PS4K information (~2x GPU power w/ clock+, new CPU, price, tent. Q1 2017)

Mix feeling about that. I have the money to buy a PS4K but I don't know if I want to support this strategy... I think I'll have to wait for more informations... Maybe it's the future, but it feels weird...

How will be called the war beetwen PS4 owners and PS4K owners? Console civil war?

If its any of those chips, which are based on 28nm parts, then the console is going to melt (assuming its the same size and form factor as current PS4). I am willing to bet they are using 14nm parts which would put it in the 480, 480x, or 490 territory.

You believe the APU will use cutting edge technology that might not even release before the console itself does?
I don't know what I expected in this thread.

They dont but thats the risk of being an early adopter, now of course that said as u stated who the hell was expecting anything more than a ps4 slim

If you adopted early you got a good couple of years out of your investment and you have some insider knowledge to sell early and get some money back. It worked out buying at launch from my standpoint

I want that tent! (OK what's this tent business? )

By the way I think OP might have crossed a few wires but this amount of info will only lead to more people spilling the beans.

No one is saying this will be literally any of those chips. It will be custom APU anyway. No one is stopping Sony from taking whatever chip design into whatever nanometer count with whatever number of shader processors.

If this shit is real how do you think that the crowd at the E3 gonna react when Shu shows that the PS4K is a fact?

A.

B.

It´s E3, so unless they sell it exclusively though AT&T contracts, it´s gonna be

I'd expect to see a permanent price drop on the PS4 to $199 at E3 this year when the news comes out. People will still buy it in droves, while the early adopters trade up for the 4K. Sony (as a company, not just games) profits tremendously

It is my guess the PS4K will be Sony's UHD player, which coincidentally hasn't been announced just yet.

And lol I would need to buy a new 4k input capable receiver. At least if I wanted to keep my shit wired the way it is now.

New tv, new receiver, new ps4.

NOPE. Can't.

My goodness. I'm not thrilled about this. I hope TLG isn't one of the default 4K games.

Gah. I really do not want Sony to destroy their goodwill and seviide their fanbase. I don't think that's good for the industry. It's too soon for a new gen. My concern is that this is what it would be like if all 3DS games that game our after N3DS launched had similar problems as Hyrule Warriors Legends does.

I also think this is far too early in the 4ak adoption market for this to be happening. I'm concerned devs will primarily shoot for 4K and the majority of PS4 owners will have the older model and get left in the dust.

(It sounds like this is all happening this year, right?)

Exactly, I'm afraid a lot of people are going to have to get on-board with this new reality.

This is great news if true, no more 5 - 6 year wait on new hardware.

Every 3 years is perfect.

Now,game budget will increase even faster this is a very bad news for devs.

These threads are impossible BTW. I don't have a solution, but they just move too quickly. By the time you complete a post, the thread will have grown a few pages. They're not really discussions but collections of reactions. That's fine, but most posts get overlooked because it's just impossible to follow the thread.

So when is the ETA for this thing to arrive in-stores? Will it be this holiday (Nov. 2016)? or we talking a 2017 release? Don't see Sony showing this at E3 if it does not come out till 2017.

Based on responses I've seen:

C. all of the above?

Probably more B than A from the audience - but I'm pretty sure the internet-reaction will be mixed.

I don't know what I expected in this thread.

Are there any concrete facts, evidence on this console right now? I am simply guessing based on TDP, heat, price, and performance requirements to hit 4k. It may be far fetched but several months ago a mid cycle console refresh was a joke but here we are.

360 and PS3 were using cutting edge technology when they came out.

You believe an iteration of a console which didn't have cutting edge technology will launch (also both of those consoles sold with loss which I believe Sony don't want to do anymore) with cutting edge technology?

But it's not supposed to hit 4K, it's supposed to upscale the game and output it in 4K.

I have a noob question guys, about 4k and upscaling... Why the fuck is this necessary ??? It's a 2x ratio.. There is nothing to upscale it should just look good. Especially at the same screen size..

Keep in mind that in order to max out your $499 PS4K, you'd likely have to buy a $800 4K TV to go with it.

If it were to be labled as just that a 4k version for 4k Tvs then yeah consumers wouldn't think of these two versions that differently. It could work out for them, but the fear remains.
Good explanations are needed for this and half assing support for the older owners can not be tolerated.

I don't know, but I'm having trouble believing a big chunk of PS4 owners are actively wanting to plop hundreds more for a marginally better product. People ready to drop that kind of cash on incrementally upgrading their hardware are already in the PC space. I have a gaming rig and I'm certainly not doing incremental upgrades on my consoles.

I don't know myself. I bet there are lots of people like me with plenty money to spend on games but don't like playing on a pc. Why do you think any one with money must play pc games? It's completely false. Not to mention that a new ps4 would just become the standard for all people buying one going forward and might even persuade some sitting on the fence.

Fucking disrespect! Shame on you Sony! There are almost 40 millions owners out in the wild, so please hold this fucking shit to release in 4 years at least.

I just can't believe there are people who support this nonsense.

If you're this on board with incremental upgrades every 3 years, you should've been on the PC since last decade.

Except I never implied that? If you're on board with spending that much money that often on gaming hardware, you should be on PC, plain and simple. You're gonna have a lot more control and a much better time with the games you play. It's not about having the money vs. not having the money. A few hundred every couple of years doesn't really wreck most people's budgets. The real point of contention is the COMBINATION of factors. Not just "spend money every 3 years", but "spend money every 3 years" + "get an incremental upgrade out of it" + "with the purpose of playing the latest and greatest in terms of tech". That's the kind of experience for PC gaming and you get much better bang for your buck anyway.

If this is true, the PS4 platform is starting to quack like a PC and walk like a PC, but it isn't a PC. For the benefit of the consumer, if the console quacking like PC and walking like one sounds really THAT interesting to you, you really should just go for a PC. Maybe you have the willingness and budget for one and never even knew it.
