Final Fantasy XV: Platinum Demo Thread

We really need to ask just what the hell the deal is with Luminous honestly. There are games that look quite a bit better and perform quite a bit better.

Man I hope over the next 6 months they really add quite a few layers of polish. They need to some AA in there and to improve the framerate.......and at this point I'm not sure how much more they can do on either front.

Square should NOT have put out this demo.

-Janky combat
-Bad camera during combat
-Low Framerate especially during warping
-Poor IQ as you'll see by lack of AF and AA

I don't agree.

Combat feels good to me. Maybe because I played Duscae demo, which was janky and unintuitive. This combat feels nice and simple. Assign weapons, attack monsters, switch between weapons mid-attack at the drop of a hat. Simple and fun.

Graphically, yeah, the framerate is a little rough (the roughness is overstated by you and everyone) but, I have to say, visually speaking, the demo looks very nice. Probably the best lighting I've seen in a console game, and the areas have a lot of detail and look really great.

I don't get why people are being so negative? It's a pretty enjoyable little demo. What was everyone expecting? This isn't even in the game itself.

My impression is that this demo plays like a Kingdom Hearts level. It's fun and shows off the world and graphics. There's no reason Sqaure shouldn't have released it as is. People make it seem like the demo is complete trash. It's not.

Just accept it. It's OK.

No. It ran fine on my playthrough. Rare drops.

Dude, just admit it.
I'm super hyped for this game and I can admit that the framerate wasn't so hot. I've played Duscae a ton and that ran like shit. This runs better but it still needs a lot of work.

Nothing to admit. Just telling about my experience.

Yes, that's how it works.

Did you use magic, walk into blocks/balls?

All of those completely stutter the game. And I'm not one to notice stuttering in games where it's minor like MK U.

And that is independent of the slowdowns during running, attacking etc.

I'm thinking recently that that's the issue with it right now.

We see the guys doing all this incredible stuff in the trailers and it looks fun. It isn't in practice because we don't have any of those tools.

This is to say nothing of his you'll manipulate your bros, if a gambit system is even still in the game.
Watching this video (leave the captions on) makes it seem like there's a lot more going on mechanically. It certainly looks a lot more interesting but I'm not sure if that will translate well into play. I haven't played Duscae so I can't say for sure myself. Depends on how it controls.

Yeah, it's weird how hyperbolic people are being about the performance. It was a little rough, but then again, I went through playing Bloodborne and other games that have worse framerates. I was expecting worse.

I'm hearing bad stuff about the combat.

Dunno how much that worries me. We're basically getting combat based off of E3 2013 with the Kingdom Hearts leads developing it. I think it'll be really fun all things considered.

Combat never drew me into Versus anyway. I get a little worried and then I see reasons why I actually like the game.

So the demo is less than 1 hour long??? I thought it would be longer :( I'm watching some streams and THE MUSIC OH MY GOD THE MUSIC!!

FFXV has secure soundtrack of the year already. No contest.

To be honest my frame rate was pretty decent on PS4 as well. It did drop, mostly in Altissia when moving the camera around fast, and one heavy drop when fighting enemies near the toys when the camera clipped through Noctis (guessing it was heavy alphas at the time). But nowhere near as bad as Duscae. Was perfectly playable.

They've still got 6 months to polish it anyway.

they need to get out the PS4K asap

Have the console warriors already disserted the differences in performance between PS4 v Xbox One?

At work and can't really access my Xbone atm :P

I sure do hope there is a PS4K version. Because I'm not sure how much more they can do with this one, and it might truly have the worst IQ on current gen. I don't think its native 1080p and appears to have no AA either. That is rouuuuuuugh

In comparison with Kingdom Hearts, I feel like they try to do something similar in which they go for combat that is flashy to watch without being too difficult to execute. Which is finr because neither is a pure action game. But in Kingdom Hearts things feel a lot more responsive and the feedback from attacks feels better than how the gameplay felt in this demo.

Only thing I didn't like was the jump. That needs to be improved upon. I loved the boss fight. The kid stuff was good enough for just messing around and getting the hang of the controls.

Honestly, I don't think the frame rate will get any better by final release. I think this is what we should expect it to be until they release some patches later on. I was fine with the frame rate in this demo. Aliasing needs a ton of help but besides that I could handle it.

I've just beaten the demo, and honestly...I'm not really feeling the combat.

I just don't really feel in control of a whole lot in terms of the movement or attack timing, and trying to aerial attack the giant just makes me feel like this fly hovering around something while Noctis freely wails.

Demo isn't too long but I explored as much as I can. Will give it another run through tomorrow and see what is different. I thought it was a cute demo. I stuck with the name carbuncle because I like to stay official. You guys?

Combat feels a little bit better than shitty ass Duscae but it's still not ideal. Why not copy the exact lock-on from Kingdom Hearts? Also, HOLD to defend is another piece of crap that irritates me a LOT, I mean, sure, let me just stop my combo and hold down a button for a second so I don't get knocked on my face every fucking time.

Short but sweet demo, will play again tomorrow.

Solid 60 FPS, seems like at least 4K textures, but I did do some custom soldering on my PS4 to boost performance.

I'm wondering, if these complaints about the combat remain after the actual game launches, how much of a pass the game will get in the face of that. Personally, I found the battle at the end to be riveting, but I can understand the complaints and can see how it could get tedious (throwing spells was a pain in the ass and something Infamous does way better, though). But since it's huge and since its Final Fantasy and since it has some interesting narrative potential, I'm wondering if the combat complaints will take a backseat to bigger and better things come review and GAF impression time. Witcher 3 has shit combat, but a lot of people love the game. Hmm

Is this better than Duscae? That was some horrible demo at all levels.

In some ways yes, in others no. While playing Duscae you feel like you are playing at least a part of a (very rough) game.

This feels like a straight up tech demo, but combat is improved as well as performance. Though there are still issues.

Duscae to me felt really unpolished and bland. This demo, personally, feels more together, like it is a better representation of a game. There is music through the demo, and it's really great. This feels like a demo of a Kingdom Hearts level. The combat is also more refined from Duscae.

It's very simple, but there are nice little touches, and the landscapes are great to look at.

The nomral attack seems to be missing the added directional inputs from 2.0 version of duscae? Also manual dodge feels a bit off for me....
