

Japan is not going to give a fuck about PS4K. They're barely starting to buy PS4 and now you tell them to switch? Yeah.

LOL at people saying they're moving to PC.

You guys do know that PC gaming updates faster than consoles right? You're gonna be forking out more or same in the long run.

Your old card still works, and , provided you got a good one, will last you for years surprassing consoles.

Literally no reason? Uh, how about the Xbox One? Not a dev but the boxes aren't that different and if you are optimizing for the Xbox One I'm sure devs will optimize for OG PS4

You mean the XBox One which is also heavily rumored to be undergoing this very same style of hardware refreshed? That one?

Speaking realistically this should enable some really good looking VR games in a console sized package. For those of interested in gaming VR, this is a good thing. Less motion sickness. Better looking games. Hopefully, a revised move controller to do less laggy tracking.

God damn it, no. I'm ok with the idea of stronger versions of existing consoles in theory, but if there's going to be a bunch of games that are designed specifically with PS4K in mind that end up being gutted on OG PS4 that's gonna be a problem. Hyrule Warriors Legends-performance on the OG 3DS is a good example of this when gone wrong.

Again, what would be the point of people buying a more powerful system if games don't look and/or perform better? I get why a lot of people are upset but this angle I don't understand. It would make zero sense that a PS4 game ran or looked exactly the same as a PS4K game.

For sure. Remember that gif? I was certain they weren't going to pull it off with the PS4.

But with PS4K? I want my eyes melted.

Well 2x the GPU power and they can for sure get to that original render quality if they are sticking to 1080p.

Holy shit things are getting exciting again like they were during the PS4 announcement days.

Stop with this argument and read the OP. If devs are concentrating on PS4K development then there will be significant reduction in graphics for PS4 titles.

Are you comprehending what you're reading? PS4 games will still look and play the same, why would they get worse? Think, man!

This officially makes PS4 the worst console i've ever purchased, holy shit, the 400 euro Bloodborne box with some (hopefully not too gimped) downports of PS4.5 to hang on.

It also side-kills PSVR if the release dates are close enough: amazing job Sony, as if PC gaming wasn't on the rise enough.

They are not releasing AAA games that cost tens of millions of dollars to make exclusively on model that only part of the userbase will buy.

True but on the other side.

If they don´t do it why should anyone buy the PS4K ?

=> It´s just crap no matter how you look at it ;-)

1) Support PS4 => why should I buy a PS4K
2) Support PS4K => FU Sony, I already have a PS4

So, now that we're coming to the end of the OG PS4's natural lifespan, what do people think of its game library? How will we remember it in the future?

lol

Answer to 1) - You don't have to, that's the point; answer to 2) this is for people who don't already have PS4s or who can afford it. You aren't losing out.

I'm not sure how I feel about this. Especially with games rumored to be targeted for the PS4K specs. Games will run like shit on older consoles. What I like about console gaming is the fact that I know games will run decently on it, and developers will get as much juice out of it as they can.

Hopefully it's not something we see released until 2017. 6-7 gen cycle with an upgraded console released after 3-4 years is an easier pill to swallow. These consoles have only been out for 2 years and some change.

Hopefully this drives used PS4s way down in price faster than usual so I can grab one for Bloodborne and a couple other games.

You can buy mine, I got 2 for sale lol

Lets create a ode to Ps4 thread. a love in. Never seen one before lol

Sony this is nuts.

Jesus. You were winning the gen.

I'm 33. I'm out of new console video gaming if this is true. No hyperbole. No long post here kicking. I'm just out.

I've had a Console every gen since the Megadrive. I've loved it. Im just done.

And no, I don't mean the average Neogaf member. So please only answer if you know %100.

Aren't there significant software challenges here? I know the x86 architecture is here, but when software is created around a certain set of specifications (and a crappy tablet cpu, wouldn't there be tons of technical challenges that would arise if the internals get scrambled around for software that was built and tailor made with certain specs in mind?
Depends on what they use as a development base. If they plan on continuing to use the 4/One as a base and scaling the game up for the 4.5 it won't be a problem but...

Gof dammit. This pisses me off. If Nintendo gets Japanese 3rd party support I might get an NX console, trade my PS4 and wait to get a cheaper PS4k down the line.

I couldn't care less for big western annual releases anyway.

Man, I've been thinking and I'm not a fan of this at all. Might as well start saving up and go to PC gaming.

Not that this is pushing me away from console gaming, just that if I'm going to go after better graphics in the middle of a gen, I'd rather spend my money on a PC than get a whole new ps4.

If the rumors with more power etc. are true: Will Uncharted 4 get another delay? ヽ༼ຈل͜ຈ༽ノ

I still don't think (and hope), that the rumors with a massive harware upgrade are true. If yes: I don't think, that they will launch it this year.

Why you had to take FROM into this? Missing FROM's exclusives is going to suck for me :/

Well, judging by this info, we'd get the game on PS4 as well, but From games already run... not super good, so I definitely don't want to see what an inferior version of a From game looks like.

Interesting. If this is true, then would it probably launch somewhere in the last three months of the year? If that's the case what about games like Final Fantasy XV and other games ostensibly released before this?

You;'d ostensibly have games like Uncharted 4, FF15, FF14, and more running on what would be under-powered software then. The cynic in me says that would just open up a window for 8th gen remasters, and 7th gen re-remasters, making full use of a more powerful console.

I wonder if people will say "fuck you sony" when they have to upgrade to the PS5 for game xy?

I mean you are not forced to upgrade right away, if ever.

It was stated plainly and with no room for interpretation that there are developers that already have development kits for the PS4K and that they are making games that will directly target and take advantage of the higher specs of the PS4K. It was also stated that these games will in fact work for the PS4 but with considerable sacrifices made to performance.

Exactly what I was thinking in the other thread.

Where you at DeepEnigma?

As long as I can trade in my current PS4 for a significant discount on this new one then fine.

If not, then no thanks Sony, I'll pass. Money doesn't grow on trees.

Can't wait for future presentations with ambiguous claims stating it's "running real-time on PS4 hardware" when it's in fact from PS4K and the PS4-version looks and runs like shit in comparison. :/
