Final Fantasy XV: Platinum Demo Thread

i love how Carbuncle communicates via text message on the phone and even sends emoji ^__^

Should be a second screen app for your phone/PS app.

Fixed for you.

Square's official screens look nothing like the actual game, they look way worse for some reason.
The only REALLY bad jaggies are the jaggies on hair, which seems to be a side effect of the technique they're using for hair.

And its been happening for a long while now with the screenshots, I wonder why.

Chocobo one before the first gameplay of it was the worse.

That was the most disappointing thing I have ever played from FF and that includes FF XIII.

Jesus Christ what happened.

Awful gameplay, aliasing up the whazoo and appears to be running at sub-1080p at least based of all the smear going on in the background.

Jesus H Christ.... gawd damn.

Hell no I am not buying.

Yeah, I just tried the demo and was prepared for the worst but it's honestly not that bad.

I thought the demo was fine, took me about 30 mins to finish. I thought the game looked great aside from a bit of frame drops during the last fight. Otherwise I am hyped for this game, got the deluxe pre-ordered so now all I have to do is wait....

Who the fuck chose the name Carbuncle and do they realize how many people they are traumatizing via google image search?

After being impressed with what I saw during the Uncovered presentation this demo kinda took the wind out of those sails.

While the music was good that was about all I liked about it. What's there can barely be called a game. Literally hold circle for combat the whole time and that's about it. Combat and movement felt clunky.

I wasn't expecting much but I was hoping they would give you a bit more to play around with as far as combat. Doesn't exactly leave me with good expectations for FFXV.

Alright, impressions on the Demo:

Performance: I'm not 100% sure what people are talking about framerate wise. Now I do think that the framerate needs some work but I think it's vastly superior to the first demo. I recently started doing the 2.0 stuff because I was hyped for this event and I really ended up enjoying it but I have a fresh perspective on it and I really think the new demo feels smoother.

Combat: Combat definitely feels more fluid to me, but because I finished 2.0 content last week for the first demo, I found myself contantly pressing square to attack instead of circle and trying to lock on with R1 instead of L1. It really made the battle experience very poor but that could be because of my recent time with 2.0 and not a reflection on the combat as a whole. I plan to fight the Iron Giant a bunch of times more so I can get used to the current button layout.

Music: Always fantastic

Graphics: I think that the game look gorgeous but it's definitely not the best looking game I have ever seen. As always, the art direction is wonderful but I can definitely see they made some sacrifices. Overall though it's the prettiest FF game I've ever seen and I think I can live with that.

Overall feelings: Feels a lot more like KH than the last demo did which isn't necessarily a bad thing. I want to spend more time with it just because I think the combat really soured it for me and I am not yet sure if it's because I am not used to the button layout or I just don't like the combat. Overall, I am optimistic but have some reservations. Need more time for my thoughts to cook in the oven give my final impressions.

oh that makes more sense, google just gave me lots of info of the infection

had no idea, never knew the english word for until right now

Lol, guessing whoever originally named him was just looking for red gemstone names and wasn't aware of the skin condition. Or they have a sick sense of humor =P

General thoughts:

- The only reason anyone should think about playing this demo is if they've never tried the combat mechanics in FFXV before and want to get a feel for them.
- I'm pretty happy with the combat. Very simple and straightforward and there are very few frills. Once you figure out how to avoid damage effectively against tougher enemies, the whole thing comes together.
- If this demo is a good representation of the rest of the game, don't buy a new console expecting this game to be some kind of benchmark for visuals or performance. In hindsight Square-Enix saying this demo is designed to showcase the game's visuals is probably the dumbest thing I've heard all year.
- I really hope the content/exploration in the final game is nothing like anything we saw in this demo. I don't need games to try to be big, bold, and cinematic only to make most of the actual explorable areas really compact and bland. (Obviously Duscae suggests this won't be the case, but I haven't played Duscae and don't intend to ever buy Type-0.)*
- I also really hope they don't ever include any game sequence that has you run around collecting crystals like we do here.
- Stepping on panels to activate weather/time of day/random effects was really dumb. Why not just have cars scattered about the large room for us to try out? Why not have the time of day progress relatively quickly at all times while playing, and weather effects come in and out randomly?
- If I didn't know anything about this game apart from what I'd seen in this demo, I'd avoid this game like the plague.

*Disclaimer: I found a couple of the hidden weapons, and I understand that there are more in the final area. But these kinds of things weren't especially well-leveraged across the entire demo.

Im not really feeling this demo. If its meant to show off the combat style and what not then I dont think Ill be buying the full game on day one.. I dont like kingdom hearts and this demo feels very button mashy. Ill watch a let's play and/or wait for a price drop.

Tip: generally, you should hold down the attack and dodge buttons instead of mashing them.

On my second playthrough I noticed collecting the orbs is actually kinda nice as well. The area where you're tiny has surprisingly many hidden little areas (in which you find more orbs and enemies and some plates).
Assuming there will be a similar incentive to explore the even bigger areas in the real game. Would be neat to have something like this in a big FF game.

Yeah that sounds like collectathon busy work like shard collecting in Dragon Age: Inquisition. A few secret areas for treasure chests or hidden sidequests or secret monster is fine, collecting shiny shit scattered all over the map? No thanks.

What. The. Hell. Was. That? I understand that this may not even be in the game and if it is, it'll be a very minor segment of it, but what the hell does this demo tell players on the fence about the final experience? I'm likely going to buy this based on the strength of the first demo, but when I finished this one and it asked if I wanted to order FFXV I said "hell no." Absolute April Fools troll on Square's part. It has to be.

Surprised at the reactions here. I haven't played yet myself - heading to the airport right now - but I'll reserve judgment until I get my hands on it.

I'm not really feeling the combat here (I loved Duscae 2.0's combat after I got used to it). Here, it feels slow and it's difficult to time dodges especially when in mid-swing. I didn't try the phantom dodge thing mentioned so maybe that was the problem, but I really hope it's a case similar to KHII where the combat is terrible at the beginning and amazing at the end.

Edit: Also, I find it weird that O is attack and X is jump, when in the english versions of KH it's the opposite. Maybe they'll change it again in the final english version.
