Final Fantasy XV: Platinum Demo Thread

Beat the monster twice. I'm really liking it, and found the soundtrack and atmosphere to be phenomenal!

Air warping is fantastic practice attacking in the air it's so satisfying moving in and out , pretty cool tech demo they came up with. I'm surprised some thought this was a prologue.

That wallpaper though!

This scene would look so much nicer without the piss filter.

Wow, this demo is trash, especially compared to Episode Duscae, what the hell Square Enix? If hadn't actually played Episode Duscae this demo would have put me off FF XV so bad.

I'm wondering, if these complaints about the combat remain after the actual game launches, how much of a pass the game will get in the face of that. Personally, I found the battle at the end to be riveting, but I can understand the complaints and can see how it could get tedious (throwing spells was a pain in the ass and something Infamous does way better, though). But since it's huge and since its Final Fantasy and since it has some interesting narrative potential, I'm wondering if the combat complaints will take a backseat to bigger and better things come review and GAF impression time. Witcher 3 has shit combat, but a lot of people love the game. Hmm

I found the combat to be pretty good. It fixed a lot of issues I had with Duscae. And with the kid, well, it's expected to be simpler.

The battle at the end with adult Noct was great. Showed me that there is a ton of potential for complexity.

I don't get it, is it true that this demo isn't actually taken from the main game?
As in, it's basically a stand-alone addon/tech-demo?

Why are they wasting their time with this?! Is it to promote their FFXV anime?

After having played Duscae and this demo, I have two words to explain FFXV as I have experienced it: ambitious and rough. And sometimes the roughness kinda outweighs the ambition.

I dunno, this demo charmed my pants right off. I can see where some might be disappointed with it but running around that giant house and using that squeaky hammer warmed my heart right up.

I think Tabata said he always wanted to show off the cities and he now did in this demo. Maybe just a little glimpse of what to expect. It honestly is not that bad of a demo. It is possible the dream sequence will be mentioned in FFXV, yes.

Playing this really makes me want to see the PC version. It's pretty on PS4 but a bit jaggy and framey. I want to see it smooth as silk at 1080p60fps.

I don't understand why Tabata is do insistent on Button holding for attack and defend. Everytime Noctis attacks, it attacks and then resets the animation. Then the infinite combo looks stupid. And now you could just prrss and hold the button, Noctis will automatically run straight to the enemy and chain lock attack it.

JUST WHY????

There are two hidden weapons at the final boss that are pretty cool, other than that it seemed pretty cool outside of some visual bugs and slowdown when interacting with physics based stuff.

Not sure what those crystals were for, especially the hidden ones.

FoV is still a bit weird though

What are those weapons? I don't know if I missed any.

Posted this another thread but didn't get a reply so I'll try my luck here, does the Demo's title screen song have a name and is it uploaded yet anywhere? It's so beautiful, like I'm seriously enthralled with it.

Shuriken and Shield

They are up the tower, I don't know how to get to them properly but I warped above the ledge and just dropped down onto them taking damage. You'd think there would be a warp point there or you could jump up the warp point that is below the ledge but you can't.

Are you talking about kid Noctis ?

Thanks, I missed them!

Also, what is the circular bar for the Phantom Sword used for? I press L1 and R1 and nothing happens.

And wow I'm only now discovering the angry comments, do you guys have no soul ?
Spent an hour moving around in the demo, felt like I was 10 again.

The demo had FFX, FFXIV, FFXIII, KH feels, my heart is warm and the smile on my face isn't fading any time soon, but it's super sad seeing all those condescending and angry comments.

I agree completely.
It fucks the combat so much that it's easily the worst part of the game.

I think they got the combat right with adult Noct. It feels good. It took me a second to get used to the jump and dodge commands, because I'm used to Bloodborne. But once you can warp, and dodge and get in there for an attack, it feels really satisfying.

If they could update Duscae with this combat I wouldn't mind trying it again.

I'm sure it will be on youtube soon.

This was probably the highlight of the demo for me. This environment, at night, in the rain. I'm a crocodile thingamie.

Looks more like a Brightness and Contrast difference.

shadows are harder more jagged on XB1. PS4 has softer more natural feeling shadows, check the grass between and around his legs as well as the ground in front of him (the small rock) you can see more gradual shading on PS4, on XB1 its just blocky shadows.

So for the attack button I just wanna know, can you button mash it? Cause I do not wanna hold the attack button to hit the boss. I hated that part in duscae

My guess? They took a full sized environment from the game and made you tiny for the demo. You were never meant to see the textures that close so they're lower rez textures.

At least that's the most plausible explanation for that one.

That's a character model and objects/textures made specifically for a 30 min demo on tech that is 5 months from being complete.

If you want to argue this demo shouldn't have been put out yet, I might agree. But it's not indicative of the final product performance wise imo.

Yea I just can't stand it. Noctis' control sometimes feels out of my hand..

Those objects are meant to be tiny and viewed at a distance in the regular game. But since you are shrunk down you get real up and close with em, looks bad.

This game........ needs to be good.
I feel like I'm missing some nuance that is going unexplained. If the combat is just like this throughout the whole game... I'm not sure if I'm going to enjoy it. And I have the CE preordered ffs.

I'm still going to try and stay optimistic because no doubt there will be more cohesion to the full game, but these 2 demos have not really done it many favors imo.

I don't really care about whether it showed anything to get excited about the main game--which it did, to me, I might add--I simply found it fun.

There's so much media about the game, if someone wants to find out more, then they have a chance. There's literally an anime, a movie, tons of trailers, videos, everything.
You're correct that if someone really wants to know more, theres tons of media for the game. The problem is that there are a lot of people who will either watch or play this demo once, decide its bad and move on. That's it. They won't give the game a chance beyond that and as someone incredibly hyped for this game, I find that frustrating.

Even with Duscae, as early as it was, there were still moments where all the elements came together just right. Fighting a group of enemies with party members in this huge world with beautiful animations, amazing music, and the sun setting in the background. Walking into the Chocobo ranch and having your party members separate off to do their own thing, Discovering a dungeon and fighting a bunch of goblins to get a really cool summon at the end. The new trailers today do this as well and ,imo, show perfectly what the game will be like. These insane fights with good graphics. Traveling with your party in cars, boats, chocobos, etc. Stopping at a rest point, playing mini games, etc.

I know Tabata has said that what we were getting today was a tech demo but if they were gonna do that, I think they should have just provided something like the TGS 2014 demo. At least in that, you have your party, can see day night cycles, weather, and you get to test the battle system.

I really just want other people to be excited and enjoy it as well because I feel this game might be something really special. Maybe I'm being dramatic (there was a huge event and all) but impressions are extremely important and it sucks when people miss out on anything great because the first one was so shitty.
